Fiction: Predicting
 Preview the front and back co-
vers, illustrations, and chapter
title before reading.
 Stop to predict during reading.
Predict what is likely to happen
next based on clues from the
text or illustrations.
 Use what you know (from text
and prior knowledge).
 Continue to make logical predic-
tions based on clues from the
text.
Fiction: Questioning
 Ask questions that are based on
the text (that is, the answers are
in the text).
 Ask questions that are based on
the central idea of the reading.
 Ask some detail-oriented ques-
tions.
 Ask questions based on element
of fiction (character, setting,
conflict, plot, theme, etc..)
 Ask some inferential questions
(that is, questions that are not
directly answered in the text).
