How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages of your project?
TechnologiesComputer/Laptop - The computer was a extremely valuable resource when it came to researching. It allowed access to the internet, websites and software that I needed throughout my project. This was a crucial piece of technology for every aspect of my main product and ancillary tasks despite it crashing and failing on me several times when editing footage, it still played a huge part in my project.
Technologies (software/internet)YouTube. (click to view the website) A free website in which professionals and amateurs can posh videos for feedback, entertainment or educational purposes. A key research tool for me when it came to looking into a variety of music videos. Not only was it useful for research but also for when it came to creating my website as videos could be taken and embedded onto my websites to support annotations and related information. (click to view the website)Google. A global search engine that helped me in researching my ancillary tasks in particular, this helped me discover conventions and inspire my own work. Again this website is free and more or less the starting point for most of the websites that I used to research different bands. I personally feel that I would have struggled without the help of Google.
Technologies (software/internet)Adobe Premier Pro My entire music video relied on this programme for editing. It uses a timeline to create the sequence in which you can add transitions, effects and cut footage. I was highly dependent on this but due to my substantial amount of footage, the programme suffered and continuously crashed on me causing a lot of work to be lost. This meant that the post filming procedure took a lot longer than expected but the overall process was pretty simple in my case as I didn’t use any transitions, everything was straight cuts to one another.
Technologies (software/internet)Canon EOS 450DI used this for stills throughout capturing all of my footage to gain a variety of photographs that could potentially incorporated within my ancillary tasks. I thought using my DSLR would increase the quality of my photo’s in comparison with digital cameras. Specifically the cloud shots I used for my magazine advert came out far better on my Canon than they did originally using a Sony hand held, 8 megapixel digital camera. Sony Handy CamIn my AS year, I used schools cameras to experiment when learning a variety of shots and although the quality was good, I much preferred the filming experience and quality of my own camera when playing with random bits of footage at home. Filming with my own camera also meant that as soon as I captured footage I could upload it ready to edit. Tripod – A tripod was used throughout filming and capturing stills to steady both DSLR and Handy Cam to prevent shaking of the camera.
Technologies (software/internet)ScannerRather than using Photoshop to create and edit my ancillary tasks, I attempted to draw everything by hand. This for me was the easier option as I'm naturally quite creative. Once I had full completed my ancillary tasks, they lacked that profession feel therefore I used a scanner to transfer my drawings onto the computer, this meant I could intensify the colours I used, edit and cut sections, add text as well as having the opportunity to feature the magazine advert and digipack on my website. The scanner also came in handy when it came to uploading my storyboard onto my website as well. Lighting KitIf I had the chance to start the filming process all over again I would prefer to have a lighting kit available, I know it would make the setting up process long and slightly impractical but I feel that it would add to the quality, especially for night shots that I didn't actually include within my video as they were too dark and dull.
Technologies (software/internet)MicrosoftPublisherPublisher was used to create and design my website. From using it in the previous year, it was quite easy to get my basic website started. To add to my website, I embedded videos, slide shows, stills and a variety of links to other pages. PowerPoint/Slide ShareAs we had to create visually interesting ways of presenting different sections of our website, I decided to use PowerPoint to create a slide show incorporating all of the technologies that I used throughout the entire pre and post production process.
