However, such protections don’t exist outside the United States. This session explores the various ways that visual resource professionals have addressed copyright compliance issues when making images available for educational and scholarly purposes outside of the United States. Using various case studies, the session will address the sharing of image resources between and among different institutions, determining when and how images can be made available to the general public, creating image-based research collaborations across national boundaries, and the international aspects of publishing with images.

I have always combined my interest in technology with my work as a teacher, thereby developing my own digital literacy to the extent that it has been a very influential factor in my professional development and teaching beliefs. Whilst working in London in 2007, I began teaching IT skills classes to pre-masters students and at the same time I became the eLearning coordinator for a large chain of language schools with over 40 international locations. I was responsible for maintaining an online self-access centre and virtual learning environment with over 10,000 registered users. I created my own consultancy which offered technology training specifically for language teachers. Since moving to Japan in 2011, I have continued to utilise educational technologies in my work. My story may not be particularly unusual, and therefore in presenting a reflexive narrative of my experience I hope to open up a discussion with other practitioners who have similarly developed their digital literacy in order to improve their teaching and career prospects. I will also discuss my views on EFL teacher digital literacy in general, as well as my experience of student digital literacy. This presentation takes the form of a narrative inquiry (Barkhuizen, 2013), based on data collected through the process of reflexive practice (Edge, 2011). I encourage others to utilise narratives as a way of improving their practice.

The different grids at the University of Warwick are examples for a new trend of developing specific services for different user groups. The architects focused in their design on physical flexibility, newest information technology and contemporary design.
Increasingly, as higher education develops online degree programs, campuses need to create library and informational literacy tools available for the student who never comes to campus in person. This session addresses the need to provide the same level of library support to online students as is provided to on-campus students.
Facilitating student-led teaching and content creation through technology: Us...RichardM_Walker
User-led design reflects a paradigm shift in pedagogic practice, re-envisioning the role of students as producers rather than consumers of learning. Implicit in this design approach is an acknowledgement that students have the skills and capability to engage in collaborative knowledge creation activities and to develop their learning as producers of content.
Through a presentation of case examples, we report on how user-led principles have been applied to the design of blended learning courses at the University of York (United Kingdom), with learning technology employed to support active learning opportunities for our students. The blended courses each incorporated activities encouraging participants to develop their own learning and teaching resources, engaging them in the mastery of key skills and concepts. We present an engagement model for active learning derived from the case examples, and use this as a stimulus for a broader discussion on effective design approaches to support student-led teaching and content creation activities.
We then go on to discuss the instructional responsibilities associated with the successful delivery of student-led activities within blended courses. Research tells us that instructional support for online learning requires differing strategies to facilitate effective group learning and participant-led activities and can lead to instructors assuming different roles in their online interactions with students. Reflecting on the case studies, we discuss common challenges that instructors may face in the design of student-led activities and present strategies for the effective delivery of student-led teaching and content creation activities, based on a five-stage blended delivery model that has been used to guide academic staff at the University of York.

This presentation reflects on the approach that we are taking at the University of York to help teaching staff consider how the affordances of learning technologies may be applied to support active learning opportunities for students within programme design. We consider how learning technologies may support student work across various modes of engagement, ranging from interleaved practice (formative assessment) to student-led teaching and content creation.
AVATAR is a two year European Multilateral project under the Lifelong learning programme 2007-2013, Sub programme Comenius aimed at teaching secondary school teacher to use virtual worlds in education.
