This magazine represents younger generations through its informal language and taboo words. The pictures used are also informal and relatable to people of that age. It aims to depict what that age group associates with. While the music genre appeals to both males and females, the magazine may be more appealing to boys due to pictures of females. The language indicates it targets working class readers who enjoy this music genre. It would not interest upper class people given the language and pictures used.
1. Question two Laura Slater
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
One way in which age is represented is through the language used. The language
is very informal but also uses some taboo language that some people may find
offensive and derogatory. From this we can see that the magazine is very clearly
targeted to the younger generation who are more likely to use this language in a
day to day conversation. As well as this the pictures used are quite informal. They
are also quite relatable for people of that age. It represents what people of this
age associate with.
My magazine also shows that it is mainly targeted at males and females as the
music genre is not swayed to one or the other. However I do feel like the
magazine may be more appealing towards boys as many of the pictures will
appeal widely to them. For example pictures of the females. Although the music
inside the magazine is varied and also can be related to both men and females.
Due to the language used throughout you can see that the social class this is
aimed at is working class people who need a quick read and that are into this
genre of music. This type of music magazine would not be suitable for example
upper class people due to the language and pictures used.
