Jacques Cartier was a French explorer born in 1494 in St. Malo, France who made two voyages of exploration to Canada and the New World. During his voyages, he discovered Canada, the St. Lawrence River, and the area of Quebec. He faced challenges including the deaths of 25 crew members and having to deal with murderers on his ship. Cartier made significant contributions through his explorations but later died in 1557 at an unknown location and from an unknown cause.
