Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

Q2 2019 Quick Preview – Employee Central & Platform
• As of Q2 2019, in Employee Central instances, admins can now configure up to 3 fields from Job Information and custom fields to
show more information about a persons employment. This fields will be displayed in the Quickcard, Employment Switcher and
People Profile.
• Previously there was no transaction that allowed an admin to hire an employee and end his term within one step/transaction. With
Q2 2019, the termination date and the termination reason (event reason) can be added in the New Hire Wizard. If activated and
configured in the system, only one approval workflow will be triggered. This transaction has a new permission setting.
• In previous releases, it was possible to create a succession data model (SDM) for the contingent workers and onboardees. From
the Q2 2019 release, you can create them for the employee in Employment Information as well. They are then taken into account
for the Profile, Take Action, Workflow, and History.
• For internal transfers within a company, admins can now receive earlier access to employee data whereas previously they did not
have it until the exact day of the transfer. Using permissions and permission groups (using dynamic group filters), you can set the
system to show data earlier, for example, 30 days before the transfer.

• An admin can now create different work or life event templates such as child birth, marriage, divorce, dependent separation by creating
multiple "Benefit Work/Life Event" for the system event "Others/Manual". These templates determine the system behavior for
each benefit that can be changed for each type of life event.
• Re-enrollment of a benefit is now supported. If an employee opts out of a benefit in which they previously had manually enrolled,
they can re-enroll into the same benefit as per their eligibility. When the enrollment window is open, they can enroll without an exception.
When the enrollment window is closed, admin must create an exception for the employee to re-enroll.
• Open enrolment UI has been enhanced for better user experience. Now, in the Open Enrolment sections, when an employee chooses a
benefit, enter the required details, the button to confirm the changes have been renamed to "Add to Cart". When a benefit is added
to cart, a notification is displayed for a few seconds stating the benefit is successfully added. When an employee navigates to another
page, without submitting the cart, a messages is displayed asking if the employee wants to submit the cart.

Q2 2019 Quick Preview – Employee Central & Platform
• Previously, MDF OData API entities only contained two string-type properties for audit user fields createdBy and lastModifiedBy. Now SAP
has added the corresponding navigation properties: createdByNav and lastModifiedByNav. You can use them to query the related
user information of MDF entities. The new navigation properties are enabled for all MDF entities by default.
• SAP recommends that all MDF objects should be created as RBP secured. With Q2 2019, the default value for 'Secured' field is set
to 'Yes' for all the custom objects. Secured is set to Yes for None, Basic, and Multiple Changes Per Day (MCPD) effective-dated objects
and not for FROM_PARENT effective-dated object. If you try to change the value while creating or editing a custom object, a warning
message is displayed asking you not to change the default value. As the new objects are RBP secured, you would also need to ensure that
you grant necessary Role-based Permissions before you could access such custom object from Manage Data page.
• It is possible to update the Picklist header information along with create or delete Picklist versions.
• SAP has enhanced the Rules Engine to allow you to create variables before configuring the rule details. A variable serves as a

• Previously, to search an MDF entity in the Instance Synchronization Wizard, you had to enter the full external code. Now, you can search
the MDF entities by entering the partial external code. This helps you search your entities easily.
• To avoid picklists being corrupted due to inconsistency during sync job, SAP has added a validation that prevents you to sync
picklists (MDF and Legacy) between instances that are migrated and not migrated to MDF Picklists. For example, you can't
sync picklists when the source instance is migrated to MDF Picklists and target instance is not migrated or vice-versa.

Q2 2019 Quick Preview – Employee Central & Platform
• Message logging is now enabled for BAdIs too. By this, you will be able to see the error, warning, and success messages displayed in
the SLG1 log from the BAdI. An exporting parameter is added to the BAdI interface by which you can display any messages. By this you
can capture the messages from the BAdI implementation.
• If you replicate newly hired employees from Employee Central to the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system using the version of
employee master data replication that is based on the Business Integration Builder (BIB), the ERP system now makes sure that a new
personnel number is assigned to the replicated employee only when replication was successful. Previously, the personnel
number was assigned in the first replication run and then discarded in case the replication wasn't successful. With the next replication run,
another new personnel number was used. Now, if replication fails, the same personnel number is being reused in the next replication run.
• Custom OM infotypes are now supported in Business Integration Builder-based organizational data replication between
Employee Central and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system as well as in the migration process from ERP to Employee Central.
By this enhancement, you will be now able to map custom OM infotypes and the corresponding infotype fields.
• SAP now provides default Employee Central entities for replication of the "Position Matrix Relationship" object to and from
Employee Central. Employee Central entities are available for web service-based or CSV file-based migration from as well as web service-
based replication to the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. We also added corresponding field and value mapping entries to the
following sample content versions in the ERP system: OM_WS_5 (Organizational Data ERP to EC with Relationships: WS Mode) for data
migration to Employee Central. OM_WS_3 (Organizational Data EC to ERP: Position Mgmt Relationships), for data replication from
Employee Central.

For all the customers currently using this beta API, please change the endpoint URL. This API provides access to pending data for workflow

Q2 2019 Quick Preview – Employee Central & Platform
• Starting with this release, SAP now supports suppressing identical records only when Admins update the existing Job History
and Personal Information entities. This means, if the data in the system and the data you're trying to update are same while
importing these templates, the records will not be updated. In earlier releases, the system suppressed the data when Admins inserted a
new or updated an existing Job History and Personal Information entities identical to the records that already exist. Note that the behavior
for Employment Details and Biographical Information entities remains the same as it was earlier.
• You can now see only supported person type in the dropdown list when you configure a new person type under HRIS element.
Previously, unsupported person types would also appear.
• The addresses of an employee's dependents and emergency contact are now included in the Information Report in accordance
to data protection regulations.
• Has now adds and stores additional information such as document category and the respective user or person data when
uploading attachments for EC HRIS objects (Personal Information, Person Relationships, Person Information, National ID, Home
Address, Work Permit, and Job Information). This enhancement enables you to filter by document category within Manage Documents and
allows you to improve the integration with your document management system. This is a universal feature since we implemented
predefined document categories.
• In earlier releases, clicking the Manage link in the Position quick card navigated users to "Manage Data". If changes were performed there,
the incumbent was not synchronized. As of the Q2 2019 release, clicking the Manage link in the Position quick card navigates users
to "Manage Positions" and any changes performed there are synchronized to the incumbent.
• As of Q2 2019, you can now configure more customer-specific fields in the data model for Personal Information and Global
Information. Custom strings have been extended to 30 and custom date fields extended to 20, along with the alternate fields for those
fields. You can make the changes in the Business Configuration UI or in the XML for the data model.
• Previously, you could only change the hire date for an employee if you were using "Time Off for Leave of Absence Only". As of the Q2
2019 release, you'll also be able to change the date if you're using the full Time Off feature, provided you've been assigned the "Hire
Date Correction" permission in the Admin Center.
• SAP has increased the maximum number of users who can be included in a single purge request. Before, a purge request was
limited to a maximum of 200 users. This limit was too low for large organizations who are running the data purge for the first time, so SAP
raised the limit to 10,000 users.

• You can use Enhanced Manage Pending Hires with Employee Central Integration in the Onboarding screen to sort, filter, as
well as recognize records that are already in Draft folder and in Workflow approval process. Enhanced Manage Pending Hires
comes with configurable columns and configurable columns names. You can enable Enhanced Pending Hires from Manage Employee
Central Settings and access Configure Columns for Manage Pending Hires from Admin Center to configure your columns.
• HRIS Sync is enhanced in the following ways to eliminate data discrepancy. If you are an Employee Central user, the fields in the
Live Profile User Information block in Employee Profile will be read-only. These fields can only be updated by the HRIS Sync process to
ensure data consistency. If you are not an Employee Central user, nothing is impacted - that is, as long as you have the correct role-
based permissions, you can still edit the information on the Live Profile User Information block in your profile.
• You can now schedule an outbound integration multiple times per day by selecting 'multiple executions per day' option from the
Scheduling tab. You can schedule a maximum of 5 such integrations with a frequency up to 6 times per day. This is applicable only for
outbound integrations which use "Modified Since or Modified/Effective since" Time-based filters.
• As a manager, you can use the Delegate 1 and Delegate 2 relationship roles to assign permissions to up to two individuals,
allowing them to act as your delegates. The delegate users, you assign, will have access to your direct and indirect reports and can
perform tasks that have been permissioned to you, while acting as your delegates. You can assign up to two delegates per manager and
each delegate can be given separate tasks or permissions to cover different functional areas. Please note, delegates will not have access
to the delegators data.

• As an administrator, you can now upload company documents and make them visible to all users on their home page. You can
upload a document on the Manage Documents page and assign it to one of the default document categories (Benefits, Policy, or Images)
or assign it to a custom category that you've created. By default, all documents uploaded in this way are visible to all users on a new
Company Documents tile on the home page, in the My Info section. As an administrator, if you don't have any company documents
uploaded yet or you don't want to make them visible yet, you may want to use the Manage Home Page tool to remove the Company
Documents tile from the home page until you're ready.
