IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

CONVENTIONS
Conventions are the rules that govern how you write or
shoot a media piece. They talk about the techniques,
angles, language, patters, colors, etc. that go into the
making of a piece created.
I have added the date/when
the magazine was
issued, and lastly an
exclusive story which
implies the comparability
between my magazine that
I created in comparison to
the “VIBE” magazine.
I have also
added a price on
the front
cover, which is
always
presented on
real life
magazines.
The “VIBE” magazine usually has
a persuasive strapline in order to
attract their target audience. I
have also done a similar thing by
adding an impressive, yet
convincing strapline. I have also
added a barcode which is needed
for real life magazines.
The content page usually consists of
page numbers/mini reviews. I have
advertised a feature within the
magazine to persuade the reader to
read on which again consists in real
life magazines such as “VIBE”.
FRONT COVER
My masthead is “N” as shown. I
decided to use a different font
alongside colour to make it stand from
the rest of the text on the front cover.
However, I believe my masthead fits in
well with the usual codes and
conventions of a real life magazine.
The reason being is because on real
life magazines, the masthead is usually
big and bold. I believe the font and
color I have chosen for my masthead is
eye catching/distinctive due to the
color being bright, alongside red
suggesting toughness/passion.
CONTENT PAGE
I believe my content page consists of
elements that follow the codes and
conventions displayed on real life
magazines. An example would be the
cover story which happens to stand out
in bald and placed on the fur coat worn
by the model with a bigger font/different
colors for the audience to distinguish
between the importance of a cover
story, and reviews/news etc. I believe
the way in which I have placed my
image, in terms of the size/layout
alongside the image that covers most of
the content page, with the text going
around the model, I believe is
recognized in existing music
magazines, therefore again meets the
codes and conventions of real life
magazines.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
Double page spreads usually
consists of a story about the
artist on the front cover. I
have also met the existing
codes and conventions of by
adding a story alongside
sneak-peaks of what my artist
as displayed on the front
cover alongside the double
page spread has in store for
his audience, which will leave
them feeling excited and
instantly attracted to keep up
to date with “Marcus Cole”.
Mis-en-scene of images/clothing
I think the mis-en-scene of my images follow the codes and conventions
of existing real life magazines. The reason being is because my models
have posed in a specific which gives the audience a slight hint of what
type of genre the music magazine belongs to. The images have been
taken at a close up camera shot alongside long length shot, with a variety
of different postures which I believe suggests the models are
tough/passionate/thug type. Usually the models that are displayed in
grime magazines consist of males, however I have also added a female
model which adds a twist and makes the magazine slightly
unconventional. I also made my models wear specific clothing such as
hoodies, Hat, Fur coat etc which suggest they are the thug type alongside
makes it easier for the audience to recognize the music magazine I have
created belongs to grime, which I believe again meets the existing codes
and conventions.
overall I believe the images work well to present grime, alongside follow
the usual codes and conventions used in real magazines.
LAYOUT
From viewing my music magazine, you'll agree that my magazine meets
the codes and conventions used in real life magazines, therefore is mostly
conventional. I have used the layout for both my front cover and content
page, which would commonly be the layout used by magazines such as
“VIBE”. However with the double page spread, I decided to use half the
page to insert a large image of the model which isn't usually used on
existing magazines which leads to certain parts of the music magazine
being unconventional. In terms of headers/subheadings, I decided to
follow the codes and conventions, as I didn't’t want to make the music
magazine look overly complicated, and extremely unconventional.

  • 1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS? CONVENTIONS CONVENTIONS CONVENTIONS Conventions are the rules that govern how you write or shoot a media piece. They talk about the techniques, angles, language, patters, colors, etc. that go into the making of a piece created.
  • 2. I have added the date/when the magazine was issued, and lastly an exclusive story which implies the comparability between my magazine that I created in comparison to the “VIBE” magazine. I have also added a price on the front cover, which is always presented on real life magazines. The “VIBE” magazine usually has a persuasive strapline in order to attract their target audience. I have also done a similar thing by adding an impressive, yet convincing strapline. I have also added a barcode which is needed for real life magazines. The content page usually consists of page numbers/mini reviews. I have advertised a feature within the magazine to persuade the reader to read on which again consists in real life magazines such as “VIBE”.
  • 3. FRONT COVER My masthead is “N” as shown. I decided to use a different font alongside colour to make it stand from the rest of the text on the front cover. However, I believe my masthead fits in well with the usual codes and conventions of a real life magazine. The reason being is because on real life magazines, the masthead is usually big and bold. I believe the font and color I have chosen for my masthead is eye catching/distinctive due to the color being bright, alongside red suggesting toughness/passion.
  • 4. CONTENT PAGE I believe my content page consists of elements that follow the codes and conventions displayed on real life magazines. An example would be the cover story which happens to stand out in bald and placed on the fur coat worn by the model with a bigger font/different colors for the audience to distinguish between the importance of a cover story, and reviews/news etc. I believe the way in which I have placed my image, in terms of the size/layout alongside the image that covers most of the content page, with the text going around the model, I believe is recognized in existing music magazines, therefore again meets the codes and conventions of real life magazines.
  • 5. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD Double page spreads usually consists of a story about the artist on the front cover. I have also met the existing codes and conventions of by adding a story alongside sneak-peaks of what my artist as displayed on the front cover alongside the double page spread has in store for his audience, which will leave them feeling excited and instantly attracted to keep up to date with “Marcus Cole”.
  • 6. Mis-en-scene of images/clothing I think the mis-en-scene of my images follow the codes and conventions of existing real life magazines. The reason being is because my models have posed in a specific which gives the audience a slight hint of what type of genre the music magazine belongs to. The images have been taken at a close up camera shot alongside long length shot, with a variety of different postures which I believe suggests the models are tough/passionate/thug type. Usually the models that are displayed in grime magazines consist of males, however I have also added a female model which adds a twist and makes the magazine slightly unconventional. I also made my models wear specific clothing such as hoodies, Hat, Fur coat etc which suggest they are the thug type alongside makes it easier for the audience to recognize the music magazine I have created belongs to grime, which I believe again meets the existing codes and conventions. overall I believe the images work well to present grime, alongside follow the usual codes and conventions used in real magazines.
  • 7. LAYOUT From viewing my music magazine, you'll agree that my magazine meets the codes and conventions used in real life magazines, therefore is mostly conventional. I have used the layout for both my front cover and content page, which would commonly be the layout used by magazines such as “VIBE”. However with the double page spread, I decided to use half the page to insert a large image of the model which isn't usually used on existing magazines which leads to certain parts of the music magazine being unconventional. In terms of headers/subheadings, I decided to follow the codes and conventions, as I didn't’t want to make the music magazine look overly complicated, and extremely unconventional.
