From a Developer's perspective you will learn how to make your first OpenStack contribution, from your creating your account to identifying low hanging fruits, or even trying to push a new project to the ecosystem.
From the Operator's perspective, we have not yet reached the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Operators are still not yet accepted as equal members of the OpenStack community. We will go over some of the history, current issues, what is considered a contribution to OpenStack, and how this should, and can change.How Rough Is Your Runway?
Using Trimble TX9 terrestrial laser scanner my surveying team scanned an active runway in Western Australia to a tolerance spec of 3mm. The teams were working a live site providing aircraft right of way meant the teams had to setup and takedown scanner and targets to yield to any aircraft movements around the site and airspace. Surveyors took a ground based approach over drone UAS to maintain tighter vertical control than can be achieved using drone capture. We were tasked with looking for deviations, rutting and areas to derive Pavement Condition Index (PCI) criteria for their asset.
Once the data was captured surveying teams utilized TopoDot to assemble the raw scans into a consolidated model. They then attempted to use the pavement roughness algorithms in the software against the close to 3.4b points of classified data but had to split the datasets into halves and quads in order for the processing runs to complete. The Bentley product has an inbuilt “Road condition tool” which reports on pavement roughness characteristics but has preset expected pavement widths, roads not runway widths, set in the software. We explained to our surveyors that the algorithms might run faster in another product. It allowed us to explore FME as a point cloud processing workflow using feature tables functionality to quickly generate the statistics required for reporting deliverables using the entire dataset in one process.
Aoyagi Lab Colloquium - 2015-06-01
The project aims to use Unreal Engine 4 to render human activity data in real time by streaming joint angle data into the engine and applying it to an animated skeletal mesh. Currently, a skeleton can be controlled in C++ and animation applied via Blueprints. A network socket was implemented but library functions are not visible in the editor. Future work includes resolving the network library, creating a server, defining file structure, and rendering body occlusion.

eventnet asynchronous recursive event processing
EventNet is a neural network architecture that can efficiently process asynchronous event streams from event cameras in real-time. It uses a temporal coding function to recursively update the network's state as new events arrive, avoiding redundant computation. Experimental results show it can perform tasks like target motion estimation and ego-motion estimation at rates over 1000 Hz using only the new event data. Compared to frame-based and PointNet approaches, EventNet significantly reduces computation time by recursively updating representations rather than reprocessing all prior events.

20191112 HAProxy conf 2019 - RTL journey to kubernetes with haproxy
Vincent Gallissot presented RTL's journey to migrating applications to Kubernetes with HAProxy. Their on-premise infrastructure became legacy, leading to a decision to migrate to the cloud. They deployed infrastructure as code inside each project's repository. Simple applications were migrated without downtime using HAProxy and observe layer7. More complex applications were migrated by replicating production traffic or migrating specific URLs only. Now they use an HAProxy Ingress Controller to deploy infinite projects with observability and without exceeding load balancer quotas.

Following another very successful conference in London in November 2014, Space Situational Awareness 2015 took place in Hyattsville, Maryland in May 2015, with over 60 SSA experts from all over the globe coming together to discuss the most pressing SSA challenges.
With increasing dependence on space-based services, the ability to protect space infrastructure has become essential to our society. Any shutdown of even a part of space infrastructures could have significant consequences for the well-functioning of economic activities and our citizens’ safety, and would impair the provision of emergency services.
However, space infrastructures are increasingly threatened by the risk of collision between spacecraft and more importantly, between spacecraft and space debris. As a matter of fact, space debris has become the most serious threat to the sustainability of certain space activities.
In order to mitigate the risk of collision it is necessary to identify and monitor satellites and space debris, catalogue their positions, and track their movements (trajectory) when a potential risk of collision has been identified, so that satellite operators can be alerted to move their satellites. This activity is known as space surveillance and tracking (SST), and is today mostly based on ground-based sensors such as telescopes and radars.
With a focus on solving the political issues but not ignoring the technical, Space Situational Awareness 2015 the leading gathering of dedicated SSA experts from the USA, Europe and beyond, to discuss and debate the business, political and technical challenges that lie ahead.

Towards Rapid Implementation of Adaptive Robotic Systems
Current automation design practice produces expensive one-of-a-kind installations where the system cannot be easily modified to
meet changing demands or advancements in technology. It is imperative that we design robot systems to be modular, portable and
easily re-configurable in order to reduce the design lead times and life cycle costs of providing automation alternatives.
The Unified Tele-robotics Architecture Program (UTAP) was developed under the sponsorship of the US Air Force Robotics and
Automation Center of Excellence. A goal of the program was to define and develop prototypes of commonly used software building
blocks for sensor guided real time embedded control of telerobotic devices. Standard building blocks and a non-proprietary
communication protocols would provide the Air Force and specifically the Logistic Centers with a support infrastructure designed to
rapidly and efficiently build and maintain mission critical automation systems.

Following another very successful conference in London in November 2014, Space Situational Awareness 2015 took place in Hyattsville, Maryland in May 2015, with over 60 SSA experts from all over the globe coming together to discuss the most pressing SSA challenges.
With increasing dependence on space-based services, the ability to protect space infrastructure has become essential to our society. Any shutdown of even a part of space infrastructures could have significant consequences for the well-functioning of economic activities and our citizens’ safety, and would impair the provision of emergency services.
However, space infrastructures are increasingly threatened by the risk of collision between spacecraft and more importantly, between spacecraft and space debris. As a matter of fact, space debris has become the most serious threat to the sustainability of certain space activities.
In order to mitigate the risk of collision it is necessary to identify and monitor satellites and space debris, catalogue their positions, and track their movements (trajectory) when a potential risk of collision has been identified, so that satellite operators can be alerted to move their satellites. This activity is known as space surveillance and tracking (SST), and is today mostly based on ground-based sensors such as telescopes and radars.
With a focus on solving the political issues but not ignoring the technical, Space Situational Awareness 2015 the leading gathering of dedicated SSA experts from the USA, Europe and beyond, to discuss and debate the business, political and technical challenges that lie ahead.

Automated surface defect detection using area scan camera
This document summarizes an automated surface defect detection system that uses an area scan camera. The system consists of three subsystems: 1) a mechanical subsystem with a conveyor belt and rejection mechanism; 2) an electrical subsystem with motors, sensors, microcontroller and computer; and 3) a software subsystem with programs to control detection and rejection. The area scan camera captures images that are analyzed by a MATLAB program to detect defects based on light intensity. The system was tested on 1000 plates and successfully rejected all 700 defective plates while accepting the 300 non-defective plates.

MUVES 3 has a service-oriented architecture built on Java and deployed using the NetBeans IDE. Testing MUVES 3 on Amazon EC2 through Elastic Grid's cloud management platform allows scaling to hundreds of computers for integration testing while avoiding security issues of a public cloud. Further steps include expanding metrics collection and using NetBeans as a client for cloud visualization.

The robot was able to navigate autonomously indoors and create a map of its environment in real-time using an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) based SLAM algorithm. The EKF estimates both the robot's state and the locations of environmental features observed by the laser range finder based on odometry from the wheel encoders and laser range measurements to features. The project demonstrated successful indoor navigation and mapping of a simple route using this SLAM system.

Analytics with Spark
