2. Initial Ideas
Finding an idea that we all liked was very hard. We created ideas we thought would
be amazing but found ourselves realising there was a very small chance in us being
able to pull it off.
Some of ideas included a party scene where there was a girl who arrived not
knowing anyone and she would just be talking to people and goes outside to take a
breather. However, she hears a sound in the woodland area behind the house. But
when she gets there she ends up getting abducted. This idea was inspired by the TV
series skins incorporating 2 episodes one including a
party that was all under backlight and everyone
wearing neon and then another where a character
goes into the woods and gets chased by a group of
boys.
4. Locations
Our final decision on locations came when wandering around the city centre of Norwich.
We found a small church by the Owl Sanctuary Pub that seemed very desolate and unused.
We thought that this would be a good place to film some of the following scenes. Such as
the POV show we used for following Harriet.
When finding a bridge to use we decided upon the one that is by The Waterfront and
Riverside as it seemed very industrialised on one side due to there being a new build and
then very social on the other due to the restaurants and leisure activities. We thought this
would be the perfect place to begin the following as it could seem as though Harriet was
with friends.
For the scene in the bedroom we used mine as it seemed like a very typical teens bedroom
with posters all across the walls to reinforce the connotations in teenagers being ‘hobby
centred’.
For some of the establishing shots we used the underpass in Norwich as it seemed like a
very desolate and urban scene, due to the lighting being very fake and it being dirty we
thought that it would be good to use as it seems a very typical location for thrillers.
6. Character Profile – Rhiannon Erwin- Harriet
The cyber bully character that Harriet plays is a calm and collected
person who doesn’t look like the type of person that would bully. This
is similar to that of Pauline and Juliet from Heavenly Creatures.
Her costume was dark but also included a coloured scarf that made her
seem more innocent than what she actually was. The black of her
costume gives connotations of death and mystery, but the yellow of her
scarf can give connotations of cowardice.
Harriet's characters name was decided to be Rhiannon, as this is a
stereotypical villains name, for example in the book Candyfloss.
7. Character Profile – Kyra Blake - Charley
The name Kyra means strong woman and light. This was what I aimed
the character to show, even though to some she may seem as though
she was the villain. In some ways she may be seen as an anti-hero such
as Tony Montana from Scarface.
My clothing was mostly dark however I wore white converse to
connote the good intentions that my character had even if she killed
Harriet's; by wearing converse I was also showing how my character
was rather childish and inexperienced. The dark blue of my jacket
represented the power that my character had.
8. Character Profile – Lilly Albert – Chloe
The name Lilly Albert connotes innocence and purity, being shown by
Chloe as she takes her own life, from the cyber bullying that comes
from Harriet's character.
Her white shirt resembled her purity and her purple jacket connoted
her independence and mystery.
9. Shot Types
The different shot types that we experimented with were things such
as:
• POV Shots – to show the distress in Harriet’s character.
• Extreme Close Ups – to show the emotion on each characters face.
• Tilt shots – this was to show the disruption in the plot, and to also
make it seem disorientating.
• High angle – this was to show the status of characters, those being to
show that my character was more powerful than Harriet's.
