There are three types of rational functions. Type 1 has a horizontal asymptote of y=0. The vertical asymptote is where the bottom equals 0. Type 2 has the same power in the numerator and denominator, so the horizontal asymptote equals a number other than zero. Type 3 has a higher power in the numerator than the denominator. To solve any type, you must find the vertical and horizontal asymptotes, x-intercepts, y-intercepts, domain and range, and create a table and graph.
