3. What have you
learned from your
audience feedback?
Through the audience
feedback on my survey I
found that the target
audience for my film was
mainly aged between 16
and 18, and that it was
also both males and
females.The products
were made to appeal to
this age range and during
the editing of the film
trailer a target audience
from this age range was
asked for feedback to
keep it appealing to this
target audience.
Through my survey I was also able to
find out what would attract my
audience more to a horror film and
used these findings to create my
product that would appeal to my target
audience.
My target audience chose the sub-genre
for the horror film as being a
psychological thriller through the survey.
The most preferred
setting was the modern
setting which suited the
psychological part of the
sub-genre for the film. For
this reason a location of
the school and a home of
the protagonist was used
to play on the audience’s
mind and to help build
suspense and horror,
because the audience can
relate to the setting’s
being used.
The character of the
protagonist was most
appealing as being female and
to be a ‘good’ character. For
this reason the character was
shown to be quite vulnerable
which allowed the audience to
sympathise with her.
The plot of the film
followed themes of
stalking and abduction in
order to appeal to the
target audience and their
needs for a horror film. By
following a more realistic
plot the film appeals more
to the psychological part
of the film and helps to
build suspense and
anticipation for the target
audience.
During the filming and editing for the horror trailer,
feedback from the target audience was collected on
viewing the trailer; this meant that the trailer was
kept appealing to the target audience.
Changes were made to the trailer to fit the needs of
the target audience from the feedback that was
collected from members of the target audience.
These changes are shown in the following slides.
An extra moment of horror was added into the trailer, to make it more appealing by
building more tension and suspense for the target audience. A manipulated voiceover of
someone saying “I’m watching you” was used to play on the audiences mind, it was
manipulated so as not to give away the antagonists character.
After considering the audience feedback, the non-diegetic background sound was
changed to something more suitable for the theme of the film. The sound was changed
at the point of when the action starts to something pacier that will spark more fear and
build more suspense for the audience.
Sounds in the background of the action were added in to better explain why the
protagonist goes searching the house for someone/something.These noises continue
while she continues on the search this is to continue to build the tension for the audience.
Banging noises were used to make it seem more realistic for the psychological part of the
film and so playing on the audience fear.
In order to build more suspense for the film to make it more appealing to the target
audience, an extra moment of horror shot was added of another text message from the
antagonist to the protagonist. This shot was used to stick with the film of the film and
to help make it seem more obvious while still playing on the fear of the audience and
being more realistic to again to play on the psychological part of the film.
To build more tension for the film after audience feedback a ticking clock sound effect
was added over the start of the main action .This was done to give the effect that the
protagonist was running out of time which builds suspense as the audience want her to
come out okay, however the trailer doesn’t show the ending so the build up of tension
to leave it on a ‘cliff-hanger’ encourages the audience to buy the film.
The target audience feedback had recommended using something that was said earlier
in the trailer as a voiceover at the end of the trailer to help build suspense for the film.
For this reason we used a voiceover from the protagonist’s boyfriend ‘Charlie’ when he
says “I don’t want you speaking to that Ethan kid”. By using this quote it makes the
audience begin to question who the antagonist in the film is which again makes them
want to buy the film.
In the final clip, shown after the title of the film is revealed bells were added over the
screaming of the protagonist to make that clip seem more scary. The audience feedback
had suggested that adding more fear to that final clip may add that final bit of tension to
the trailer that would make the audience want to watch the film. Bells were used as this
ties in with the ticking clock in the final scenes before this, which suggests that time is
up for the protagonist, playing on the fear of the audience.
After we finalised our product, the target audience was asked
about their thoughts and feedback on it.
One member of the target audience said that it delivered as a
horror movie trailer and that it looked quite professional with
good quality camera work.
Another target audience representative said that the music
when the action starts could have been edgier to increase the
fear that a horror trailer should induce in the audience. For this
reason if I were to create the trailer again I would change the
music when the action starts to something that will help build
the tension and suspense.
The sound from the recordings of the footage could be
improved with the use of a microphone to make the trailer
more professional .

Q3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

  • 1. 3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  • 2. Through the audience feedback on my survey I found that the target audience for my film was mainly aged between 16 and 18, and that it was also both males and females. The products were made to appeal to this age range and during the editing of the film trailer a target audience from this age range was asked for feedback to keep it appealing to this target audience.
  • 3. Through my survey I was also able to find out what would attract my audience more to a horror film and used these findings to create my product that would appeal to my target audience. My target audience chose the sub-genre for the horror film as being a psychological thriller through the survey.
  • 4. The most preferred setting was the modern setting which suited the psychological part of the sub-genre for the film. For this reason a location of the school and a home of the protagonist was used to play on the audience’s mind and to help build suspense and horror, because the audience can relate to the setting’s being used.
  • 5. The character of the protagonist was most appealing as being female and to be a ‘good’ character. For this reason the character was shown to be quite vulnerable which allowed the audience to sympathise with her.
  • 6. The plot of the film followed themes of stalking and abduction in order to appeal to the target audience and their needs for a horror film. By following a more realistic plot the film appeals more to the psychological part of the film and helps to build suspense and anticipation for the target audience.
  • 7. During the filming and editing for the horror trailer, feedback from the target audience was collected on viewing the trailer; this meant that the trailer was kept appealing to the target audience. Changes were made to the trailer to fit the needs of the target audience from the feedback that was collected from members of the target audience. These changes are shown in the following slides.
  • 8. An extra moment of horror was added into the trailer, to make it more appealing by building more tension and suspense for the target audience. A manipulated voiceover of someone saying “I’m watching you” was used to play on the audiences mind, it was manipulated so as not to give away the antagonists character.
  • 9. After considering the audience feedback, the non-diegetic background sound was changed to something more suitable for the theme of the film. The sound was changed at the point of when the action starts to something pacier that will spark more fear and build more suspense for the audience.
  • 10. Sounds in the background of the action were added in to better explain why the protagonist goes searching the house for someone/something.These noises continue while she continues on the search this is to continue to build the tension for the audience. Banging noises were used to make it seem more realistic for the psychological part of the film and so playing on the audience fear.
  • 11. In order to build more suspense for the film to make it more appealing to the target audience, an extra moment of horror shot was added of another text message from the antagonist to the protagonist. This shot was used to stick with the film of the film and to help make it seem more obvious while still playing on the fear of the audience and being more realistic to again to play on the psychological part of the film.
  • 12. To build more tension for the film after audience feedback a ticking clock sound effect was added over the start of the main action .This was done to give the effect that the protagonist was running out of time which builds suspense as the audience want her to come out okay, however the trailer doesn’t show the ending so the build up of tension to leave it on a ‘cliff-hanger’ encourages the audience to buy the film.
  • 13. The target audience feedback had recommended using something that was said earlier in the trailer as a voiceover at the end of the trailer to help build suspense for the film. For this reason we used a voiceover from the protagonist’s boyfriend ‘Charlie’ when he says “I don’t want you speaking to that Ethan kid”. By using this quote it makes the audience begin to question who the antagonist in the film is which again makes them want to buy the film.
  • 14. In the final clip, shown after the title of the film is revealed bells were added over the screaming of the protagonist to make that clip seem more scary. The audience feedback had suggested that adding more fear to that final clip may add that final bit of tension to the trailer that would make the audience want to watch the film. Bells were used as this ties in with the ticking clock in the final scenes before this, which suggests that time is up for the protagonist, playing on the fear of the audience.
  • 15. After we finalised our product, the target audience was asked about their thoughts and feedback on it. One member of the target audience said that it delivered as a horror movie trailer and that it looked quite professional with good quality camera work. Another target audience representative said that the music when the action starts could have been edgier to increase the fear that a horror trailer should induce in the audience. For this reason if I were to create the trailer again I would change the music when the action starts to something that will help build the tension and suspense. The sound from the recordings of the footage could be improved with the use of a microphone to make the trailer more professional .
