The student created a poster, magazine cover, and trailer to promote a mysterious media product theme. While the poster was the strongest, the magazine cover image did not fit the dark, mysterious tone of the other works. To improve, a full-body image of the main model could have been used and edited in Photoshop, with better positioning to fill space. Overall, the products were effective individually but did not fully cohere as a group due to the magazine cover design.

1. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
Amie Carpenter
2. INTRODUCTION
To start my final project, I began to look for influences from other films and magazines. Whilst doing so, I
identified several features and conventions that are found in all products. This was a convention that I had to
include throughout in order to create a brand image through the audience relations to the products.
It is extremely important to have a strong continuous theme between my media products in order for it to be
successful. I wanted to use this continuous theme as a base for my creative decisions. However looking back, I
think I could have improved it. I think overall my products work well but my magazine could have been better. I
think the only issue is the cover image. The idea behind the cover image was that it was meant to be my main
character but ‘taken over’ by the Death Note, almost as if it's taken over her soul.
For my media products, I decided to use a theme of mysteriousness. This presentation will show how I used
the theme in each product whilst comparing them.
4. I think that my poster was my strongest point. When approaching this task, I felt confident as I had experience
making magazine covers, from my foundation course and from a design course I attended.
However, when I compare them all together, I feel my magazine, mainly my cover image,
let me down as it’s the only one that looks out of place. My media products as a whole
are edited to be dark and slightly mysterious however with my magazine, it is the
complete opposite. To improve, I could of used an image of my main model, in full cover.
Then go on to edit it on Photoshop. I also think that I could of positioned the my model
better as it’s left a blank, open space on my magazine, making it look almost empty.
Overall, I think that the combination of my main products are effective. I
think that it looks good, maybe not with all three of them as a group, but
as separate, independent products. But next time, I will need to look more
carefully into my main images and look for similar conventions.
