Early life French navigator, born in Brouage, Saintonge, on the bay of Biscay, in 1567 His father was a sea captain, and the boy was early skilled sailer and navigation Like his father before him, he served as a naval captain
Previous Experiences Champlain's first voyage was to Spain, with his uncle In 1603 Champlain made his first visit to North America Champlain's first real voyage, one to Spain
Explorations In 1603 he went on his first voyage to Canada, as  geographer on a fur-trading expedition. Champlain also discovered the lake named for him (Lake Champlain), on the border of northern  New   York  state and Vermont
Results his second trip to North  America. He was looking for a place where French people  could make a settlement On his third trip in 1608, Champlain found a settlement  along the St. Lawrence River that  is now the city of Quebec.
Conclution   He died from a stroke on Dec. 25, 1635. After a French-British peace treaty in 1632, Quebec was once again French, and Champlain returned as its governor (1633).
