The document discusses the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone (KPSEZ) in Myanmar. It notes that the KPSEZ is located on Ramree Island and includes an oil and gas terminal, pipeline, container port, and power plant. Concerns raised include a lack of transparency in the bidding process, inadequate consultation and compensation for the 20,000 people displaced, and potential environmental and social impacts including damage to coral reefs and increased tensions between local communities and foreign workers. Advocacy groups like Oxfam and the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar have urged for more strategic planning, assessments, and benefits for local communities from the KPSEZ's development.

Forest degrade actors analysis case of Vietnam PVDungDung Pham Van
This document summarizes the causes and results of forest degradation in Vietnam by analyzing different actors and their interests. It discusses Vietnam's history of forestland management from independence to recent reforms. A case study of Que Phong district shows how forestland has shifted from traditional ownership to state control and more recently to households and communities through land allocation policies. However, problems remain from the large areas still managed by state actors and a lack of formal recognition of community forest rights. The document recommends greater participation of local communities in forest management and a focus on local livelihoods over commercial interests.
Environmental Politics: Perspectives from the SouthDung Pham Van
This document summarizes several perspectives on environmental politics and movements in developing countries from the global South. It discusses examples of grassroots environmentalism in countries like Malaysia, India, Thailand, Nigeria, and Kenya. It then analyzes similarities and differences between environmental struggles in India and Brazil, noting causes like logging, dams, and lack of rights over natural resources. The document also compares movements like Chipko in India and Chico in Brazil. Finally, it discusses issues like unequal trade relations regarding toxic pesticide dumping from North to South, and how subaltern publics and non-cooperation between North and South can influence international environmental negotiations.

This document outlines a research plan to study community forest management in the Hanh Dich commune of Vietnam. The study will examine (1) how the Thai people have historically managed local forests and lands, and (2) how they have responded to outside interventions. The researcher will interview local elders and observe forest activities. Historical data and literature on the Thai ethnic group will also be analyzed. The study aims to provide insights from the community perspective on forest management and development approaches. Fieldwork will take place from April to July 2014, with the written case study to be completed by the end of December 2014.
This document discusses the applicability of the Western liberal model of ethnic minority rights in Laos. It analyzes Laos based on five factors identified by Kymlicka as preconditions for the Western model: 1) Demography - Laos has experienced emigration rather than increased minority populations. Official census data does not accurately reflect ethnic self-identification. 2) Rights-consciousness - Ethnic minorities face barriers to equal political participation and their cultures are not respected. 3) Democracy - Laos is a totalitarian state that bans opposition and ignores minority representation. 4) Desecuritization - The government promotes an ethnic Lao identity over minority cultures. 5) Liberal consensus - Individual freedoms are not respected and the state dis
1. Laos has been inhabited for thousands of years by various ethnic groups including the ancestors of the modern Lao Loum, Lao Theung, and Lao Soung. Major kingdoms formed beginning in the 14th century, with the Kingdom of Lan Xang being the most prominent.
2. From the 19th century, Laos came under French colonial rule as part of French Indochina. After gaining independence in the 1940s, Laos was embroiled in civil war for decades. The communist Pathet Lao took over in 1975, forming the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
3. Laos is now composed of over 47 recognized ethnic groups with the Tai linguistic family being the largest
2. Đạo đức và
Đạo đức nghiên cứu (ĐĐNC)
• Durkheim: morality (đạo đức, đức hạnh): chuẩn
mực xã hội được coi là tốt và có vai trò chi phối
• Weber: ethics (đạo đức, quy định), lựa chọn cá
nhân hướng tới đức tính và lối sống tốt
• ĐĐNC nhằm chống: gian lận, giả tạo thông tin và
ăn cắp bản quyền
• ĐĐNC đề cập: tính trung thực, việc kiểm định,
tiêu chuẩn đạo đức, và quyền tác giả

4. Yêu cầu đối với nghiên cứu khoa học
• Thành thật tri thức: tìm và phản ánh sự thật khách
quan
• Cẩn thận: tránh sai sót
• Tự do tri thức: không dừng bước đi tìm sự thật

– Từ chối tham gia vào nghiên cứu;
– Rút khỏi nghiên cứu vào bất kỳ lúc nào, từ chối trả lời bất cứ câu hỏi
nào nếu không muốn;
– Từ chối ghi âm, tắt máy ghi âm bất kỳ lúc nào, và được huỷ các đoạn
băng ghi âm trước đó;
– Từ chối chụp ảnh;
– Đặt các câu hỏi về cuộc nghiên cứu bất cứ khi nào;
– Được xem báo cáo nghiên cứu.
