11. Circulation Desk As you enter the Library, you will see the Circulation / Information desk to your left. Stop here for library card registration, check in or return books, or check out items that your instructor may have placed on reserve for your use. Regular hours are 8 am – 10 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 am – 5 pm Friday, and 11 am - 3 pm 4 Saturdays each Spring and Fall semesters.

12. Bestsellers Next to the Circulation / Information Desk you will find our newest Bestsellers and Leased books. Most of the time, only books from the current year are kept at this location. The Leased books are periodically returned to the bookseller, while others, once they have been on the shelf for a while, are then shelved with the rest of the library books.

13. Catalog Computers Although you may search for books, movies, and music from any computer in the library, these two computers are reserved just for that purpose.

14. Library Internet and Email Computers These are the computers reserved for internet and email use, as well as general research. There is no time restriction in using them; all you need to do is sign up for one at the clipboard at the Circulation / Information Desk.

15. Reference Section In this area you will find materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, medical and scientific resources, and many other reference materials. Reference materials may not be checked out, but may be used (or photocopied) in the Library.

16. Book Collection This is near the beginning of our book collection. Our collection has more than 39,000 volumes, with specialized holdings in art, interior design, nursing, photography, and pottery. Books are loaned out for 3 weeks; overdue fines are $.10 per day, per book, after the 3 weeks are up.

18. Fiction Collection Adjacent to our nonfiction books, we also have 2 ranges of fiction novels for reports or just for fun.

19. Film & Music Collection The Library has more than 5,000 videos (DVDs and videocassettes), CDs, audiotapes, and other audiovisual formats. Although certain educational materials are restricted for classroom use by instructors, the rest of the collection may be loaned out to students for 3 days, with a limit of 2 items. Overdue fines for these items are $.50 per day, per item.

20. The Periodicals Section The Library subscribes to more than 150 magazines and journals in print form (you can find thousands more in the library databases). Titles range from scholarly journals ( American Journal of Nursing , Radiologic Clinics of North America … ) to popular magazines ( Ebony , Consumer Reports , People, Sports Illustrated )

23. LRC Computer Lab & Writing Lab The LRC has a computer lab with special software loaded specifically for RCC classes. In addition, there are some computers with Windows Vista, Windows XP, Office 2007 and Office 2003. There are also 2 flatbed scanners.

25. LRC Computer Lab & Writing Lab The Writing Lab is a separate room located adjacent to the LRC Computer Lab. It is equipped with 10 Windows Vista computers, and is staffed varying hours 4 days per week by RCC English instructors. Any RCC student (not just ones taking an English class) may come by to get help with their papers, including help with citations. Plus, it’s FREE!

26. Print Release Station This is one of two print release stations. When you print in the Library, you enter a name and password (anything you want to – it’s just made up by you). Then, the things you print are sent to this computer where you put in your password to print your document. Payment methods are coins, dollar bills, or printing cards. Each semester, curriculum students are given $3 worth of free printing. (Black and white prints are $.05 and color prints are $.10)

27. Photocopier If you need to make copies at the library, you may do so at our photocopier. Copies are $.10 each, and the machine accepts either coins or dollar bills.

28. Newspapers The library subscribes to 10 daily and weekly newspapers. These publications are local and national ones.

29. Book and Magazine Sale The Library has a continuous book and magazine sale, with book prices ranging from $.10 - $2.00, and magazines selling for $.10 per issue.

34. Research by Course Listed here are 28 RCC courses for which the Instructional Services Librarian has tailored information for students taking the courses. For each course you can get information about finding articles, websites, ebooks, and more. It’s a great “jumping off” point if you are enrolled in any of these courses and a tremendous time-saver.

35. Library Quicklinks The Library Quicklinks are meant to put you in touch with the most commonly used web links for students at RCC. Here you will find links for Ask-A-Librarian, Citation Style Guides, eCashier, the FASFA, and more, Library announcements will often be located above or below the Library Quicklinks box in the white areas.

36. Find Books, movies, and more By selecting this option under the Library Quicklinks, you can search RCC Library’s catalog. After you select this option, your screen look like the following…

37. Searching iLink As you can see, you can do a simple search for words or phrases, author, title, subject, series, or periodical title. Or, you can select to do a Power Search to include more limiters. Make certain that your library is listed as the default library to search.

38. Results On your next screen, you will view your results list. You will need the Dewey Decimal call number to locate your book (in example #2, the number is 778.93 All. If you wanted to place a hold on #5, the one that is checked out, you would click on PLACE HOLD and enter your library card number on the next screen. You will be notified when the book comes in. You may also request books from 46 other community colleges if we do not have what you need on the shelf. There are suggestions for narrowing your search which appear on the right side of your screen,

39. Renewing Boooks So long as a book is not yet overdue, you can also go into the My Account section to renew your books online wile saving yourself a special trip to the library.

40. Credo Reference (Enter off-campus password in < Library Card Number > field) Online reference collection featuring full-text content from hundreds of reference books covering a broad range of subjects. It’s a search engine like Google, but instead of searching the entire Internet, your results come from a comprehensive library of trusted reference sources without advertisements, clutter, or irrelevant hits.

41. NCLIVE Searchable, electronic collections of popular magazine, newspaper, and scholarly journal articles, electronic books, historical materials, maps, and much more - covering a wide range of topics.

42. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center An electronic database that provides a complete, one-stop source of information on social issues; includes viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

43. Literature Resource Center Provides access to &quot;biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline; covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,500 of the most-studied authors.”

Loislaw Offers a wide range of legal content and supporting materials, including: up-to-date cases, statutes, rules and regulations, and other primary law for all 50 states and federal jurisdictions; extensive public records for individuals and corporations; and “Law Links” for locating web-based legal resources. Note: Username and Password required from library staff both on and off campus. It is highly recommended that you review the “Expert Search Tips” section before beginning your research.

45. CINAHL Plus with Full Text Comprehensive nursing & allied health research database, providing full text for more than 620 journals and full text for 218 books/monographs; includes searchable Cited References, Research Instruments, and Evidence-Based Care Sheets.

46. ProQuest Nursing Journals Includes some full text and full images of over 280 nursing and allied health journals; subject coverage includes sports medicine, public health, nutrition, alternative therapies, wellness and fitness programs, and other health related topics.
