Marco Polo was born in 1254 in Venice, Italy. He traveled extensively with his father and uncle through Asia, including along the Silk Road, where he was one of the first Europeans to visit. Marco Polo wrote about his travels in two books, becoming one of the first Westerners to document his experiences in China. He encountered difficulties along his journeys, including his mother's death, financial issues, and imprisonment in China.
