WORK SYSTEM ANALYSIS: PART I
PROFESSOR J. IAN NORRIS, PhD
SEPTEMBER 28, 2015
Defining the Work System
The Work System I will explore is the admissions process at Union Institute & University. The admissions process consists of Enrollment Counselors guiding prospects from the inquiry stage to the admitted stage. The primary role of the Enrollment Counselors in the admission process is to give the applicant a brief description of the program and school, answer any questions they may have and follow-up with them to assist them with completing the admissions process. This process for the applicant involves submitting an essay, application, transcripts and completing a FAFSA. One of the issues that arise after an applicant is admitted is in relation to Financial Aid.
As Enrollment Counselors, we have no access to Financial Aid information and must rely on the Financial Aid Department to make sure the student is educated on Financial Aid. However, my suggestion would require Financial Aid be involved in the admissions process in the early stages. Later on, we explore possible recommendations to support this. The portion of the paper will discuss the many components of the work system such as the participants, customers, information, technologies, products/services produced for the customers, environment, infrastructure and strategies.

Participants Comment by Ian Norris: Nice table
The participants in the work system include Enrollment Counselors (ECs) and advisors from the Financial Aid Department. “The efficiency of the work and the quality of the outcome depends on the participants” (Alter, 11). As ECs, the more skilled and knowledgeable we are about program offerings and transfer credits, the better we can decipher amongst quality prospects who we can guide through the admissions process as efficiently as possible. Also, the more information we are able to provide for the prospect on the front end will help to prevent issues that may occur on the back end like once they are admitted and are then transferred to a Program Advisor. The second participant in the process would be financial aid advisors. The financial aid advis.

When it comes to processes in a business there are many different things that come about like reasons. With any process there are many different reason why they are put on place. Some reason could be to make the organization move smoothly others could be to help aid and assign task to which department. When it comes to process they are always made to help with the operations of an organization, but sometimes the process that are put in place can use improvement. This does not mean that processes that were put in place hinder the organization but, since business is always changing process is my sometimes update with the change.
VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System
Currently I am an employee of the education office at the Cleveland VA Medical Center. We have over 5,000 employees and over 13 clinics throughout the state of Ohio. A major part of the education office is to make sure all employees are up to date with trainings, education, and even yearly conferences. The Education department processes over $300,000 of education request per year so, making sure processes are working is key for this departments success.
Current process
Some of the education process is one of the most important one is reimbursement for tuition. When employee decides to go to a conference or get any form of education the education department can reimburse the employee. When in employee decides to finally give for reimbursement there are many processes that come into play when it comes to processing these payments to the employee. The current process for tuition reimbursement is that the employee gives a SF 1164 to the education department. Once the education department received and approved the SF 1164 for the correct amount we send it to fiscal. Once fiscal receives it they audit the supporting documents then sends it to the accounting department. Accounting will process the request and send it to payroll and then payroll will send the requested funds to the employee.
Issues in process
Now with the current process just like any process they can sometimes be flawed. Some of the major flaws that we see with this process is the lack of communication among the department and a disconnect from employee to fiscal. Some of the issue we in the education department sees is the lack of communication. With the current process the education department gives the supporting documents to fiscal via mail. Once they receive the forms fiscal does not communicate if they received the documents or not. This has caused many issues with employees and other departments within this process. This is because fiscal does not have a process for communication in place. Due to a lack of communication, employees will sometimes never receive reimbursement. The cause of this c.

The topic on continuous quality improvement for my final project that I selected is Patient Administration. There are many health care sectors that are involved with patient administration.
Some of those heath care sectors consist of:
1. Hospital Management Firms
2. Health Maintenance Organizations
3. Health Information Technology
4. Long Term Care Facilities
5. Public Health
6. Healthcare Network
While CQI implementation is slowing down in some health care sectors after the impact of early adopters may have worn off, other sectors of health care, such as public health (see Chapter 16) and nursing (see Chapter 17), are embracing and expanding CQI concepts and methods. (Sollecito 70)
There are many disciplines involved with patient administration.
1. Public Health
2. Physical Therapy
3. Pharmacy
4. Nursing
This process is real. Patient Administration is an area that Continuous Quality Improvement can make a difference in how patient’s view the healthcare they receive. Healthcare will always be needed, because not many are willing to try the alternative of not getting healthcare.

Evaluate the efficacy of your process using process improvement techniques. Write your evaluation below this line.
I think that the current method for registration is outdated. To arrive a patient for services, the technique is currently straight forward and organized as the flowchart. Additional step could be taken to increase data transmission and accelerate the overall registration processes.Process Improvement Flowchart
Determine how the process can be improved
based on the results of your evaluation.
I could improve this approach by asking comprehensive questions during each patient encounter. This is so I could learn the registration process as much as possible. Learning through observation and physically registering patients would be the most informative Furthermore, this will reduce the number of call.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Introduction
• A flowchart is a formalized graphic representation of a logic
sequence , work or manufacturing process, organization
chart, or similar formalized structure. The purpose of a
flowchart is to provide people with a common language or
reference point when dealing with a project or process.
• Each step in the process is represented by a different symbol
and contains a short description of the process step. The
flowchart symbols are linked together with arrows showing
the process flow direction.

4. Common flowchart Symbols
Different flowchart symbols have different meanings .
The most common flowchart symbols are:
• Terminator: An oval flowchart shape in deciding the start or end of
the process.
• Process : A rectangular flowchart shape indicating a normal process
flow steps.
• Decision : A decimal flowchart in dictations a branch in the process
flow.
• Connector : A small, labeled, circular flow chart shape used to
indicate a jump in the process flow.
• Data : A parallelogram that indicates data input or output for a
process.

10. We found the lack of proper information during an admission presence such as
Parents presence was mandatory , Fee can be deposited in cash as well as in
Demand draft form etc.
It could have been great help if students and their parents were discussed about
the respective academic course, the basic things they are going to be needed
followed by a visit to the respective hostels in which student will be staying
during their academic session . As the students come from very far distant place
so it is essential to have proper information.
We feel a concise form of open discussion could have solved most of the above
mentioned problems.
11. We found the process time consuming . It took more than usual time where
it should not be such as during document verification . Their should be an
extra administrators when it was expected to have so many students and
validity of documents is going to be check strictly.
Due to time taking process students as well as parents suffered with no easy
availability of refreshment.
Tackling of crowd got hard at some points during the process. Parents
should have been engaged in some other activities.
We feel there was not proper organization internally as it seems from
outside. A proper organization could have solved the problem of time
consuming process.
12. We found that during medical examination there were lack of many basic
medical facilities . There was neither proper set up nor equipment for the
medical examinations . Even there were lack of professionals as compared to
the number of students.
Medical examination of the students was not very detailed. The cross checking
of information regarding the students health with the information filled in the
form by the students was not done very properly.
If the medical facilities was good than we could prevent future consequences
regarding the health issues of the students . A proper medical record of the student
Is also important for the college specially if it is residential .
13.
14. Flow Charting is very effecting technique to present
the data . It is very eye catching technique and easy to
understand process.
The college must provide detailed information about
the admission process , courses as well as the hostels
to the students and parents to avoid inconvenience
and misunderstanding during the process.
The best way to tackle this problem is to conduct a
open discussion with parents and students. So, the
issues can be solved face to face and no one remain in
doubt.
15. The internal management of any process is as
important as outside management. It is very important
to manage internal management with proper strategy.
It would be very convenient and helpful if the admission
process is short and some of the processes are done
online ( for example fee submission etc.). There must be
balance between number of staff members and number
of students come to take admission to avoid time
wastage and mismanagement.
16. Medical examination must be done with the help of
proper equipment and professionals. It is important to
keep a medical record of student.
The whole admission process must be designed with
proper planning and the convenience of the students
and parents should be area of concern.
