Code-based ASCE 7-05/10
approach integrates over
fifty years of wind tunnel
data.
Smart Component
Criteria
Premium components such
as HDG structural &
fasteners, polymeric
bearings, & industrial AC
motor equate to low
maintenance requirements.
Low Profile
The Axone’s single-
portrait module
configuration with shorter
rows reduce drive arm
torsion.
Centralized Motor
Architecture
Linear, pendulum-style
driveline and just 2 - 3
motors per MWp means
virtually no motor operation
& maintenance costs.
Industrial Controller
Off-the-shelf industrial
controller components
include Siemens PLC, VFD,
plug-and-play with quick
disconnects, and touchscreen
interface.
Steadier Uptime
Tracker designed for 90mph
at 45º without relying on
stow, resulting in higher
overall solar energy
generation due to minimal
downtime.
Backtracking
On-board algorithm adjusts
module positions during
periods of low solar height,
lessening the effect of
shadows on solar cells.
Practical Panel
Attachment
PV modules are directly
attached to rigid steel panel
rails, eliminating vibratory/
thermal expansion and over-
torquing risks associated with
aluminum sandwich clamps.
No Maintenance
Bearings
Self-lubricating, UV-
protected polymeric
bearings allow for grade and
foundation plumb tolerance,
and long term serviceability.

29
PVH collaborates with its clients to come up with the most ideal
solution for their projects, providing value-added services from the
beginning of the project through commissioning.
These standard services can include:
• Tracker layout specific to site.
• Geotechnical review and foundation design.
• Permitting support.
• Comprehensive installation manual and other related
construction documentation.
• On-site construction and commissioning support, including
training of EPC construction crews and quality assurance.

31. TURNKEY BUILD & DELIVERY
PVH can be one point of contact for entire tracker deliverable.
31
In today’s utility-scale marketplace, mitigating project risk is a primary
objective of many Developers and EPC companies. For this reason, PVH
offers an optional “turnkey” tracker installation as a value-added service.
Because PVH was founded by construction industry, EPC, and solar
professionals and is not “just” a steel fabricator, this differentiation makes
for smooth PV structure installation, reducing project risk and
uncertainty.
PVH’s optional installation package of value-added services typically
includes:
• Unloading and material sorting & distribution.
• Vertical post placement, including survey, pre-drilling holes, sand or
aggregate filling, drive-in post and alignment.
• Assembly of tracker or PV mounting structure.
• Module installation (mechanical only).
• Motor foundations, including survey, excavation and backfilling,
reinforcement, and concrete placement.
• Motor installation and alignment.
32. VERIFIED STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
PVH’s solution is adapted to local conditions and client requirement via third-party engineering.
32
In the USA, PVH partners with
ZFA Structural Engineers in San
Francisco, California.
Elsewhere, PVH utilizes the
services of Atos’ Competency
Center for Mechanical
Engineering in Madrid, Spain.
Based on years of global construction and solar experience, PVH designs
optimized solar solutions that are robust, cost effective, and easy-to-build.
From the start, PVH’s structures are designed to the prescriptive
requirements of the 2009 International Building Code (25-year structural
design life). Every component in the structural system is designed to resist
code-prescribed wind pressures calculated from ASCE 7-05 “Minimum
Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures” (referenced by the 2009
IBC).
Because each project is unique, PVH relies on external third-party
engineering firms in order to adapt each structure to local codes and
norms, in addition to individual project requirements including electrical
configuration, geotechnical and topographical studies, seismic ratings, etc.
There are four main focuses with specific norms that have to be met to
install the tracker in the corresponding country:
1. USA: ASCE 7-10 & AISI-S100.
2. Europe: Eurocode.
3. South Africa: SANS 10160 & AS 4100.
4. Australia: AS/NZS 1170 & AS 4100.
33. MANUFACTURING & SUPPLY CHAIN
PVH ensures its competitive position by controlling its own fabrication.
33
PVH’s metal works is located in the main industrial sector of Cheste
(Valencia), Spain, only 800m from a major galvanizer, and about 30km
from the international cargo Port of Valencia. PVH’s industrial facility of
approximately 4.200m2 contains state-of-the-art equipment used for
transforming high grade steel into PVH’s structural components.
Afterwards, the material is sent to a major galvanizer only 800m away,
then on to the Port of Valencia.
By having its own metal transformation facility equipped with modern,
labor-saving tools allows PVH to be highly competitive, in addition to
allowing for tighter quality control, reduced manufacturing time, and
greater control of timeframes.
PVH is certified by the European Quality Assurance for the UNE-EN-ISO
9001:2008 and the UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2004 as the Quality Management
System and the Environmental Management System.
Nevertheless, for some projects it may make sense to manufacture
locally, such as those cases where local content is required. PVH’s supply
and manufacturing chain is flexible, and can adapt to contract
manufacturing via third-party fabricators and suppliers.
34. LOGISTICS
PVH supervises all logistics to ensure timely delivery.
34
Today, large utility-scale solar projects are being devoloped in countries
worldwide which means that massive deliveries of equipment must be
shipped and delivered in an orderly and timely fashion. In the case of
trackers and racking, for very large projects perhaps hundreds of 20- and
40-foot containers, each weighing up to 20Tn, must arrive in a rolling,
“just-in-time” basis so that work crews have a steady flow of components
which must be installed during the months of work required to build out
the solar plant.
PVH has dedicated professionals which work directly with leading global
shippers in order to provide the best service in the most cost effective
manner. During delivery, which can take many months, PVH supervises all
aspects of each shipment during its journey from manufacturing to the
jobsite, assuring timely deliveries.
