‘U’ stands for UNIVERSAL ( can be viewed by all
age groups). ‘U’ films should be set within a
positive moral framework and should offer
reassuring counterbalances to any
violence, threat or horror.
PG stands for Parental Guidance. This means a
film is suitable for general viewing, but some
scenes may be unsuitable for younger children.
A PG film should not disturb a child aged around
eight or older. Parents should consider whether
the content might upset younger or more
sensitive children
The 12 certificate is just for videos, DVDs
and Blu-rays. 12A is for films at the cinema
only. 12A means that anyone aged 12 or
over can go and see the film
unaccompanied. The A stands for
'accompanied' and 'advisory'. Children
younger than 12 may see the film if they
are accompanied by an adult (e.g.
someone over the age of 18), who must
watch the film with them.
No-one under the age of 15 is allowed
to see a 15 film at the cinema or
buy/rent a ‘15’ rated DVD. 15 rated
works are not suitable for children
under 15 years of age.
Films rated 18 are for adults. No-one under the
age of 18 is allowed to see an 18 film at the
cinema or buy/rent an 18 rated DVD. No 18
rated works are suitable for children.
Gender:
On the cover of ‘Think like a man’ all the women
seem to be standing in a posture of higher
position and the one with the power in the
relationship. The women also seem to be backed
up against the men, to show that they are also
equal to the guy, or dragging and pulling him
in, almost reeling him in. The men on the other
hand, almost scared of their other half's, look like
as if they’re either equals or lower than their
partners, making/giving the women more
control. The men’s posture also show that the
women have higher authority as they seem to be
almost backing down and letting the women be
in power. This all appeals to the female audience
as this all what women what and look for in a
relationship most of the time, this makes it easier
and more enjoyable for them to watch these
type of movies.
Clothing:
Women: Their clothes are really feminine type clothes, showing the femininity of a
woman but at the same time they’re standing in a way to show they can be feminine but
strong at the same time. This appeals to the female audience as it shows confidence and
beauty at the same time, which is something most women would want.
Men: The men’s clothes are quite smart and casual, to show the manly side to them, and
like the women they may be looking like they’re giving the women power about at the
same time they look like your typical man, suit, tie, strong etc. This appeals to the target
audience because for women, want a guy who looks smart, dresses well and listen to
her, in the poster the women seem to be taking control, and the men let them and dress
well.
The colours used for
the background of
the cover, are quite
bright, light
colours, this shows
femininity, they’re
not too strong or too
harsh, it shows off
elegancy, a women’s
touch.
What is a rom-com?
A rom-com is a hybrid genre
mixed between romance
and comedy, these type of
films would attract females
aged mid teens and
over, these type of films
attract this specific type of
audience as women can
relate to them, men don’t
necessarily relate to it as it
isn’t aimed at them, there
wouldn’t really be anything
interesting for them.
Gender:
On the front cover of the
poster, you can see the two
main characters of
film, both characters are
big, strong, well-built males.
Posture of the males shows
that they are in power, this
appeals to the target
audience because most of
generally men fantasise
about having big bulging
muscles, big guns etc. this
all shows in the poster
therefore dragging the male
audience in.
Props: you can see that
they’re holding guns, this
also shows that he is in
power and it also a sign of
masculinity. This also
appeals to men as men
genuinely like to be in
power.
Clothing:
The clothing of the males really show off their masculinity, by
wearing a tight vest and shirt. The accessories they’re wearing
are small black shades, and a gun this really shows off the male
side to them and making them looking more in power, also
bringing attention to the target audience, because if men can
relate to the characters then they’re more likely to watch the
film.
Background:
In the background , it’s full of fire and smoke, this shows off
the danger they’re in, it also shows that they’re tough, the way
they are standing shows that they are willing to take anything
that comes their way. Which is how most men try show
themselves off, like they also prepared for danger, and aren’t
afraid.

  • 1. ‘U’ stands for UNIVERSAL ( can be viewed by all age groups). ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
  • 2. PG stands for Parental Guidance. This means a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for younger children. A PG film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. Parents should consider whether the content might upset younger or more sensitive children
  • 3. The 12 certificate is just for videos, DVDs and Blu-rays. 12A is for films at the cinema only. 12A means that anyone aged 12 or over can go and see the film unaccompanied. The A stands for 'accompanied' and 'advisory'. Children younger than 12 may see the film if they are accompanied by an adult (e.g. someone over the age of 18), who must watch the film with them.
  • 4. No-one under the age of 15 is allowed to see a 15 film at the cinema or buy/rent a ‘15’ rated DVD. 15 rated works are not suitable for children under 15 years of age.

  • 7. Gender: On the cover of ‘Think like a man’ all the women seem to be standing in a posture of higher position and the one with the power in the relationship. The women also seem to be backed up against the men, to show that they are also equal to the guy, or dragging and pulling him in, almost reeling him in. The men on the other hand, almost scared of their other half's, look like as if they’re either equals or lower than their partners, making/giving the women more control. The men’s posture also show that the women have higher authority as they seem to be almost backing down and letting the women be in power. This all appeals to the female audience as this all what women what and look for in a relationship most of the time, this makes it easier and more enjoyable for them to watch these type of movies. Clothing: Women: Their clothes are really feminine type clothes, showing the femininity of a woman but at the same time they’re standing in a way to show they can be feminine but strong at the same time. This appeals to the female audience as it shows confidence and beauty at the same time, which is something most women would want. Men: The men’s clothes are quite smart and casual, to show the manly side to them, and like the women they may be looking like they’re giving the women power about at the same time they look like your typical man, suit, tie, strong etc. This appeals to the target audience because for women, want a guy who looks smart, dresses well and listen to her, in the poster the women seem to be taking control, and the men let them and dress well. The colours used for the background of the cover, are quite bright, light colours, this shows femininity, they’re not too strong or too harsh, it shows off elegancy, a women’s touch. What is a rom-com? A rom-com is a hybrid genre mixed between romance and comedy, these type of films would attract females aged mid teens and over, these type of films attract this specific type of audience as women can relate to them, men don’t necessarily relate to it as it isn’t aimed at them, there wouldn’t really be anything interesting for them.
  • 8. Gender: On the front cover of the poster, you can see the two main characters of film, both characters are big, strong, well-built males. Posture of the males shows that they are in power, this appeals to the target audience because most of generally men fantasise about having big bulging muscles, big guns etc. this all shows in the poster therefore dragging the male audience in. Props: you can see that they’re holding guns, this also shows that he is in power and it also a sign of masculinity. This also appeals to men as men genuinely like to be in power. Clothing: The clothing of the males really show off their masculinity, by wearing a tight vest and shirt. The accessories they’re wearing are small black shades, and a gun this really shows off the male side to them and making them looking more in power, also bringing attention to the target audience, because if men can relate to the characters then they’re more likely to watch the film. Background: In the background , it’s full of fire and smoke, this shows off the danger they’re in, it also shows that they’re tough, the way they are standing shows that they are willing to take anything that comes their way. Which is how most men try show themselves off, like they also prepared for danger, and aren’t afraid.
