We ran a great webinar with Broadbean today to show recruiters what they need to stop doing with their job adverts. We want to help our community become innovative with their adverts, place more candidates, engage more clients, and become more successful in 2017.
We talked about:
What words stop people applying for jobs and what to replace them with
Do "Rock Stars" and "Geniuses" help or hinder job applications?
When to advertise jobs
Whether to mention your clients' names or not
Which apps can help us with our job adverts
Size matters - but which size are we aiming for?
Is Christmas Day a great day to post a job?
If you want more advice on creating innovative adverts, get in touch at roi@barclayjones.com for a free consultation.
As usual, we asked a few questions to find out how our recruiter community is feeling about 2016, and the results were revealing!
55% aren't measuring ROI, and 17% didn't really know what they should be measuring!
54% feel like change isn't being managed well within their business
86% say the systems they're buying are benefitting their recruiters... but only 50% have any objectives or goals for their recruitment tech? This smacks of a lack of relevant expectations.
If you missed the webinar, catch up in the slideshare - and note there's a video attached to watch too.

Disruptive changes to business models will have a profound
impact on the employment landscape over the coming
years. Many of the major drivers of transformation currently
affecting global industries are expected to have a significant
impact on jobs, ranging from significant job creation to job
displacement, and from heightened labour productivity to
widening skills gaps. In many industries and countries, the
most in-demand occupations or specialties did not exist
10 or even five years ago, and the pace of change is set
to accelerate.

HR and IT managers that want to achieve a successful digital transformation must make fundamental changes. Whether businesses are looking to increase agility, improve customer service, streamline processes or drive innovation, change needs to start in the workplace. This is because the performance of individual employees is decisive in a world increasingly characterized by knowledge work. However, employee performance can only improve when the work environment is adapted and optimized to their respective roles and requirements. Equipping workers with new mobile devices or collaboration tools is not a solution in and of itself.
Based on PACs view of Digital Workplace as a holistic design and service concept, this presentation offers a 360° view on critical issues related to workplace modernization. It gives insight into current trends, investment plans and challenges relating to digital workplace initiatives.

Covid19 has created one hell of a distraction in the recruitment industry (if ever that was an understatement!)
I've been talking about the colouring-on department (aka Marketing) for some years now, and was delighted when Simon from Members Only invited me to speak to his community of recruitment leaders and marketers.
Green shoots are starting to show, though it remains a challenging time.
Recruitment Leaders: You need to make marketing drive your sales pipelines, but either have no marketer, have a furloughed marketer or perhaps a marketer working from home.
Marketers: Whether you have been furloughed, or are working from home, you’ll need to stay skilled and add value to a distracted sales team in your recruitment business. Perhaps you've been made redundant - now more than ever, your skills need to be your focus.
I talked about my ideas to help you focus on the immediate future of your recruitment business, and recruitment marketing job – and how marketing can add genuine value to sales pipelines.
Are you a:
Recruitment Leader who needs marketing tactics to help boost your pipelines as the economy begins to restart?
Recruitment Marketer who has either been furloughed or are working from home and needs tactics to turbo boost sales pipelines either now, or when you get back to work?
Recruitment Marketer who has been made redundant and need to up-skill and improve your value to new employers?
It’s time to focus on positive and effective methods to help you make a difference to your '3Cs': Candidates, Clients, and Colleagues.
Oh, and you need to remain focused on what marketing can and should achieve – the 4th 'C' - CASH!
Key takeaways:
How can sales and marketing work together and be smart in this turbulent time – especially when you are all geographically disconnected and working from home?
How, as a furloughed (or even “redundant” marketer) can you stay focused on your profession and how it can genuinely add value to a distracted / stressed recruitment sector?
Recruitment Marketers! Are you struggling to get to grips with email marketing? We've created this infographic to give you 9 quick tips to supercharge your email campaigns to increase lead conversion and improve client/candidate relationships.
"You need to hire a marketer, increase your budget, get more social, implement more processes, spend cash!"
Sound familiar? Lately it feels like recruitment marketers and leaders are bombarded with lots of new things they must do to improve. We're seeing a lot of this with our clients – and they’re so busy trying to improve that they don’t see all the things holding them back.
Tracey and Lisa are known for their expertise in recruitment PR, digital marketing and social recruiting. They’re delivering this webinar to show you the 5 things you can STOP doing in 2017 to become more successful and profitable.
In thirty minutes we'll reveal how you can get back more time, be happier and increase lead generation (and profit!) by focusing on what really works and have a truly successful 2017!

Everyone is quick to reveal what you should be doing more of (spending, implementing, rolling out!) but we know that’s not always the key to improvement.
Often it’s the things you need to STOP doing that can have a big effect. We see this a lot with our clients – they’re so busy trying to improve that they don’t see all the things holding them back.
Get ready to discover all the recruitment tech mistakes we want you to STOP making ready for 2017.

I do often come across Marketing departments who are disconnected from Sales – disconnected enough to warrant a (healthy) scepticism. This is often demonstrated by graphs showing community sizes rather than fees generated from marketing activities.
Why? I often find that this is due to a complete lack of understanding (by Sales) of what Marketing is there for. Marketing are often not expected to generate leads, and if they do, Sales sometimes don’t stop cold calling long enough to convert them, or feedback to Marketing on improving the lead criteria.

Deloitte Predictions for the Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT) sectors is in its fifteenth year. I’ve attended some of the big events they hold... which in recent times have been migrated to video.
As a #GirlGeek and previously an IT Director, I’ve watched with interest the different technologies which we have morphed from and to.
Brick-sized mobiles with antenna you could dry your undies on, LinkedIn being banned in my first recruitment firm as it was not as good as the CRM (!), Blackberries being Purple with a dial on the side (and desirable!)
In the fifteenth edition of the Predictions, one element really caught my eye – Women in Technology.

I was delighted to be invited by APSCo to talk at their IT Forum in London.
They asked me to talk to their members about “How to Attract IT Tech Talent without Being Talented in IT”.
Now being a recruitment advocate, an ex-IT Director, a proud geek – and on the whole pretty bossy, I was delighted to be given such a great topic. Recruitment and tech is something I am really passionate about.

Google+ - that formidable bit of kit that you feel a little weird about?
The kit that often leaves me feeling “all the gear no idea?” when I look at some recruiters and their approach to it.
Perhaps (you’re normal) and can’t quite put your finger on what it will do for you?
Not sure if it should be part of your “mix”?
I attended InboundUK last year and the massively influential (LinkedIn Influencer) Gary Vaynerchuk was a keynote speaker.
Someone in the audience had the audacity ask about Google+.
Time slowed down…
I held my breath…
I’d been waiting for someone to talk “sense” about it…
Yes, it’s clever, beautifully built (in my humble view), stands on everyone’s shoulders, is linked to every system (it seems) out there…
But a recruiting system? Really? Do recruiters, who on the whole really haven’t got to grips with LinkedIn, Twitter and their own internal CRM/ATS, really have time for ANOTHER social system…?
And Gary said…
I’m waiting for Google+ to become important
I flippin’ fell off of my chair.
Oh, go on then!
It would be remiss of me to totally blank Google+ - I do use it myself – I really like it.
It has some “cool” features. It’s a very “connected” system. Yes, it’s more “social” than LinkedIn, but in the real world the average candidate and clients is more “G+” (informal) than “LinkedIn” (formal) in terms of their normal behaviour…
So why is it so good?
6 Cool Features of Google+ and 4 more Hidden Features:
Cool Features
1. Circles
2. Communities
3. Photos
4. Hangouts
5. Events
6. Local
Hidden Features
1. Embedded Posts
2. Formatting Posts

Go on, have a look at Google+. You will be impressed with what you can do and achieve!

Lisa has worked with many recruiters (yes, she's been about bit!) and she's been lucky enough to work with some pretty inspiring recruitment business owners and leaders. The time that she spends with recruiters really inspires her. But she often sees many wasted opportunities for staffing firms to be better.
She wants to share her thoughts on what she would do if she owned a recruitment agency, based upon the recruitment projects she has delivered and what she feels is the future of the recruitment industry.
This Slidedeck will review:
1) How to stop your recruiters turning into hairdressers and simply renting a seat in your office
2) What a social media strategy really is
3) Data, analytics, CRM - all hot topics for recruitment leaders
4) How to engage outside of office hours (when did recruitment start to finish at 5:30?)
5) How to work with hiring managers and not against them
...and other areas she has worked with clients to improve.

Lisa Jones of Barclay Jones ran a webinar in partnership with Bond International Software.
Twitter has been around since 2006, but many recruiters just don’t see the value. Have you taken the plunge and jumped in to using this social media platform? Can it help you find the right candidates, interact with clients, and truly assist you day to day? Can it help you spy? Can it generate leads? And can it be a total waste of time and drive your sales manager nuts with supposedly zero ROI? Well the answer is clearly yes and Lisa can show you how.
Lisa Team 4Lisa is a real expert when it comes to Twitter for recruitment and loves to let recruiters know her tricks of the trade. She has written loads of blogs on Twitter to help recruiters get real value from it.

I ran a webinar for recruiters in November 2014, reviewing some ideas around social media and social recruiting strategy for 2015.
I could have talked all about this (and I often do!). Instead I threw some ideas out there to help recruiters focus on real goals, strategies and tactics. Thanks APSCo for your support on this webinar.
