- 2. The filming industry is: An entertainment industries involved in producing and distributing movies. The film industry or motion picture industry comprises the technological and commercial institutions of film making, i.e., film production companies, film studios, cinematography, film production, screenwriting, pre-production, post production, film festivals, distribution; and actors, film directors and other film crew personnel. The major business center of film making is in the United States as well as India, Nigeria and Hong Kong. But now in the modern day film industry in Europe the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, and Germany are the countries that lead movie production. Distinct from the centers are the locations where movies are filmed. Because of labor and infrastructure costs, many films are produced in countries other than the one in which the company which pays for the film is located. For example, many U.S. and Indian movies are filmed in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand or in Eastern European countries What I done was added what the filming industry is and the different companies within this sector.
- 3. Size, shape and structure of the film industry in the UK: There are around 400 'permanent' (i.e. registered) companies in the film industry. Of the companies existing today, we can say approximately 43% are production, 13% are distribution and the remaining 44% are exhibition companies. In 2006, the UK film industry contributed £4.3 billion to the UK economy, up from £3.1 billion in 2004. 516 films were released across the UK in 2007, a 58% increase over the decade. UK films, including co-productions, accounted for 21% of releases and 29% of the market by value.
- 4. Some companies within this sector: Walt Disney Company- It is the largest media conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Disney was founded on October 16, 1923, by Walt and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. It’s revenue is 42.278 billion. It’s companies divisions and subsidiaries The Walt Disney Company operates as five primary units and segments: The Walt Disney Studios, which includes the company's film, recording label, and theatrical divisions; Parks and Resorts, featuring the company's theme parks, cruise line, and other travel-related assets; Disney Consumer Products, which produces toys, clothing, and other merchandising based upon Disney-owned properties; Media Networks, which includes the company's television properties; and Disney Interactive, which includes Disney's Internet, mobile, social media, virtual worlds, and computer games operations. Its main entertainment features and holdings include Walt Disney Studios, Disney Music Group, Disney Theatrical Group, Disney-ABC Television Group, Radio Disney, ESPN Inc., Disney Interactive Media Group, Disney Consumer Products, Disney India Ltd., The Muppets Studio, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Entertainment, UTV Software Communications, and Lucasfilm. Its resorts and diversified holdings include Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, Euro Disney S.C.A., Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Disney Vacation Club and Disney Cruise Line.

Some companies within this sector: Universal studios/pictures- is an American motion picture studio, owned by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal, and is one of the six major movie studios. Its production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal City, California. Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York City. It was founded at April 30, 1912 as Universal Film and Manufacturing Company by by Carl Laemmle, Mark Dintenfass, Charles Baumann, Adam Kessel, Pat Powers, William Swanson, David Horsley, and Jules Brulatour. The parent of Universal studios is NBC universal and subsidiaries Universal Animation Studios, Focus Features, Illumination Entertainment.
- 6. Some companies within this sector: Warner bros Entertainment inc.- It was founded at 1918. The founders were Albert Warner, Harry Warner, Sam Warner, Jack Warner. It’s an American producer of film, television and music entertainment. Its also subsidiary with Time Warner which is an multinational media corporation. It was the world’s second largest media and entertainment conglomerate in terms of revenue (behind the Walt Disney Company), The Time Warner also has divisions in HBO, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Warner Bros. and Time Inc.
- 7. Advantages of these companies having other media interests Advantages of having other media interests, platforms and synergy is that these other media interests can maximise their profit as they have more on to show for their branding logo which goes out and makes it more known and more popular internationally around the world so these companies have more of a chance of becoming successful in the big media industry. I added this so it will show the advantages and I would add a disadvantage but there’s not one.
