Question 4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Panasonic DV or HD DV cameras While filming my music video, I was able and managed to use both these cameras, they were both straight forward and easy to use, though I think if given the chance I would have tried to ensure I used a HD camera for all of the filming as it was much straight forward and easier to use as the filming was saved onto a memory card which you could then just place into the computer and upload the clips from there. If i were to have used a HD camera throughout the filming the quality of my video would have also been consistent as the shots shot with the Panasonic DV camera appear to be slightly grainy whereas the HD ones are far more clearer, thus looking professional.
Nikon D60 DSLR cameras This camera enabled me to shoot professional looking photographs for my digi-pack and advertisement, again after last years work I also found these easy to use, so this saved me a lot of time as I didn’t have to figure out how to work the cameras. I think that if I would have chosen to take out the professional lighting kits my pictures would have come out perhaps a better quality as some of the shadows were very apparent in the images, though with the lighting I would have been able to control this to a certain extent. However myself and Ray were very pleased with the images that we each took.
Adobe Photoshop I used Adobe Photoshop to create my digi-pack and advertisement. To make my photos look professional I edited them so that their skin appeared to be smoother, I did this by using the spot healer tool and then to finish the clone tool which evened out the skin. I also adjusted the blurriness of the image on different layers and changed the visibility of this, doing this added a softer glow to the image. I think that using this programme is a lot better then using a programme such as paint as it allowed me to create my own images and change settings which I would not be able to do on the paint programme. It allowed me to be creative and experiement.
Adobe OnLocation We used this programme to import any clips which we had recorded on the camera’s for our video production work. We did find that this programme was sometimes unresponsive and tended to freeze quite a lot. There was also problems with capturing the last clip of each recording, to resolve this we recorded an extra few seconds on the end of the tape so that we were able to do this without corrupting out files.
Adobe Premiere Pro This programme was used to edit all the clips together, where the video was actually created. On this programme we could cut, add transitions such as fade to black and many other things. We also edited the sound and imported other sound files to this such as the footstep noise which can be heard at the beginning few seconds of the video. Again I think that this is an ideal programme to use to edit videos as it allowed me to do everything I wanted to do, again it allowed me to experiment and change settings of each clip. Though I think this could be improved with a faster computer system as again it tended to crash and run extremely slowly, though luckily this interfered with our work in no way.
Blogger Blogger is how we have been recording our work throughout the various stages. I think that it is a more sufficient way to produce coursework as it can be accessed anywhere and easily for example, I could access this via my mobile phone and laptop and computers away from the college site.
Blackberry The use of this mobile technology was useful as we were able to upload drawing and ideas for our story board straight to the internet then place them onto blogger, this saved time as we didn't have to go through the hassle of taking a picture on a camera and then uploading it through the computer or even finding a scanner to scan into the computer.
Media 2.0 New technologies such as Youtube and Facebook has allowed me to interact with my audience to find out various feedback from my work. It makes it a lot easier as i can find out from my specific target audience members what they wanted to see in a video and also allowed them to comment upon my work.
