This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Question 1
1. QUESTION 1
In What ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
My cover page follows the conventions of the having a big noticeable masthead at the
top of the page to create a brand image for the magazine and be noticeable to the
audience. The House style being the same colour as the photography that is usually shot
in a studio and the model giving direct mode of address to connect with the audience of
trying to create a bond for example, VIBE magazine always uses this technique. Because
I had two models, I wanted to do a long shot to make them fit and the coverlines easy for
me edit, I also wanted the readers to see their costume to clearly show that they are
showing the genre afro beats (Dashiki & Trousers) and Hip Hop ( Trainers and plain
clothing).
Having a barcode, date and website link is always on a professional magazine and small
on the cover to show it’s not important as the stories and gossip but it is important to be
there for every magazine to be bought or to be more information and that’s what I have
used. The strap lines are always the second biggest font to highlight the model and
usually at the top or the bottom on top of them, while the cover lines sometimes goes
around the model like XXL magazine.
The numbers of colour scheme you should have is 3 and I broke the rule of having 5
because I had a reason of representing my genre as an African culture and grime.
3.
4. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD…
The double page spread follows the conventions of having a pull quote from the
interview which I used to grip the reader for the audience to be engaged. The
celebrities names are in bold to make them stand out anywhere on the page to
give them importance. A double page is taken up by photography of the
interviewee on a page and the interview takes up quarter or a half, so it would
show the reader that the pages are linked which inspired me by XXL magazine.
The magazines also tend to use a striking image of the band/singer in order to
interest the reader; I didn’t have an idea of how they were going to pose but I
told them to dance because I knew I would get striking images of them. The
drop capital is used to tell the audience where to start reading and it is usually
done in a bold font or colour and I got this from both magazines Vibe and XXL.
The introduction is used to show the journalists true personality and of course
introduce the artists. The style of writing can frequently change throughout of
the interview and magazine, which is what I’ve done by adding some slang
words. But the conventions I did not follow were to not do a title or issue date.
Or give credit to the photographer and writer for an insight to who wrote the
article.
5.
6. CONTENTS PAGE…
Lastly, my contents page follow the convention on having
‘Contents’ as the heading in the biggest text on the page. The
contents page can be a single or a double page spread, but I chose
double because I saw how XXL magazine had the ‘A-side’ and the
‘B side’ and it showed how I have more space and I can put all my
information which contains an image of the front cover Main image
which usually relates to the main coverline on the front cover.
Simple and consistent colour scheme would be the same as on the
cover and would also fit with the genre of the magazine. Puffs are
also used to list contents, making the layout of the contents more
interesting some articles in the magazine can be listed separately,
e.g. reviews.
7.
8. CONCLUSION.
However, with the case studies I analysed on my blogger,
I have challenged XXL magazine the most as I tried to
copy the layouts of front page, the double page I decided
to put my image more into the middle and the text all
around but the contents page I used a double page
instead of separate pages, because I thought it would
make more sense for my readers.
