This document provides a rationale for teaching PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) in primary school. It argues that the PDHPE syllabus instills healthy values, attitudes, skills and knowledge in children and encourages holistic healthy living. It also states that developing knowledge of PDHPE values through the syllabus will help children make good choices when faced with unhealthy societal pressures. Finally, it claims that achieving the syllabus outcomes will equip children with the tools to make informed lifestyle choices and that PDHPE is taught together with other subjects to reinforce an integrated approach to healthy living.
