2. Question One:
This question was very important for me because it shows who I should target and from
the results, it is evident that most of my audiences are female which means I should target
them and provide audience pleasure by using features that attract them the most. For
example, less violence and more mystery attracts female audience more as they don’t like
blood or fighting but they like features that engage them with the film and makes them
think. I think the reason why majority is female is because females feel closer to the
victims which is the final girl and this is why they enjoy the film more as they can relate to
the characters more.
3. Question Two:
Majority answered this questionnaire were aged 15-17 automatically identifies my target
audience. This also shows that older people don’t like horror films as much as younger
people does which indicates that I must use techniques and features that are attracted to
the younger generation than the older generation.
4. Question Three:
This shows that majority of my audience like horror films which makes it even easier for
me to create my horror film opening sequence knowing that the audience are attracted
to horror films and would want to watch it. Unfortunately, only 2/10 said they don’t like
horror films due to being afraid or getting nightmares at night which is the whole point
of horror films. This is very useful because it shows I need to consider ways to appeal
the majority as well as the minority in order for my opening sequence to be successful.
5. Question Four:
With this question, the majority are interested in jump scares as 5/10 answered that. Then
the second most popular answers are blood/gore and spiritual dystopia, the least popular
answer is the antagonist. This indicates that my audiences are not interested in Binary
Oppositions but the Iconography of horror films and the effects that they create such as
jump scares.
6. Question Five:
This question was very important for me to ask because it shows what type of horror
genre would appeal to most audiences, if I want my opening sequence to be successful,
my audience must be able to identify the genre at the very beginning of the film. As you
can see most of my audience like Psychological which is why my main target audience is
females as they would prefer watching films based on using your mind to figure out
things.
7. Question Six:
Only seven people answered this question but by looking at the answers, it is obvious that
most my audience like watching horror films because they are exciting, it makes them think
and creates suspense/mystery. This shows that in order for my opening sequence to be
successful, it has to have some suspense and mystery to make the audience think what is
going to happen in the film which can be exciting because it shows what my audience enjoy
the most about horror films.
8. Question Seven:
The majority answered that a typical horror film should have an age certificate of 16-18 and
only one person said 19-21. From the results it shows my target audience would be young
teenagers aged 16-18 who would appeal to horror films. Also, I need to consider what
things would be appropriate for young teenagers to be shown in my opening sequence. For
example, less violence, appropriate language; less swearing and no or less sexual content
shown.
9. Question Eight:
Majority answered they would like to see murder in a horror film and minority said
suspense/mystery/tension/psychological elements. Despite of my target audience being
female who like less violence and murder shown by my audience pleasure research, this
questions shows that my audience would like to murder to happen in a horror film perhaps
because they would want to be scared and created tension in the film which is why they
want this feature in a typical horror film. For my opening sequence, I need to include some
hints to show my audience that a murder might take place in the film so that they keep
watching the film.
10. Question Nine:
By looking at the answers, I can tell that most of my audiences like horror films based on
spirits and ghosts and the minority likes possessions, exorcisms and serial killer. This
shows my opening sequence must have features showing the movie is related to either
ghosts or spirits. As I have received mixed answers, it means my opening sequence must
appeal to all my audience in order for it to be successful.
11. Question Ten:
This is the last question I asked which is a very important question related to my opening
sequence as it shows what my audience prefer it to be like. None of my audiences are
interested in seeing gore/blood or monster which means I should to use
blood/gore/monster to a certain degree. The majority answered they would like to see
the setting more in the opening sequence which means I must include the setting when
the titles appear because it would appeal to my audience; as it adds horrific and
terrifying elements to the opening sequence.
12. Overall, doing the questionnaire and analysing
it, has helped me to base my opening
sequence on the respondents’ views. It would
be helpful to gain a bigger audience because
it’s what the majority of viewers want to see.
