Question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
Within the film industry there are many distributors that publish the films.
Within the Post-Apocalyptic genre distributors. One example is The Book of Eli
which is distributed by Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures and
Columbia Pictures these are all multi-millionaire/multi billionaire companies.
This therefore enables these films to be shot on the latest camera, hiring the
best cast, best camera workers, and the best editors. Overall The Book of Eli
cost $80 million all together.
I Am Legend
Similarly The Road is also distributed by Warner Bros, spending a total of $159
million overall. This was distributed by releasing the films in cinemas
internationally, allowing virtually everyone all around the world to watch it.
Also social media was used to advertise the trailer of the film on places such as
YouTube, Facebook and Twitter with millions of daily users. This helped attract
people and attracts them to watch it in cinema.
For my Post-Apocalyptic film as we had nowhere near the amount of
equipment/funds that companies such as Warner Bros, this meant that we
didn’t have a known director and we has to find other ways to distribute our
film. One way I distributed the film was through social media such as Facebook
and Twitter. I asked all of my friends if they could watch my film and if they
had time to give me some general feedback. As well as this I also shared my
film onto YouTube in hope that people who have an interest within films and
people contemplating to take a media course or people who are currently
taking the course would watch it. As well as this another way to distribute my
film would be to advertise in a local/independent cinema so that a live
audience could watch my film and possibly give feedback at the end by filling
out a survey/questionnaire.
Finally if I were to do a tour in cinemas and had the funds to do so I would like
it to be mass marketed however not for too long, as you would want a fair
amount of people to watch it in cinema but not long enough for everyone to
watch, as some people may miss the chance In cinema and therefore the only
way to watch it would be to buy a DVD or a Online copy increasing profits
