Maslow's theory of quality of life defines it in terms of the hierarchical satisfaction of needs of most members in a society. The higher the need satisfaction, the greater the quality of life. Developed societies focus on higher needs like social, esteem and self-actualization, while less developed societies focus on lower needs like biological and safety needs. Applying Maslow's theory to employees, improving their quality of life through need satisfaction can increase work motivation and performance. This in turn can improve quality of care for patients.
