TYPICAL AUDIENCES

Target audience of- 16-24, using UK Tribes I will be
looking at the likes/dislikes of different stereotypical
groups and their media consumption.
MAINSTREAM AUDIENCE

RAVERS, TOWNIES, CHAVS, BOY RACERS, SPORTS JUNKIES, STREET RATS, CASUALS

  THIS IS SHOWING THE INTERESTS AND MEDIA CONSUMPTION OF THIS PARTICULAR
                            STEREOTYPED GROUP.
Discussion of the mainstream audience

When considering if this group would be interested in this film there is a high
     percentage. I think this audience would relate with the girl characters
  instantly through their clothing of hoodies and jeans. When looking at the
media that they are interested in we can see that they would hear about the
film through word of mouth on facebook and also see the trailer on YouTube
   if they are regular users. Therefore I think we are catering well to get the
   word out about this film to this particular group. The media consumption
chart doesn’t quite show the Cinema section at ‘heavy’ but it is up there and
 by them having a heavy use of Internet and Magazines they will most likely
        hear reviews, friends opinions or access the website and trailer.

    GAMERS, EMOS, SCENE KIDS, SKATERS, METAL HEADS, YOUNG ALTS

Discussion of the mainstream audience

     We can see from this graph that the alternative audience that will be a
    percentage of our 16-24 year old target audience are quite involved with
     online buying involving DVDs and games when you see brands such as
play.com, amazon.com etc. When specifically considering what games or DVDs
 they like it will probably be anime, action games and also quite online games
where you play against others and you have your own character. I can see this
  group being interested in the horror genre and when looking at their media
usage of Facebook and YouTube like the group of ‘mainstream’ they will most
     likely hear about the film through word of mouth or watch the trailer
 especially if people share the link from YouTube to Facebook. Their internet,
  radio and cinema usage is the highest, the good thing about radio is that on
   local radios they often discuss things like what’s coming up at the cinema
  nearby etc. Therefore I think with this group we will be able to get the word
   out about it but as an audience after watching the trailer they may not be
 able to relate with the characters as much as the mainstream group however
                     their interest in the film may still be there.
LEADING EDGE
            HIPSTERS, GEEKS, CRAFT KIDS, INDIE SCENESTERS

THIS IS SHOWING THE INTERESTS AND MEDIA CONSUMPTION OF THIS PARTICULAR
                          STEREOTYPED GROUP.
The Leading edge group is very involved with the consumption of the
     Internet and Cinema, therefore this is an audience we should
 definitely be targeting. The way I can see this group possibly relating
with the film in terms of looking at the characters is that leading edge
  is seen as the outcast kind of group away from mainstream and so
   they don’t have any similar interests. And so when looking at the
    storyline and that ‘Blair Albright’ committed suicide because of
bullying they might have sympathy and a common connection here as
 ‘geeks’ is one of the leading edge groups. It is known that this group
get bullied by the mainstream group of ‘chavs’ for example therefore
   even though ‘Ste’ is the antagonist in the film it has an interesting
 twist because the audience is sort of rooting for him as he is doing it
  because these bullies ruined his life as his sister killed herself. Their
    high usage of magazines and newspapers means they will come
    across the poster possibly and also reviews from critics. So I can
definitely see an interest coming from this audience especially with it
  being a British film the mainstream audience can often like the big
    blockbusters or British films solely related to their social group.

I can see this group being interested in the horror genre and when looking at their media usage of Facebook and YouTube like the group of ‘mainstream’ they will most likely hear about the film through word of mouth or watch the trailer especially if people share the link from YouTube to Facebook. Their internet, radio and cinema usage is the highest, the good thing about radio is that on local radios they often discuss things like what’s coming up at the cinema nearby etc. Therefore I think with this group we will be able to get the word out about it but as an audience after watching the trailer they may not be able to relate with the characters as much as the mainstream group however their interest in the film may still be there.
  • 7. LEADING EDGE HIPSTERS, GEEKS, CRAFT KIDS, INDIE SCENESTERS THIS IS SHOWING THE INTERESTS AND MEDIA CONSUMPTION OF THIS PARTICULAR STEREOTYPED GROUP.
  • 8. The Leading edge group is very involved with the consumption of the Internet and Cinema, therefore this is an audience we should definitely be targeting. The way I can see this group possibly relating with the film in terms of looking at the characters is that leading edge is seen as the outcast kind of group away from mainstream and so they don’t have any similar interests. And so when looking at the storyline and that ‘Blair Albright’ committed suicide because of bullying they might have sympathy and a common connection here as ‘geeks’ is one of the leading edge groups. It is known that this group get bullied by the mainstream group of ‘chavs’ for example therefore even though ‘Ste’ is the antagonist in the film it has an interesting twist because the audience is sort of rooting for him as he is doing it because these bullies ruined his life as his sister killed herself. Their high usage of magazines and newspapers means they will come across the poster possibly and also reviews from critics. So I can definitely see an interest coming from this audience especially with it being a British film the mainstream audience can often like the big blockbusters or British films solely related to their social group.
