2. Representation on Characters In most films there are stereotypical characters that are a representation of society and the views it has on certain groups of people. These characters become stereotyped in certain films. American Teen films always have the Jocks and Cheerleaders, Horror films often have women and teenagers as their victims presenting them as being vulnerable.

3. Our Representations In our film, the main character suffers from having a split-personality, which can be linked in with types of mental illness. We also have an investigator who is a smartly dressed male. Whilst the person in the film that we see being killed is a teenage girl. So we appear to follow stereotypes already set by previous horror films, giving our film a greater verisimilitude.

4. Mental-illness Many horror films have used characters with mental illness or a split personality as their main killer or instigator. Evil Dead 2 has a character who is controlled by his alter-ego and drives him to kill people. Jekyll and Hyde is one of the earliest examples of a character with two personalities, a good and a bad. We do not shed a positive view on those who suffer from mental-illness. The connotations of people with mental illnesses are often very negative, society thinks that these people are inferior and are often scared of them. Which we have developed in our film.

5. Detectives in Film All horror and thriller films will have a detective or some sort of police officer involved to create a sense of realism. We used a male detective, smartly dressed to fit in with what is the norm in films of this genre. By having a male detective we are stereotyping society, the view that male detectives tend to get to higher places than females.

6. Our Victim In the Other Side, our victim is a teenage girl, which in many classic thriller films is the case. The vulnerability of teenagers is often targeted. Films such as Scream have done this very well. The female character is commonly seen as an easy target, and we continued with this theme in our film. In reality it is rarer to see a teenage male become a victim of a murderer, so we have created further verisimilitude.
