1) Public-private partnerships are key to building a sustainable bean seed system in Africa. Such partnerships can increase certified bean seed usage, facilitate the release and distribution of improved varieties, and boost productivity and incomes. 2) The integration of quality declared seed produced by local seed producers helped decentralize Africa's bean seed systems and make seed more accessible to smallholder farmers. 3) Examples from countries like Ethiopia, Uganda, and Kenya show that partnerships have led to rising bean production and productivity, as well as increasing farmer demand for and use of certified seed.
