The latest version of Android, Nougat (v7.x), was released in late 2016, and offers access to raw GNSS measurements. Google demonstrated functionality to obtain Pseudoranges, Dopplers and Carrier Phase from a phone or tablet last September at the Institute of Navigation’s conference.
This seminar will explain the current API, hardware limitations and possible future advantages of this exciting new development. We will discuss data collection, raw measurements and demo processing example in Matlab and Python.

GRASS GIS 7: your reliable geospatial number cruncher
GRASS GIS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) looks back to the longest development history in the FOSS4G community. Having been available for 30 years, a lot of innovation has been put into the new GRASS GIS 7 release. After six years of development it offers a lot of new functionality, e.g. enhanced vector network analysis, voxel processing, a completely new engine for massive time series management, an animation tool for raster and vector map time series, a new graphic image classification tool, a "map swiper" for interactive maps comparison, and major improvements for massive data analysis (see also http://grass.osgeo.org/grass7/). The development was driven by the rapidly increasing demand for robust and modern free analysis tools, especially in terms of massive spatial data processing and processing on high-performance computing systems. With respect to GRASS GIS 6.4 more than 10,000 source code changes have since been made.

GeoServer and the Java toolkit GeoTools comprise one of OSGeo’s fastest moving mapping ecosystems. In addition to this core we will cover java-stack developments in JTS, GeoWebCache and ImageIO-Ext.
First up is “State of GeoServer” reviewing the new and noteworthy features introduced in the past year. Our six month release cycle sees GeoServer 2.5 and 2.6 being released this year. These releases bring together exciting new features: WCS 2.0 and WCS 2.0 Earth Observation profile, batch importer, and a fresh implementation of GetFeatureInfo.
Switching to technical for a GeoTools update. A passion for performance sees improvements in PNG and JPEG encoding, rendering from PostGIS and experimental JDK work. This presentation provides a review of new features, api changes and community modules. We have simplified the core FeatureCollection interface, introduced partial 3D support, structured grid coverages, multiple grid coverages and extended JTS Geometry with Curves.
Data formats support continues to grow with the latest GeoPackage, native NetCDF support and a new shapefile and wfs client implementation. Database users have table and index management methods to look forward to. Extensions have seen a lot of activity with WMS client improvements, vector grids, and a transform extension for dynamic feature collection processing.

Graph neural networks (GNN) is a tool that brings great predictive power to graph machine learning tasks such as link prediction and node classification. However, GNN architectures are typically very compute heavy and as such are not feasible to run at massive scale. In this talk, we will leverage the graph sampling features of the Neo4j Graph Data Science (GDS) library as well as the inductive power of GNNs to bring GNNs to scale. We will also show how the GDS Python Client can, with great performance, be used to integrate the GDS workflow with other GNN Python libraries.

Arkance Systems is the one of major CAx, BIM, GIS provider in Europe, with solutions based mainly on Autodesk technologies. Arkance Systems is a part of big international group - Groupe Monnoyeur. Our GIS division is delivering GIS solutions mostly to private enterprises, utilizing mainly own Arkance Systems technology - twiGIS. Besides usual utility-GIS (water, wastewater, heat, telco), we are focusing our GIS solutions on facility management of large public and industrial areas like airports, exhibition grounds, manufacturing plants, power plants, etc. Our main goal is to provide tools and solutions for reliable data management lifecycle and especially for effective data distribution and accessibility for the end users.
As most of the GIS data (especially in utilities and facility management) are describing buildings and infrastructure coming from the construction activities, the nature of the data inputs is changing rapidly in these days: the usual CAD documentation is being replaced with BIM models. Therefore we have adjusted our tools for smooth BIM – GIS connection with these goals:
Keep BIM model live through the whole building lifecycle (e.g. not just export the data and let the model die)
Let BIM people use their tools in the most vanilla way (BIM modeler like Revit, CDE like BIM 360)
Let the GIS users use the data from CAD, GIS, and BIM in the same way, with no difference to where the data originated
So far, we have built a BIM connector to our twiGIS doing the entire job. The connector is based on Safe Software’s FME with heavy use of the new Revit Reader. The flexibility of the workspace definition enables us to adjust the BIM-GIS mapping to any flavor of any of the sides.

However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.
