In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
My media product is a performance and narrative music video for the
 song ‘One in the Morning’ by StopGoSixty. When creating and
 producing my music video I first researched into the various
 conventions of real media products to get an idea of what to include
 in my video, poster and digipak. This allowed me to gain
 information about the genre, pop/rock which I was focusing on for
 my music video, and create something that would be desirable and
 attract my target audience of 16-25 year olds. Andrew Goodwin’s
 music video theory has shown me how certain characteristics are
 included in music videos and I have tried to use some of the
 information from this and include it in my music video. Due to the
 genre of pop/rock the conventions used show a narrative which
 links to the lyrics of the song which I have chosen to include in my
 video but have also used a performance concept as well to create a
 more unique video to the generalised pop/rock videos. When
 incorporating ideas that focused on these conventions I have tried to
 create something that will engage the target audience, allow them to
 familiarise with the product and recognise the style used.
The narrative running through my video shows an aggressive young
  male who has become reliant on alcohol. I have tried to match the
  narrative to the lyrics of the song showing the protagonist growing
  out of control. I have incorporated a performance aspect into the
  video as I found that this would give a more upbeat feeling to the
  video due to the energy being emitted from the band on stage.

To follow the upbeat tone of the song, performance and narrative I
  have used jump cuts between scenes to keep the fast pace of the
  video and have matched the cuts to the beat of the music to relate to
  the track. I have also done this to emphasise the change and ensure
  a clean cut from one scene to another. Throughout my research I
  have found that common themes and styles are used within music
  videos to add to the emphasis of the artist in the video. Some of
  which I have used within my video such as close ups, mid shots and
  long shots along with movements to ensure a focus is on the band to
  emphasis them, the locations and emotions.
Although I have used mainly conventions from the specific music
  video genre of pop/rock I have also included the element of stop
  motion which challenges most conventions for the genre as it is
  quite a unique prospect. I have used stop motion as it breaks up the
  conventions of the genre and links with the idea of a ‘demon’
  included in the lyrics suggesting that the demon is his downfall. This
  idea and the action of the protagonist after the stop motion is shown
  adds to the narrative of the video and creates a more unique aspect
  as stop motion is not commonly used within the pop/rock genre.
