YouthBuild 2013 (U.S. Dept of Labor) Presenation#CareerGravity
The U.S. Department of Labor holds training events each year to help train its grantees in various skills. I've been invited to speak on social media on several occasions, including the YouthBuild 2013 event in Boston. I presented What is #CareerGravity; an introduction to the new landscape for job seeking and talent management. Just as social media has fundamentally changed online marketing, it has also transformed the job market. This presentation provides a high level overview of exactly what those transformations are and how job seekers can leverage them.
Is social media just a fad, or a pervasive and powerful tool that will forever change the way companies connect and engage with their key audiences? This presentation was delivered to a women's business executives club in Houston.
Using the internet to make government a bit less boringDave Briggs
This document discusses how governments can use social media and technology to become less boring and more transparent and collaborative. It argues that governments need to embrace change by using tools like blogs, social networks, and collaborative authoring to better communicate with the public and across departments. It maintains that the real value of social media is how it encourages openness, transparency, cooperation and knowledge sharing to help governments transform into learning organizations.
The document discusses the future of the web. It notes that the future has not been built yet and there is no agreement on what it should be. It calls on readers to help create the future by contributing images and resolving disagreements among authorities regarding the direction of the future web.

Most women’s affinity groups measure their activity. How many events they’ve run, how many people attended each event, and the like. What’s often missing is a vision of what will be different because of the group’s impact and how to measure it. Frankly, I'm not surprised. That's exactly what I did when I ran the women's group at Adobe Systems. I founded that group in 2008, and while I'm proud of our accomplishments, I didn't measure our impact. I honestly don't think I knew how to. At the time, calculating the return on investment seemed like a holy grail.
I've since realized how important it is to measure the impact of an affinity group and how to go about doing so. In this talk, I will provide practical tips for identifying the vision, gaining support, defining the strategy for achieving it, and measuring the impact.
iMedia Brand Summit - Sept 2010
With the mobile Internet now ubiquitous and the digital living room becoming a reality, consumers have real-time access to compelling content from virtually anywhere. Almost every second of every day, they are bombarded with advertising, social media, and branded content. This access overload has created a more discerning consumer with a shorter attention span. So while brands have more opportunities to reach their target audiences, it is increasingly difficult for these companies to genuinely break through and make a meaningful impact.
In this new installment of Hope Beyond the Hype, Jeff Rosenblum, founding partner of Questus, interviews industry leaders to gain insight into the changing attitudes of consumers and the emerging tools that marketers can leverage to build relationships in an age of constant connectivity. Experts from the marketing and media worlds will address the increasing fragmentation of the media ecosystem and provide actionable advice for cutting through the clutter to capture attention and build loyalty.
The document discusses navigating the social web and discusses several key points:
1. It discusses the evolution of the web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 and the increasing importance of social connections and contributions.
2. It addresses concepts like social media literacy, managing your digital footprint, and using social media to create, contribute and collaborate rather than just consume content.
3. The main message is that social media is becoming increasingly important so people need to get serious about understanding how to effectively use social networks and manage their online presence and influence.

Social Media: Keeping Up With Trends - Targeting Boomers & Beyond Erica Campbell Byrum
With the ever-changing climate of social media, it’s hard to know what’s “in” and what will help grow your business. Social media and new technology holds tremendous opportunities for companies looking to drive new business, retain customers, create engagement and increase revenue. Whether you are completely clueless, somewhat familiar, or advanced, Erica Campbell Byrum, Director of Social Media for Homes.com and ForRent.com will discuss how to leverage social media and become part of the consumer dialogue.
This presentation was given on 1/21/2014 by Erica Campbell Byrum of After55.com at the Marketing Summit for Professionals Targeting Boomers & Beyond in Virginia Beach, VA.
The document summarizes discussions from a convening organized by Monitor Institute about the future of philanthropy over the next decade. Key points discussed included the need for philanthropy to adapt to changing times, coordinate better across organizations, and leverage networks and partnerships to have a greater impact. Participants shared ideas like creating a "knowledge kaleidoscope" to share learning and using games and competitions to generate innovative ideas.
Social signals are now an important part of search engine algorithms according to Google, but many companies still fail at SEO because of organizational barriers between departments like SEO, social media, PR, and IT. To succeed, companies need to remove these barriers by restructuring teams to be more focused on campaigns and consumer value rather than traditional departmental structures. Presenting measurable revenue figures from SEO and social media campaigns can help convince CEOs to make these organizational changes.
The document discusses using technology to track engagement and build relationships between organizations and constituents. It presents an engagement pyramid with different levels from followers to leaders. It also provides examples of how one organization used targeted outreach and cultivation to acquire 1800 new supporters for their climate change work and move many to higher levels of engagement. Breakout groups are asked to discuss strategies for engaging constituents at different levels of the pyramid.

7 Secrets to Union-Management Success with Teams
Once what I want differs from what you want, we are in conflict. Conflict will naturally increase when shifting from a supervisor-to-employee model to a team model. This presentation describes a whole system, top to bottom and side to side process to implement teams in a union environment. The "from me to we" shift is continuous process that requires a different type of renewal annually. With commitment to this approach, everyone from top management and union officials down to frontline supervisors and employees can mutually benefit.

The document discusses the future of marketing and how it is being shaped by social media and new technologies. Key points include that the foundation for tomorrow's marketing is emerging today, the pace of change is accelerating, and relationships need to be better aligned with business goals. Interactivity, experiences, and storytelling will be increasingly important. Marketers must listen to customers, engage with them through social networks and content sharing, and adapt quickly. Content creation and sharing will continue growing in importance across many new media platforms.
Designing for behavior change can be looked at through many lenses. As the implementers of interventions, products and services designed to modify the decisions and behaviors of others, we can adopt a “Doing to,” “Working with,” or “Working for” mentality. The people on the receiving end of our interventions can perceive this frame of reference, and this can have a great impact on the initiation, engagement and outcomes of designs we put in place.
While the current popular discourse revolves around fixing or capitalizing upon our limited cognitive, emotional and motivational resources through varying levels of authority and control, humans are self-organizing systems who may need little more than support of their autonomy and growth potential to enact tremendous change in their lives. With this in mind, delivering interventions that preserve human agency and foster authentic functioning can seem like a radical (yet welcomed) approach.
But how might we do this? What kinds of systems can be implemented to achieve individual and group level change while preserving a sense of volitional engagement? Games and Gameful Design (but not “Gamification”) offer a promising approach to creating the conditions whereby people are willing, active participants in initiating and sustaining meaningful change efforts.
In this talk, I’ll articulate theory and evidence-based methods and models for evaluating and implementing the ways by which games and play shape our psychological processes and influence behavior and subjective well-being.
This document discusses ways to empower change agents and influence organizations. It suggests that having influence through informal networks is more important than formal hierarchy. Only 3% of people in an organization typically influence 85% of others. These "superconnectors" are well-connected and go-to people for advice. The document also discusses the tension between conforming and rebelling to create change from within. It advocates for collective agency where people act together for change rather than top-down structures determining change. An example is given of a project empowering ambulance staff to collaboratively address issues like falls and mental health.
Engaging the Future of Talent in a Digital WorldQualtrics
Today, innovation and collaboration are essential for business. But with only 13% of the world’s workforce actively engaged in their work, driving innovation and collaboration forward requires that the world of work changes. In this talk, Jeremy explores how business leaders, HR advisors and others can engage the talents of their people to set up for the future of business and enable collaboration and innovation for sustainable growth at scale.
Social media allows people to craft virtual personas that differ from their real selves. Many users digitally alter photos or misrepresent biographical details to curate idealized online images. While some use this as a confidence boost, others engage in harmful behaviors like cyberbullying. Overall, social media emphasizes virtual connections over real-world relationships, so users should strive for a balance between their online and offline identities.

MCAwards BostonTweetUp Social Media Case StudyBostonTweetUp
This case study analyzed the impact of social media on MassChallenge's Awards Ceremony event. It found that the event generated a significant social media footprint over a week-long period. Key findings included that MassChallenge and its organizers were mentioned much more frequently than other words in tweets. The most retweeted photo came from a CEO about a keynote speaker's company. Analyzing influencers and reach without handles provided insights into long tail discussions. The study demonstrated how tools and a dedicated team are needed to properly capture, analyze, and interpret social media data from events.
Social media can be used effectively for social change by preparing infrastructure in advance, growing lists and communities online, and empowering supporters to spread messages virally. The It Gets Better project showed how a video posted in response to tragedy garnered over 25 million views and helped LGBT youth. However, social media is better for branding and relationships than standalone fundraising, and deeper engagement requires moving people beyond just liking or following online. Preparation and ongoing online community-building are key to crisis response and impact.

On Digital Transformation - 10 ObservationsMike Arauz
The ideas about technology that have become lenses and points of view I return to as I try to makes sense of how things are changing, and what can be done. This is a digital world, so none of this is etched in stone. But from what I’ve seen so far, these things seem to be true.
The document discusses strategies for pushing boundaries in an increasingly diverse landscape. It recommends understanding the context, behaving like a challenger brand, applying lean startup principles, collaborating with experts, solving problems for your audience, and finding opportunities where analog and digital intersect. Experts note that lean startup can be applied broadly and that collaboration is key to unlocking big ideas.
Do social media sites do more harm than benefit in the business world ReidStewart
More than one-fifth of U.S. jobs are posted on social media sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. While 98% of companies now use social media, it can present both opportunities and risks for businesses. On the positive side, social media allows free advertising and promotions, helps build relationships with customers, and provides a way to support communities. However, it also opens the door for cybercrime, public relations disasters from offensive posts, and lost productivity from excessive employee social media use on company time. With both risks and rewards, businesses must carefully manage their social media presence.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
