Kinnikinnick is a spreading woody shrub native to northern latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. It grows as a low, mat-like groundcover and has small, dark green leaves and pink-white urn-shaped flowers. Its bright red berries are edible when cooked. Kinnikinnick is useful as a hardy, drought-tolerant groundcover and its dried leaves have traditional medicinal uses. It attracts songbirds and other wildlife and is a sensible substitute for invasive non-native groundcovers.
