What A Production Company
Do:
 A production company essentially helps to
create the film. It assists in the budgeting,
scheduling, scripting and casting. The
company also usually looks over the film
from when it is just an idea. They also have
the responsibilities to find a director and
the majority of the actors. However they
are also responsible for anything that may
go wrong on the film for example an actor
being injured or equipment/property
damage.
British Film Production
Companies:
 Altitude Films – This is a vertically
integrated film company encompassing
Production, Finance, International Sales
and UK Distribution. The company was
formed in May 2012 by Will Clarke.
 Origin Pictures – This is an independent
film company making bold and ambitious
drama for both film and T.V. The company
was launched in 2008 by David Thompson
having run BBC films for over a decade.
What A Distributor Does:
A film distributor is responsible for the
marketing of the film. The distribution
company is usually different from the
production company. Distribution deals are
an important part of financing a film.
How Films Are Noticed By
Possible Distributors:
As an independent film maker I would play
my product at an independent film festival
such as: British Independent film festival
and RainDance film festival. This would
then hopefully be notice by independent
film distributors such as: DogWoof Films
and Popup Cinema.
StudioCanal or Disney
StudioCanal would be more likely to
produce our film in comparison to Disney
because Disney is a much bigger
company and doesn't’t look at independent
film makers. Also there age group is for
younger children so therefore my product
wouldn't’ be suitable in comparison to
StudioCanal who has a similar age group
as my product.
Why Big Companies Are
Unlikely To Release Your
Product:
Bigger companies are less likely to release
our product because they don’t look at
independent film makers like ourselves
they look for well know and established
film makers to produce there film this is
because they have the money to do so
and they have the experience in
comparison to us in producing blockbuster
films.
