QUESTION 6 – TECHNOLOGY – WHAT HAVE
YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM
THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
Hardware :
Some of the hardware that I have used during this
course varies . Here are some examples of things
we used in the course.
• Apple Mac
• Camera
• (fuji finepix )
• SD card
• Strobe lights
• Key board
• Mouse
Apple Mac and commands
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory : 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
START UP DISK : Mac HD
This is the main bit of hardware that we have
used in our course its like the foundation that
allows me o complete my course work on. At first
I found it quite to use then after a while of using
all of the different software I got the hang of it
and now I find it much easier to use then a
windows computer because its just much quick
and easier to do the simple things such as save
JPEGS and you know were all of your files are
.This way they are so easy to access.
KEY BOARD + MOUSE
MOUSE : This is one of the most vital tools to control the
computer helping e to click, drag and scroll through
information I may need or to get to site or links that I may need
to copy on to my PowerPoint .
KEYBOARD : The keyboard allows me to type and then used my
mouse to select the things that I may have typed. The keyboard
allows me to write on things such as my article or cover and
select different fonts so that my work looks much nicer layout.
COMMANDS : These are short cuts which help me do some of the
things that allow me to get pictures on to power points etc or
zoom in and out.
Screen Shot: ctrl + Apple + 4
Zoom in: Apple +
Zoom out: Apple -
FUJI FINE PIX
Details :
35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 33-165mm 2.7" 230,000-Dot LCD
Monitor HD 1280 x 720 Video at 30fps ISO 100/200/400/800/1600/3200 SR
AUTO Mode
This is the camera I chose to take the pictures for my cover, contents age
and my article as its quite mobile and I can use it in loads of different
settings and wont be restricted to the studio and the white board back
drop . This way I didn’t have to do the tricky procedure of cutting out
my artists picture and placing it on top of a background. I think this
way it looked much more indie as well. When I used this the photos
would get saved to a SD card which I would put into the computer to
transfer to my files to be saved for when I needed them.
SD
Card
The SD card Is the memory card for my camera. It is
placed inside the camera and made so that when I
take my photos then the pictures will get saved to that
instead of the camera so if there's any problems with
the camera then the pictures wont be lost.
Once the pictures have been taken then I get a
memory stick which I out the memory card into it.
After that once I’ve put it Into the computer I find the
file and import the photos onto the computer in order
to use them.
SOFTWARE
Software is the sites and programs we use to create our course work
and do our evaluations questions on there are many different software
programs designed for different things such as editing photos and
making videos or making professional music videos to go along with an
audio track. All this and much more is available to do these software
programs. Software wise the main ones that I have used are Photoshop
, InDesign and Word to create my article and contents page along with
my cover then I used other software devises such as Powerpoint to do
my questions and I used to blog to to do some of my questions as well.
PHOTOSHOP• This is the main piece of
software that we use in making
our magazines because its got
all of the necessary tools to
create all of the individual
sections of the magazine .
• These are some of the things
we do on Photoshop:
• Once we have an A2 size of
paper up on the screen we can
import pictures to it by dragging
the JPEG of the desktop on the
Photoshop page and then we
can edit the size by dragging
the corners and sides of the
picture to were we want it.
Being careful you don’t stretch
the picture out of focus by
holding down SHIFT whilst
using the mouse to stretch the
picture so as to make sure you
keep the picture even on all
sides
PHOTOSHOP
• Other things that you can use in photo shop are the effects which you can put onto
the pictures to let them give of different vibes like vintage , modern or maybe classy.
The steps for this are on the next slide.
• We can also do other things such as edit someone's facial features to clean up the
little imperfections such as spots or scars ect.
• to do this we have to click on the plaster symbol and hover over you models face
and click on the spots and scars. Photo shop then blurs it so that it looks much
cleaner.
Spot healing tool
Image adjustment
Photoshop
• Opening a document
To open a new document you have open photo
shop then click FILE then go down to NEW then
once you have done that make sure you select the
right paper size such as if you going to make an A2
cover page then the best option to pick would be
an international paper.
• You can then put pictures onto
your page then by dragging
JPEGSs from your desktop
onto the page
INDESIGN
InDesign is software which allows you to put text
onto previous things you may have created of
other software or on to a standard JPEG. I feel
this software is a bit more complicated to
compared to the other software programs that we
used . However this is the one I have used least
so I am not really used to it but I still got on fine
doing some of the simpler stuff which all we
needed to do to get our writing for out article on to
the JPEG.
INDESIGN
Opening a new document :
On InDesign its pretty similar to the other software programs that we use in
our course work . First you open up in design and click on the word
DOCUMENT in the create new section then once you’ve done that on the
pop up click on letter and select A3 for an article sized page. Then on
Orientation click on the landscape thumbnail on the right.
INDESIGN
Inserting a picture :
• Once you have opened a document
go to FILE then go down to PLACE
and then pic a picture out of your files
and it should be on your page then
you have to fit it to the box guide lines
around the outside of the A3 page so
that it looks right when you export out
of INDESIGN as a JPEG .
Inserting writing
• When inserting writing the first thing
you have to do is create a text box
and make sure it stretches all over
the whole space which you want
your writing to be in. Then because
we are making a article we have to
insert columns into our text box by
clicking on the text box then going
up to the top right of the screen and
by the column symbol there is the
quantity of columns you want which
you should change to what you
want and what looks write on your
magazine. Once you have done
that then copy and paste your
articles writing from word into those
columns and then adjust the writing
to fit into the column's as well as
possible .
WORD
Word software is the programme that we
use less frequently compared to
Photoshop and InDesign because its
very limited to what you can do on there
so we don’t use it as much. The only
thing we really did on word in our
course work is write up are article which
is very important in its self however does
not require other things such as images
ect. Word is quite easy to use because
its not as intricate and I've used it for
along time.
WORD
Creating a new document
on word is much similar then on an software for starters as soon as you
open word the default layout for a new page is A2 however if you need to
change it , it is a simple as clicking on file going down to NEW then
choosing a page layout suited to your work
Writing
To write on word is the most
simple task as, as soon as you
click on the page it gives you
the option to write on it .
However it you wish to create a
text box you have to go to the
top of the page click INSERT
then go across to the
TEXTBOX SYMBOL and insert
one into any place on the
page.
WORD
Saving a document
• First step to make sure that
your work is saved and that
you wont lose it when you
close down word is to go to
FILE
• Once you have done that you
should click on SAVE AS to
create a file to keep your
document in this then allows
you to when your at a point in
your work were you feel the
saved file needs to be updated
you can just click on the save
icon once .
