1. My media product represents males which are fashion orientated and love music. The ages 16-27 of
the male population who liked RAP/HIP-HOP, R&B, DANCE and SOUL was my main representation.
The image I used on my magazine cover was I, an 18year old young man which would fit in with my
age grouping. Evidently male, this ultimately fits in with my represented social group and especially
as the image showsa younger male wearing fashionable clothes, whilst posing with a cool gesture.
On my contents page and also double page spread the models are presented in different poses and
different camera shots such as long shots and medium shots, this was used to show fashion-ability of
my magazine as I wanted it to come across as cool and up to date with fashion. The enhancement of
lighting in my cover photo was used to give a stylish and almost perfect look as this would express
not just to the Hip-Hop/Rap side but also the R&B and Soul side of youth in the 21st
century, whereas
the rawness of my contents page with the wall being left in the image gives more of a grungy effect,
showing a stereotype of young kids hanging about on the streets with a twist as my model isn’t
wearing a tracksuit. This representation would be more specific to underground hip-hop and rap
audiences. I specifically made sure I styled myself correctly to match my magazine so that nothing
looked out of place; representing young black males through fashion excluded the stereotype.
In my magazine I have feature many artists which represent the RAP/HIP-HOP and R&B genres.
Many of these celebrities are who teenagers look up to but in my magazine I highlight a young artist
which is under the spot light, this promotes young people in a positive light and shows they can
achieve and rise above their stereotype.
Each strapline or text used from my covercontentsand on my double page spread was written with
my social group in mind as I wanted to represent my social group to be educated and intelligent,
reason being why no colloquial and informal register is used on my cover or contents page. Again
this is to give my product a degree of professionalism. On my double page spread there is little use
of slang in the artist interview, this is to emphasise on youth and for people to relate.
