Schizophrenia is characterized by psychosis, or a loss of contact with reality. It has a prevalence of 1% of the population and is classified into positive and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms include delusions and hallucinations, while negative symptoms involve a reduction in emotions and behaviors. Biological factors like genetics and dopamine levels are thought to contribute to schizophrenia. Treatment involves atypical antipsychotic drugs which target both positive and negative symptoms with fewer side effects than conventional drugs. However, antipsychotics may also have disadvantages like sudden death or involuntary movements.

Relationship Of ATPs With Schizophrenia And Affective Disorders: The risk for affective disorders among FDRs (First degree relatives) of schizophrenics was 6-8%; and the risk for schizophrenia among relatives of affective disorders was 0.5-3.5% and both these risks were much higher than the risk in the general population for the respective disorders.
ATP Validation Studies: Chandigarh Acute Psychosis Study, Chandigarh CAP study, ICMR Acute Psychosis Study and their results discussed.
Recurrence in ATP: Malhotra et al. reported a recurrence rate of 46.6% on 8-year follow-up; whereas Rozario et al. found recurrence in 35% cases of ATP on 5-year follow-up.

Delusional Parasitosis
Mr. AR, a 50-year-old Afghani farmer, was admitted to the hospital due to a 2-year history of delusional beliefs that centipedes were crawling in his brain. He had received prior treatment from multiple doctors and faith healers without improvement. Upon examination, he was found to have a delusional disorder with comorbid depression. He was started on risperidone, fluoxetine, and ECT, which led to an improvement in his symptoms. His long term prognosis was considered guarded due to potential noncompliance and the entrenched nature of his delusional beliefs.

HPI: The patient is a White female who is 26 years old. She says that she was given medication that made her sleepy during her recent admission to an inpatient psychiatric facility. She says that she was struggling with sleep before she was treated at the facility. She also reports that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She says that within one week, she has lost 14 pounds. She complains that she sleeps too much at night. She rates her happiness in life at an eight out of ten and denies suicide and homicide ideation. The patient reports that she has highs and lows in her moods.
Past Psychiatric History
General Statement: The patient has been previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Caregivers: not reported.
Hospitalizations: Prior inpatient admission at a psychiatric facility.
Medication Trials: Lithium during last inpatient visit

CARDIOVASCULAR: The patient does not experience any discomfort in the chest.
RESPIRATORY: The patient has steady breathing and does not experience shortness of breath. The rising and falling of her chest are expected, with no dyspnea or respiratory issues.
GASTROINTESTINAL: The patient does not have any nausea, abdominal pains, running stomach, or vomiting episodes
GENITOURINARY: The patient can pass urine without experiencing any pain or discomfort.

Case presentation geriatric depression
This case presentation describes a 57-year-old man with a 2-3 year history of symptoms of sadness, disturbed sleep, irritability, and muttering to himself. His symptoms started gradually without a clear stressor. After a thorough examination, he was diagnosed with agitated depression. He was treated on an outpatient basis with escitalopram and lorazepam, along with family psychoeducation and relaxation techniques. Apl08 reducing prejudice
There are several strategies for counteracting prejudice discussed in the document. The contact hypothesis proposed by Allport argues that intergroup contact can reduce prejudice when there is equal status, cooperation, personal acquaintance, and support. A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

Being sane in insane places • Done in two parts: • Part 1 – use of healthy participants (3 women and 5 men) who briefly simulated auditory hallucinations in an attempt to gain admission to 12 different psychiatric hospitals in five different states around United States. • All were admitted and diagnosed with psychiatric disorders (11 schizophrenia, 1 manic-depressive psychosis). • After admission, they acted normally and told staff they felt fine and had not experienced any more hallucinations. • Hospital staff did not believe them, and they were confined for months. All were forced to admit to having a mental illness and agree to take antipsychotic drugs as a condition of their release. • Stays ranged from 7 to 52 days
