French Cayenne Pepper
Spices are aromatic or pungent vegetable substance used to flavor food. Herbs are any plant with
leaves, seeds, or flavors used for flavoring food, medicine, or perfume. What makes them different
is that spices are used for color and preservation and herbs are used for flavoring and used for
medical reasons. My topic is considered a herbs because it used for medical and flavoring foods.

Is Jay Gatsby in F. Scott FitzgeraldВґs The Great Gatsby, a...
To decide whether Jay Gatsby is a good man or not, one must define what a good man really is.
Although it is an extremely vague and layered term, a good man best fits the description of a man
whose intentions are never meant to harm anyone. In addition, readers must remember that the
Gatsby in the novel is Nick Carraway s version, and that is a very biased version. Yet, based off of
the events depicted in The Great Gatsby, I believe that Jay Gatsbyis a good man. Gatsby is not
formally introduced until chapter three, and due to his initial description, readers hold him in much
higher regard than other characters in the novel. Nick introduces Gatsby in an extremely intriguing
and flattering manner, saying, He smiled understandingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Regardless of how one would go about arguing how Jay Gatsby is not a good man , he is
undeniably an embodiment of the American dream. Born James Gatz to two poor farmers in
the Midwest, Gatsby s imaginations had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The
truth was that Jay Gatsby ... sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of
God ... to this conception he was faithful to the end (98). The notion of the self made man alone
is something that is honored within American society, and therefore, Jay Gatsby is an honorable
person. Parallel to Benjamin Franklin, Gatsby envisioned the perfect man and left home with
nothing in order to become that idealistic version of himself. Gatsby s similarity to Benjamin
Franklin is highlighted by Mr. Gatz with Gatsby s childhood schedule seemingly based off of
The Way to Wealth. Yet, being an honorable person alone does not make Gatsby a good man .
What does make Gatsby a good man though, is his outstanding selflessness. Despite the
immense wealth he gains, Jay Gatsby is always trying to do things for others, such as asking
Nick on his boat, or giving a random party goer an entirely new dress after ruining their original
dress at one of Gatsby s parties. Even in the case of Gatsby doing Nick favors, Gatsby does not
expect anything in return from Nick, but he does hope for a reconnection with Daisy. Part of what
really makes Gatsby a good

Summary Of The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln
What was the most significant truth you learned from this book and what makes it so
significant? How will you apply this new knowledge to your future? Abraham Lincoln supported
the Civil war as he felt that it was necessary to prevent secession of the Southern States, even
though the states had the right to secede. He was against the institution of slavery expanding and
he grew up with a family that attended a Baptist church that opposed slavery. However, it is
uncertain as to what Lincoln s views on African Americans truly were as he appealed to his voters,
white men. The most significant truth I learned from Killing Lincoln was that there are horrible
people from all walks of life; however, blind hatred should not be condoned. Blind hatred... Show

John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincolnwhile he was unarmed and sitting next to his
wife watching a play. To most American citizens he was a crazed murderer without a
conscience, but to others, such as the countless southern sympathizers as a result of the Civil
War, he was a martyr for their cause. At the time of Lincoln s assassination the war was
essentially over, Booth killed because he and his fellow southern sympathizers were sore losers.
He did not murder to satisfy a sick perversion; he killed to atone for the sins of the union. Booth
went to church, he was well educated, he was an actor, he had charisma, all of the traits of
someone who should not have been a felon, but he was. He was not perfect, he was racist, and he
fervently supported his opinions, which is not necessarily an evil action, but with freedom comes
the potential for great actions of differing morals. He was politically motivated to assassinate
Lincoln, he was not insane. He believed that the best country in the world was the United States
before the Civil War, and like Lincoln did with his presidency and the Emancipation Proclamation,
he made great efforts to enact changes in radical ways. However, I believe that the killing of

Auditing And Auditing Essay
Introduction Employees today can see variation as an opportunity rather than a risk. Tim M. and
Timboon F., were the ones who observed that change is truly in the present business environment
and if done properly, it can aide the growth of business. When a person changes their job
responsibilities, they need to be aware of what can be considered a reasonable change in the latitude
of their position and what can constitute termination. Sensible changes are those that do not change
the essential position. Below are examples of the unfair and fair job changes: An administrative
staff member who is inquired to undertake lunch coverage of the reception duties or learn current
system could be taken to fall within the scope of an Office Assistant. Moving the same Office
Assistant into a role which contains basic of food and beverage service could constitute a
redundancy situation. Implementing changes to an employee s job description may have risks,
occurring most often when the employee claims the following: 1)Their position is redundant.
2)They have been efficiently and effectively dismissed unfairly. They have been unfavorably treated
because of a protected characteristic. Types of Auditors and Audits Auditors are categorized by the
kind of engagement. There exist external auditors, internal auditors, government auditors, forensic
auditors, public auditors, and information technology auditors. Each of the auditors has different

Effects Of Containment In The Korean War
Containment in the Korean War
With the help of militaristic and economic aid from Soviet Russia, North Korea had South Korea
cornered in the Pusan Perimeter by September of 1950 and a communist victory looked inevitable.
However, the United States ditched their policy of isolationism and joined the war effort alongside
other United Nations forces and supported South Korea. Since the North Koreans now had to send
their supplies all the way down to their soldiers in Pusan, General Douglas MacArthur took
advantage of this and instead of using ground forces to fight the North Koreans in Pusan,
MacArthur used the United States Navy to flank the supply line in the Battle of Inchon which
occurred in September of 1950. This allowed the United States to take back the capital, Seoul, for
South Korea which weakened the North Koreans on top of the blockaded supply line. After
Inchon was destroyed, United States ground forces moved upwards. On September 25th of 1950,
the North Koreans took back Seoul so the United States released an air raid on the North Koreans.
By October 7th, the Unites States Forces crossed the pre war border. The North Koreans were
pushed up close to the Chinese border when China threatened to send troops into Korea. MacArthur
had similar ideals as Senator Joseph McCarthy in that they felt that the US was being too soft on
communism and needed to do more about it (Mattingly). So when China threatened to send troops
in, MacArthur thought that China was bluffing and

Sea Otter Speech
A sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America, and is a part of the weasel family.
They range along the coast from San Mateo County, and South ward through Monterey County,
down through Santa Barbara county. Most animals don t have fat on them, unlike a sea otter
which has blubber to keep them warm, which is very thick. It keeps the otters warm in negative
degree waters. Their fur is made up of million hairs per square inch. Only way they keep their
coats waterproof, which they only do by hours of cleaning and grooming. Sea otters spend most
of their lives cleaning their fur to stay waterproof and warm. Most sea otters eat up to a quarter
of their weight every day. Sea otters also may hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the
top to eat its food on its chest, and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams,
crayfish, and frogs. Most otters hunt by detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only
last about 15 20 years for females and 10 15 for males. Male otters weigh up to 44 99 pounds and
females weigh about 31 73 pounds. Female otters normally have their first pup when they are
about the age of four to five. Their pregnancies last for about 4 5 months. Their babies are called
pups. The pups are born anytime of the year, except the California sea otters are born normally
through January and March. When the pups are born they weigh about five pounds. In Alaska they
are born in the summer and not the winter.

The Rise Of Interwar Fascism
Did the rise of interwar fascism have more to do with the personalities of the leaders or the
historical circumstances of the 1920s and the 1930s?
Adolf Hitler s fascist Nazi party is one of the most resounding memories of the 20th Century.
Nazi symbols still conjure images of horror and evil over 70 years after they spread across
Europe. In the 1928 German Federal election the Nazi s polled 810,127 votes, just 2.6% of the total
votes. By the 1932 election this number had jumped sharply to 13,765,781 votes, 37.3% of the
national vote. It was off this platform that he successfully lobbied the German President, Paul Von
Hindenburg, to make him chancellor of Germany. The question is, what caused this surge in Nazi
support? And why did a democratically elected president hand over power to a clearly
authoritarian man? The subject is complex and controversial. The collapse of the economy in
1929 lead to years of poverty in Germany. The failure of democracy to provide a solution lead to
people looking elsewhere for a solution. The Nazi s capitalized on this through effective election
campaigns. The undertaker of democracy was Hindenburg, whose decisions led to its
dismantlement. It was the combination of these political, economic and electoral factors that lead
to rise of fascism in interwar Germany.

Effects Of The Protestant Reformation
An international phenomenon, the Protestant Reformation brought many cultural changes, as well
as new ideas, ideologies, and philosophies. The first major developments were educational and
economic growths. Before the Reformation, books were hard to come by because each had to be
handwritten. However, with the invention of the printing press, books were made more available,
thus spreading ideas to more people, including the lower class. The overall effect being the dawn
of a new cultural age that creates Modern Europe.
The Protestant Reformation began in the University of Wittenberg with Martin Luther drafting the
Ninety Five Theses in preparation for a public disputation. Luther taught that salvation could be

Jfk, By John Fitzgerald Kennedy
On the cold blustery snow covered day of January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK)
participated in the 44th presidential inauguration, when he was sworn in as the 35th President of
The United States of America. The inauguration was almost canceled, as a result of the nor
easter, which pummeled the nation s capital hours before. In order for the inauguration to
proceed as planned, The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, thousands of D.C. employees and almost
1,700 boy scouts worked feverously to clear the area and streets of snow that finished falling just
hours before the occasion. The event went on as planned at the State Capital in front of an
enormous crowd of family, friends, famous people and supporters of JFK. Among the most notable
in attendance was JFK s wife Jackie, his mother Rose, Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight
D. Eisenhower and 86 year old poet Robert Frost who recited poems. This was also the first time
the presidential inauguration was televised in color. With extremely unbearable weather, and a Nor
easter moving out of the area just hours before, a massive crowd gathered at the State Capital to
participate witnessing history. A crowd, full of several emotions: including excitement, fear, and
uncertainty surrounding the future and safety, not only for their great nation, but similarly the
world. The Cold Warwas progressing and multiple countries were rearing their ugly head, showing
how cowardly and evil the human race can be. Spectators were

Death Of A Salesman Guidance
Throughout our childhood and adolescent years, we rely on the influences that we receive from
the outside world to help guide our underdeveloped virtues and sense of morality towards
maturity, and through these teachings, we make progress in establishing the contours of who we
are as individuals; however, not everyone will receive guidance that is beneficial to his or her
well being, for many of the people that are relied upon for this much needed wisdom are unable to

(Cowboys) One of the most powerful marketing strategies used by the Dallas Cowboys occurred in
1995, when owner Jerry Jones entered into multi million dollar sponsorship agreements with
American Express, Pepsi and Nike through Texas Stadium Corporation. Later that year, Jones was
served with a $300 million lawsuit filed by NFL Properties. The lawsuit claims included violations
of the Lanham Act, breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith, unjust
enrichment, and tortious interference with contractual rights (Jessop, 2013). Jones filed a motion to
dismiss. The motion was granted in part. Jones then filed a $750 million antitrust lawsuit against
the league. This legal action put the Cowboys in position to become the most valuable NFL
franchise. Jones antitrust lawsuit forced the NFL to settle (Jessop, 2013). The settlement agreement

Adventures of Death Valley National Park
This summer, Alice decided that she was going to go to Death Valley National Park in
California. There was only one problem. When Alice asked her parents if she could go, they said
no. Alice could only go if she could find at least two friends to go with her. Alice asked her two
best friends, Lea and Rachel. They said yes! Alice was so excited, This is going to be the best
summer ever!
The three girls met up together at Alice s house to discuss what they were going to need to pack.
What is the weather like so I know what to pack, Rachel questioned Alice? Well, since the
climate is arid and hot, with dry air masses trapped in the valley because there are mountains on
both sides, you would probably need shorts and a tank top to keep cool. Probably, you will need
shorts, tank tops, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and sunglasses, Alice replied. A hat too, Lea inquired?
Alice answered, Yes. Alice s friends didn t really know what Death Valleywas or why it was called
Death Valley so she gave a little detail about it. Death Valley is the lowest point on the
contiguous U.S, which is 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is located near the highest point
on the contiguous U.S., which is about 76 miles away. On February 11, 1933, President Herbert
Hoover made Death Valley a national monument and in 1944 Death Valley was re designated as a
national park, Alice told the girls. After the girls finished packing, they went to sleep and the next
day, they drove to

Dynamic Characterism In The Keeper Of The Virgins
In The Keeper of the Virgins, Hanan Al Shaykh creates a dynamic character of the dwarf. While in
the beginning of the story, the dwarf was an outcast from society and his family when he enters the
convent he gains acceptance. His family was embarrassed by him, however, after he enters the
convent, they begin to worry about him and his well being. Inside the convent walls, he finds a
divine and an overwhelming acceptance, missing in the outside world and his family. In the
convent he receives unconditional love from the nuns, unlike the hate and darkness outside.
In The House Behind, Lydia Davis establishes a divide between social classes through the creation
of the front house and the back house. Their separation is meaningful in that it represents the divide
in society between the rich and the poor. It represents the difference in power. The setting does not
change in the story, however the people s attitudes do. There s an increase in uneasiness from the
house in front after the murder. Those in the house behind became ashamed by the actions of their
neighbor. Through the association between front and superior there is an indirect connection
established. The courtyard connects the two houses as a common ground for interaction, however,
it seems to instead serve as a separator between the two.
In Wilderness Tips, Margaret Atwood writes with a third person omniscient point of view. This
allows the reader to understand all character s actions and emotions without a bias towards any one
main character. Throughout the short story the point of view remains constant. By choosing this
point of view, Atwood establishes each character (George, Portia, Prue, Pamela, and Roland),
allowing the reader to understand the story through an unbiased perspective. The reader is able to
establish their own opinion due to the lack of influence from the narrator on character bias. By
focusing the narration on Portia s weakness towards George s consistent infidelity, she s able to
establish the characterization until her breaking point, suicide. Similarly, in the narration about
George the reader gains a deeper understanding into his persona.
In The First Day, Edward P. Jones follows a largely chronological method of

Persuasive Essay On National Security
Today, Canadian s lives today are as translucent as ever. Most organizations especially the
government constantly watches each and every one of our moves. From driving to the shopping
mall to withdrawing money from the ATM machine, Canadians are being watched constantly. With
Canada s commitment to advance technology and infrastructure in the 1960s, government
surveillanceis much easier and much more prevalent than it was hundreds of years ago. Even as
early as 1940s, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics used punch cards and machines to determine who
is available for conscription in the military. Several ethnicity groups such as the Germans, the
Italians, the Japanese, the Chinese and the Indians were removed from the military. Today, with the
advancement of information technology such as the internet and high speed securitycameras, access
to personal information by the government has never been much easier. For instance, airport
security now uses finger printing, cameras, and electronic devices in passports that did not exist
in the 1990s. For the majority of Canadians, this is a concern because it goes directly against their
rights to freedom and privacy. For example, more than half of Canadians in 2012 said that they are
against policeand intelligence services acquiring information on Canadians on social media sites.
Two third of Canadians in the same year did not agree to the statement police and intelligence
agencies should have more powers to ensure security even if

Rising Cost Of Pharmacists
A pharmacist is a healthcare professional whose main job is to implement drug therapy, know all
about pharmaceutical drugs and help improve patient s health. Everyday pharmacists go through
some of the worst problems in the medical field. They have to interact with numerous amounts of
patients, doctors and insurance companies every day. The biggest problem that pharmacists have to
deal with is the rising cost of pharmaceutical drugs. With the continuous rise of pharmaceutical
drugs it not only hurts the pharmacistbut also the patient that they are serving. Pharmacists can
feel helpless when they tell a patient that their insurance no longer covers the medication they

producers can target, there is always a show to watch. In western cultures the hours spent watching
television has drastically increased with the television market opens up the potential of more
variety. This escalation of televisionattraction has affected the way young people interact with
each other. Television has transformed the concepts of identity and commonalities among peers.
To understand whether this transformation is a good or bad, a study was done looking at the
effects watching one show has on a group of people. The study included five people, three
females, and two males, all of whom are currently watching The Vampire Dairies (TVD) based
on the novels by L. J. Smith, starring Ian Somerhalder, Paul Welsey, and Nina Dobrev. Two
females who had been watching it in the past but have sense ceased were also included in this
study, in order to get the fuller picture. The accounts all shared how the experience of watching
television among young adults at the Canadian Mennonite University has had a positive impact on
their friendships. The first major theme I found during this study was the perception everyone had
about what television meant to him or her and how that reflected how he or she defined
community. No matter if it was the previews that caught their attention, or he or she had free time
to spare, or him or he had heard from friends that it was a decent show, they

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Farmer
Farmer, the perfect profession?
This article will provide information of what being a farmer is, what is needed to become one, a
common routine and some positive and negative facts of this profession.
A farmer is a person who owns a farm and or takes care of it . Farmers normally perform two
kinds of professional activities: one is related with animals and the other with plants. The first one
includes all the process of breeding livestock, such as cattle, sheep, pig and goats. On the other
hand we have the work of agriculture; it consists on the growing of different kinds of plants for
human or animal consumption and products used for the development human life. Nowadays these
two activities can be performed separately, and that is why this ... Show more content on

Being in constant contact with nature is one of the most common statements made by different
farmers. Seeing a deer crossing happily through the fields is beautiful to see and it is not within
reach of other jobs. In addition to this, you are the one establishing your working hours and your
way of working it is your responsibility to choose when and how you want to work. Contrary to
popular belief, farmers are able to develop their creativity as they can try to perform new
techniques of sowing, for example, or, they can invent new devices to improve their work.
Another important aspect is that your work is going to be different through the years because
every harvest is going to be different from the previous one. Becoming a farmer will teach a lot of
new things, not only about plants and crops, but also you are likely to become a weather forecast.
For example if the clouds of the sky look like stone pavement it is very possible that the next day is
going to rain. Consuming your own harvest is one of the most rewarding experiences and the taste
of your own production is not going to taste the same as the products bought in the

Charles Dickens Issues
Charles Dickens was a champion of the abused poor on account of his repulsive experience
when he was compelled to work in a processing plant as a child.[citation needed] (His dad, John
Dickens, ceaselessly lived past his methods and in the long run went to indebted individuals jail.
Charles was compelled to leave school and started working ten hour days at Warren s Blacking
Warehouse, acquiring six shillings a week.)[citation needed] His sensitivities, in any case, lie with
the progressives just to a limited degree; he censures the crowd franticness which soon sets in. At
the point when lunatics and ladies slaughter eleven hundred prisoners in one night and hustle back
to hone their weapons on the grindstone, they show eyes which any unbrutalized viewer would
have given a quarter century life, to petrify with an all around coordinated firearm . The reader is

In any case, his notice is tended to not to the British lower classes, but rather to the privileged.
He more than once utilizes the similitude of sowing and procuring; if the gentry keeps on

unrest in time. The lower classes don t have any organization in this similitude: they essentially
respond to the conduct of the gentry. In this sense it can be said that while Dickens sympathizes
with poor people, he relates to the rich: they are the book s group of onlookers, its us and not its

Tim Wu s Summary
Tim Wu is the writer of The Master Switch in which he describes a systematic cycle that
technology companies go through from when they first start to what they are now. This process
starts with a fresh company who remains in a free and open state, but as the government becomes
more involved in the companies activities, they start to be more government controlled. Then for
the company to remain in power over their respective industry, they buy out smaller companies who
are trying to create competition. This Cycle of being free changing to government control then
monopolization is what Tim Wu considers the Cycle. Although this idea has been seen for
companies such as AT T, Tim Wu argues that the same process will go forth with the Internet

Young People Coming Of Age
In many ways, coming of age today is much the same as it was in the 1950s and 60s. Young
people in the Valley grapple with most of the same issues we older folks did. But kids of
previous generations were not subjected to many of the issues they are now, and the environment
in which they grow up is quite different. The bicycle as a mode of transportation for kids has
largely been replaced by Mom carting them everywhere. Free time to play outdoors has been
replaced by organized everything. Working to earn what you need or want has been replaced by
fundraising. And as always, there is pressure to conform to whatever the current social norms are.

Don t get me wrong, it s awesome that as kids we are pushed to work hard and that we are

Also, growing up here gives you a relatively naive view on the world. We live in a very rich and
privileged area. We have no idea what the real world is like. I wasn t even going to mention it
because it seemed so normal to me, but the reality is, most people do not have the newest iPhones

There is a huge divide between the wealthy and the working class, and the area is extremely

My Life Flight Nurse Is Not A Smoke Jumper
As we grow up, we change our careers at least once, maybe twice or even three times before we
realize what we want to be. When I was little, I was fascinated with being a speech and language
pathologist but then I grew a little taller and discovered smoke jumping. And up until my senior
year in high school I wanted to be a smoke jumper. But by the end of my senior year, I finally found
my career; a life flight nurse. Having a strict schedule, great job security, being people oriented,
and having an independent job are the things I look for most when I m looking at career options. I
wanta schedule where I can easily have an idea of what hours I will be working before the schedule
is printed. I am also looking for great job security in the fact that if I am going to be going to
school, I want to be able to do it once and be very good at it. I don t want to have to switch through
jobs because my current career isn t holding out based on the world. I like helping people and I
want to be able to save the ones I can. I am a very independent person and I would like to do a
job where I have my own independent time where I can take control and learn from my own
mistakes, but because I am also people oriented, I also would like to have a select few co works
that I can touch base with to make sure I am on the right track with my thinking.

Affirmative Action Implications
Political Implications
As would be expected, those who support affirmative action are typically women, people of color,
Hispanics and/or Democrats, while those who oppose affirmative action are typically men, whites,
and/or Republican, as demonstrated by the graphs below.
It s clear that those who benefit from affirmative action tend to support it, and those who do not
benefit or feel that it discriminates against them are against it (though this is not always the case).
Supporters of affirmative action claim that it is the best way to increase diversity in schools and
workplaces. Diversity is seen as important because it brings different thoughts, ideas and viewpoints

In 2005, Richard H. Sander, a law professor at U.C.L.A., published an important article in the

elite school on partly nonacademic grounds is likely to struggle more and contended that if the
struggling leads to lower grades and less learning, then a variety of bad outcomes may result:
higher attrition rates, lower pass rates on the bar, problems in the job market. A separate study
showed that when the top black students in the country were admitted into the top colleges in the

Bless Me, Ultima By Rudolfo Anaya
When we think of childhood we think of blissful, exhilarating moments, like being pushed on a
swing higher and higher feeling as if you could stretch your hand and grasp the clouds, as you
experience the cooling air of a hot summer day on your blushed face, as you yelped to be pushed
further into the clouds. We do not think of the anguish and questions that the sight of deathbrings.
But that s exactly what happens to six year old Antonio Marez in the novel Bless Me, Ultima by
Rudolfo Anaya. When young Antonio witnesses the death of a local War Veteran, a family friend,
and a classmate, it leaves him with transforming effects, prompting him to questiondeath, sin,
morality, and in the end leading him to be ambivalent towards his Catholic beliefs. Through every
mortifying act that he witnesses, he has the guidance of Ultima, an elderly curandera, healer, who
uses her wisdom to lead Antonio to answer his own questions.
Antonio s questions about good vs evil begin when he first foreshadows that his innocence and
peace would be shattered and everything in his life would change forever. He foresees a new
period of difficulty and conflict that parallels his transition away from childish innocence and
towards becoming a man of learning. But the innocence which our isolation sheltered could not
last forever, and the affairs of the town began to reach across our bridge and enter my life. (15).

The Mood For Love, Urban Space, And Post Modernity
In The Mood For Love, Urban Space, and Post Modernity Wong Kar Wai s Fa Yeung Nin Wa
(2000), translated to In The Mood For Love, is an opening to the new millennium and homage to
past genres of filmmaking. Deeply rooted in emotion and nostalgia, In The Mood For Love reads
as a waltz throughout the entirety of the film. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan
moves to the city with his wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives
in his apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his
loneliness and marital strife. Ironically, Ms. Chan s husband is also often away from business, and
both realize their partners are having an affair with their respective spouses.
Su and Chow begin a fantasy relationship with one another, pretending to be each other s spouse
reenacting how their partners could have gotten together. The protagonists constantly push each
other s boundaries of propriety; their combined desire for affection is an extension of the
abandonment they feel from their spouses. Simultaneously a simulacrum of love and a reflection of
genuine yearning, they imitate a relationship and inevitably fall for one another, but fear that they ll
stoop to the infidelity of their partners. Wong Kar Wai s film is a statement about individual
realities and how people reflect on an unattainable past, as well as an exploration of physical and
emotional confinement that accompany abandonment. In The Mood For Love is a

Examples Of Aphrodite In The Odyssey

and subdues the tribes of mortal men and birds that fly in air and all the many creatures that the
dry land rears, and all that the sea: all these love the deeds of rich crowned Cytherea.
(Hom.Hym.5.5) Aphrodite was beautiful. She was often depicted with flowers and vegetation
surrounding her golden aura, representing her connection with fertility. According to the poet
Hesiod, Aphrodite was one of the twelve Olympians. The literal meaning of her name is foam
born, as she was born from the sea foam that surrounded the immortal flesh, which was the result
of the castration of Kronos (Theogony 190). That explains why the Renaissance artist Botticelli
depicted her on a giant scallop shell. The Theogony is just one explanation of her creation, which
she was born from Kronos alone, and not from a sexual union. As a result she is characterized as
the goddess of pure love that has its end not [at] physical satisfaction but [at] spiritual gratification
(CCM). In contrast to the Theogyny s explanation, Homer, who is most famous for the Odyssey
and Iliad, tells of her birth as the result of the relations between Zeusand Dione; thus connecting her
as the goddess of sex and procreator of children, whose concerns are of the body and not of the
mind, the spirit or the soul (CCM) . These different myths of her creation are just the beginning of

In the books Candide, The Glass Menagerie, Their Eyes were Watching God, and My Name is
Asher Lev written by Voltaire, Tennessee Williams, Zora Neale Hurston, and Chaim Potok, they
are all discernibly different stories, yet they all appear to share the common theme of perseverance
in varying degrees to find that happiness is not always awaiting them. I have found that the various
symbolic language combined with each author s different style of writing not only makes each
story unique, but they also affect each reader s perceptions.
When I had finished reading each book once, each story appeared to have such contrasting
meanings. For example, Candide initially gave me the impression that his innocence dwindles
consistently as he experiences countless people who have suffered outrageous hardships,
deceptions, and the people who dole out these miseries. The Glass Menagerie was a bit complex to
understand because I was not accustomed to reading books in play format, but I thought that it was

that being a teenager along with my brother, we have disagreements on almost everything and what

So they are loyal. This animal is known for scaring off many predators including grizzlies,
wolves, and the list goes on. This is just to show their claws are pretty sharp. Many people try to

Analysis Of Annabel Lee s A Kingdom By The Sea
The turn of the nineteenth century for the newly formed United States was a time of nervous
apprehension running alongside a giddy sense of adventure. The colonist had shirked the cloak of
Britain and was a fledgling country of their own, similar to a young adult trying to figure out their
way after leaving home. Nothing spoke of this like the Romantic writings in the early nineteenth
century. The works tended to have a lot of good vs. evil and oppressor vs. oppressed. They tended
to be optimistic, very democratic in their views, anti slavery, some even dipped into the early
women s rights movement. The romantics were rebels with a cause, nonconforming individuals
that think and stay true to how they see themselves. Along with the lofty language, the authors
tended to write their prose they also managed to keep the details of their writings very generic.
Such as Edgar Allen Poe, with his location description in Annabel Lee: In a kingdom by the sea.
(Poe) The Romantic author also liked being a master of his or her fate.
The Realist was different from the Romantic in as many areas. The Realist time was after the Civil
War, many of them lived through the carnage, and it affected their views of life and the world.
Realist writings usually consisted of a distinct time and place, unlike the Romantics generalizations.

River delta during a particular time in history, his childhood.

The novel Crime and Punishment written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky explores the idea that sin will
continually erode your soul away. The main protagonists are a murderer named Rodion
Romanovich Raskolnikov, and the girl he falls in love with, Sonia Semyonovna Marmeladov.
Both Sonia and Rodion lead very different lives; it is evident how convictions and beliefs guide
the way these two characters live their lives. Sonia believes in the New Testament, and reads it
regularly, and also believes that through faith comes death to the old self, and eternal life through
Christ. Sonia s christian convictions affect her love for people, her self sacrifice, and her firm
foundation in Christ. Sonia is devoted to people by faithfully loving them despite their brokenness.

Testing the question 1
The researchers, wanting to answer the question: Is there any correlation of motivation and
creativity so they came up with some tests to prove if their hypothesis was right. They first came
up with a pre test that asked over 151 college students who were volunteers, below the graduate
level questions related to how they formulate ideas pertaining to solving answers to their
everyday lives, along with a short consult. This is a troublesome task in itself because the person,
or persons being tested on their life questions could feel too embarrassed to answer the questions
honestly, and falsify their answer making it harder to formulate their research. Also, by have an

account of what has been going on during the assessment combining it all together whether the task
was hard, easy, or the participant was just not really interested. Another way that a test questioner
can fail to gather the best information is if the questions are not set up in categories to more
formulate the hypothesis. Asking questions in related areas can easily formulate the answers more

In Vitro-Farming Pros And Cons
With global meat production having tripled in the last three decades and estimated to double
current levels by 2050, the practice of factory farming is an increasingly urgent problem for the
environment, human health, and nonhuman animals (Hyner). As the factory farming of meat will
continue to increase due to the increasing per capita global meatconsumption and population
growth, other options must be considered so further harm done by the industry may be prevented.
In vitro meat production is a strong, sustainable alternative to factory farming, because it requires
less resources, it is more beneficial to environmental health and human health, and avoids ethical
issue found in traditional animal husbandry. Factory farming creates an enormous volume of meat

conventional farming practices, and with the controlled cell growth environment, it is more reliable

Do You Really Want to Wait Until You are 18 to Get your...
Do you really want to wait until your 18 to get your driver s license? There are some people that
think you should wait until your 18 to drive, while on the other hand there are people who think
the opposite of that. If the driving age was increased teenagers would not have transportation to
their jobs. Parents would have to take their children to their jobs, when it should be the teenager
s responsibility to drive themselves to their jobs. Having the driving age increased would mean
less responsibility put onto the shoulders of teens. They would have to grow up slower, and
learn to become mature at a older age. By learning to drive at 16, it teaches you the responsibility
of being a good driver. Even if the driving age was increased... Show more content on

So for the fact they need their license, and a car that they can drive. If the state you live in allows
teens to drive at sixteen why not let them have that responsibility. Having the driving age stay
the same means that teens would have to mature faster. They would have to grow up and learn to
be in control of what they are doing while driving. Teenagers would have to grow up faster and
learn to be a good driver. Knowing that anything can happen at any time and that they have to be
aware of everything around them at all times. Not increasing the driving age would also mean that
teenagers would get more experience before hitting adulthood. They would have the chance of
learning to drive two extra years before becoming a legal adult. Not having that two extra years
could affect the way our roads would be in the future. There could be more accidents if they did
raise the driving age for the fact that when you become an adult you most likely move away, and
won t have your parents there to teach you how to drive. When your eighteen you not only will
move away and not have your parents as close to you as they were before. Either you have to go
back to learn to drive from your parents or you learn on your own. Whichever way you choose will
be more difficult than just getting your license at the age of

Zora Neale Hurston Identity
During the time of Zora Neale Hurston, the cultural and social movement of the Harlem
Renaissance inspired a new black cultural identity. The Harlem Renaissance was a blossoming of
African American culture, particularly in the creative arts, and the most influential movement in
African American literary history during the early twentieth century (Hutchinson). During this
time, blacks were on a journey of self discovery, remaking their collective image to define the New
Negro. Black female writers of this time, such as Zora Neale Hurston, wrote about the everyday
reality and struggles that average black women endured and conquered in order to move away
from Old Negro ideas. Hurston believed the past image of the black individual to be degrading...

Grandmother chose. By employing this symbol of oppression in Janie s early life, Hurston

Research Paper On Alzheimer s Disease
Alzheimer s disease Alzheimer s disease is a form of dementia. It is a brain disease that slowly
causes memory loss. It causes a loss of a person s reasoning skills and their thinking skills.
People with this disease used to be called senile. There are no words to explain how watching a
person with this disease just drifts away. Grief stricken, morbid, somber, or heartbroken are some
of the words that only come close to explaining how it feels to watch a person with Alzheimer s
disease slip away from you. It is even more heart breaking to watch how they know they are

War Takes Over Everything in Walt Whitmanв
Ђ™s Poem, Drum
Taps
The overall theme in Walt Whitman s Drum Taps is about the way war consumes everything and
monopolizes every facet of life; particularly the land the war is fought on. When analyzing the
poem, the first stanza talks about the movement of war from the farms, the second stanza talks
about the progression of warfrom the farm to the city. In stanza three this journey continues through
the battlefield, through the halls of power and finally into the homes, moving from the public to
private spheres of life. Throughout the entire poem there is an emphasized pulse of drums that
beats within the lines. This pulse of drums resonates throughout the entire poem and prompts me to
wonder how Whitman intended to utilize this mechanism. Furthermore, I want to uncover if the
sounds of these drums is symbolic in some way, and if they are, then I wonder if this symbolism
represents a positive view or negative view on war.
My first interpretation is that these drums represent Whitman s negative perspective on war. I feel
that the use of the pulse of drums throughout the poem acts as a mechanism that Whitman uses in
order to discourage war. I feel that these sounds are symbolic of the dire news at the time that
consisted of the battles. It seems that Whitman is addressing this pulse of drums in attempt to
highlight the effect this war will have on the country. In this poem, I see the clear cry for battle as a
cry by someone who is naГЇve and does not yet know what the ultimate cost of war

A source, written by Greve and Schmitt, studied two children that were both diagnosed with spastic

These authors are credible because they work in the Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center

published in the peer reviewed journal Pediatric Physical Therapy. The introduction discusses the
idea that intensive bursts of therapy are more effective than, for example, lower intensity therapy

their results were measured using criteria specific to their needs. Different health professionals

Paul Laurence Dunbar We Wear Mask
What does it mean to be a good poet? Who is a good poet? There is only one answer to these
questions, and the answer is that a good poet is someone who can bring hidden and exciting
emotions through their work and can make the readers feel exactly what they were trying to convey
through words. Paul Laurence Dunbar is the best African American poet of the 19th century and
early 20th century. His work leaves behind a legacy. Especially the poem We Wear Mask . The
poem strongly conveys the struggle, the inner experience, and the humiliation of the African
American community.

He suggests that they believed the people with power should see what they want them to see. They
never expressed their true feelings. From the beginning, African Americans have been represented
in a false way to the society. As Daly Guilamo emphasizes in his article Paul Laurence Dunbar and
Juan Bosch Converse on Racial Violence: Writing Justice and Injustice that Paul Laurence Dunbar
uses the guise of white American guilt to portray lynching as a racist tradition that is outdated and
incompatible with modernism. (p. 22). Daly Guilamo article emphasizes about how people should
have given them the respect they deserved even as slaves. Moreover, Dunbar knew that words are
more powerful than any other thing in this world. Just as Joanne Gabbin, states in his article
Intimate Intercessions in the Poetry of Paul Laurence Dunbar that the Biblical figure who helped
to establish the Christian church, Dunbar took seriously his parents charge to be a great man who
would carry the word to his people (p. 227). We wear the mask expresses every bit of expression
that African Americans, slaves have felt. It contributes to cultural ideas and expectations to the
society in the form of expression. It promotes the values of African Americans having rights to
freely express themselves, but they couldn t. It supports the idea that slaves were hiding their
emotions because they felt it was the best way to get away from the

Essay On Standard Oil
Standard Oil began as an Ohio partnership incorporated in 1870 by John D. Rockefeller. Using
innovative business tactics, it absorbed or destroyed most of its competition in Cleveland in less
than two months.
Especially in early years, John D. Rockefeller was the single most important figure in shaping the
new oil industry. He distributed power and the tasks of policy formation to a system of committees,
but always remained the largest shareholder.
In response to state laws trying to limit the scale of companies, Rockefeller and his associates
developed innovative ways of organizing their rapidly growing company. On January 2, 1882, they
combined their disparate companies, spread across dozens of states, under a single group of
trustees. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The state of Ohio successfully sued Standard, compelling the dissolution of the trust in 1892. But
Standard simply separated Standard Oil of Ohio and kept control of it. Eventually, the state of New
Jersey changed its incorporation laws to allow a company to hold shares in other companies in
any state. So, in 1899, the Standard Oil Trust, based at 26 Broadway in New York, was legally
reborn as a holding company, the Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey, which held stock in 41 other
companies, which controlled other companies, which in turn controlled yet other companies.
In 1904, Standard controlled 91 percent of production and 85 percent of final sales. Most of its
output was kerosene, of which 55 percent was exported around the world. After 1900 it did not try
to force competitors out of business by underpricing them. The federal Commissioner of
Corporations studied Standard s operations from the period of 1904 to 1906 and concluded that
beyond question... the dominant position of the Standard Oil Co. in the refining industry was due
to unfair practices .
In 1909, the US Department of Justice sued Standard under federal anti trust law, the Sherman
Antitrust Act of 1890, for sustaining a monopoly and restraining interstate commerce by:
Rebates, preferences, and other discriminatory practices in favor of the combination by railroad
companies; restraint and monopolization by control of pipe lines, and unfair practices against

To What Extent Is Csr Beneficial to a Company s Performance
To What Extent is CSR Beneficial to a Company s Performance?
Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided
into five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social
dimension, the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension
in research (Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is
classified as the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different
research studies. Some research reported positive relationship in CSR and company s performance
(Mirvis, 2012), some research found negative results (Karnani, 2010), while there are also other

In this way, those impact brought by those omitted aspects would be included in the CSR s
relationship with company s performance by mistake.
Despite the influence of omitted factors, CSR neither benefit nor harm company s performance.
For those cases reported positive relationship above, they are very likely to be the result of a good
marketing strategy and aggressive advertisement (for restaurant and airlines), successful
management (for employees willingness to work in a responsible company), an efficient R
amp;D and politic strategies (for DuPont s case), etc. However, research reaching a negative
relationship can also be blamed to other stuffs related to CSR, rather than CSR itself. For
example, the agency problem appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the
agent s personal goal, not only in CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while
measuring CSR s influence on company s performance, we should first identify or select the
dimensions of corporate social responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans,
2010). Nothing can we truly measure before a clear identification. After a clear identification, we
will be able to figure out whether it is the impact brought by CSR, and therefore eliminate the
interference from R amp;D, advertising, or political efforts, etc.

New Existing Sporting Facilities
The construction and refurbishment of the sporting facilities required for the Olympics to take

Another important aim was to ensure that the poorest neighborhoods were also profiting from
hosting the Games (French, 1997). CODA was in charge of the development of the neighborhoods
around the main Olympic venues and were identified as primary benefactors of redevelopment
(French, 1997)
A proposal by ACOG was made to restore various low income housing projects, which would then
be rented to Olympics athletes during the Summer Games (Vale, 2013). However, French (1997)
points out that unfortunately, the funds secured by CODA for urban design projects were
incomparable to the minute funds obtained to make necessary developments in low income areas.
Instead, profit orientated investors provided funding for projects like the Olympic Park.
According to French (1997), CODA raised an estimated 75 million dollars for the design of the
Olympic Park and urban planning with the help of federal programs and private foundations,
funding the redevelopment of inner city neighborhoods received less money and with the absence
/divergence of public funding, residents in low income areas reaped fewer benefits from the
Olympic Games than anticipated
Nevertheless, the redevelopment of downtown neighborhoods earned an estimated sum of 100
million dollars.

Essay Before Breakfast by Eugene O Neill
Before Breakfast
Before Breakfast is a short gloomy play by Eugene O Neill. Eugene O Neill was born in 1888 in
New York City. He is the only American dramatist to ever win the Nobel Prize for literature.
Before Breakfast is set in the Greenwich Village section of New York City, in a small one room
flat on Christopher Street. The flat consists of a kitchen and dinning area. There are only two
characters in this drama. Mrs. Roland who is the only speaking character and her husband Alfred.
Alfred s hand is seen once in the play, but not much else. This is symbolic of an absentee husband
or a non existent marriage. Although, Alfred is not seen, he contributes a great deal to the conflict.

The child, the reason the couple married, born dead. Alfred unable to sell his writings, is
depressed. His depression contributes to a self destructive lifestyle, dragging his wife along with
him. It was inevitable the marriage would fail.
Mrs. Rowland, the protagonist, is portrayed as the stereotypical nagging wife. While a flat
character, she is very realistic. Her level of diction implies her lack of education, she is also
bitter towards her husband. Her bitterness is not unfounded. Alfred is of no help, Heaven knows
I do my part and more going out sewing every day while you play the gentleman and loaf around
bar rooms with that good for nothing lot of artists from the Square (Jacobs 1211). Mrs. Rowland
s husband is adulterous and can not hold down a job. Mrs. Rowland loves her husband, although
she does not like the way he treats her. She exhibited love by continually enabling him, paying the
rent, providing food, and cleaning up after him. She regards Alfred s depression as laziness. Not
that I ve got any doubts about your being lazy enough to stay in bed forever (Jacobs 1211). After
learning Alfred s lover Helen, is pregnant, her frustration and disappointments only intensify.
Alfred the antagonist is a flat character, but also very realistic. He is the stereotypical insensitive,
substandard husband. Mrs. Rowland thought that Alfred loved her when he didn t let his father buy
her off. Alfred was suppose to be

What Is The Domino Theory Related To The Vietnam War
During World War II there was a total of about 40 days of combat in four years, whereas during
the Vietnam War there were 240 days of combat in one year. The Vietnam War was both devastating
and deceiving. America was not able to successfully save South Vietnam from communist rule, and
yet they still suffered a great amount of loss. The Vietnam War presented a plethora of issue to the
United Statesand Southeast Asia. The United States suffered a lot of casualties and the U.S. lost a
lot of money. Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos also suffered many casualties and Cambodia and Laos
were no longer peaceful. The war was deceiving because the United States government was not
completely honest about secret attacks on Laos and Cambodia. The Vietnam War should not have

President Dwight Eisenhower said, You have a row of dominoes set up; you knock over the first
one, and what will happen to the last one is that it will go over very quickly, which supports that
he firmly believed in this theory. Because of the domino theory, the United States felt it was their
duty to stop the spread of communism in Asia. So, the United States did have good intentions in
the Vietnam War, but in the end, the goal of protecting South Vietnam was not successful. The
United States, after many years of fighting, started to withdraw troops from Vietnam in June of
1969. Finally, on January 27, 1973, the United States fully withdrew from the Vietnam War. Even
though the United States withdrew before the end of the war, the damage was already gone. On

Chris Mccandless Argumentative Essay
Having to live and act a certain way towards the outside world when you feel completely
different on the inside would make one feel trapped and restricted. Restricted from being free to
be who they really are. Everyone deserves the freedom to have the opportunity to live life the

same thing? I can relate to Chris s desire to live life according to his dreams, not his parents.

American history to serve two terms in two different years in office. Cleveland was the leader of

Spanish American war in Cuba. Indeed, as a reformer his prestige was so strong that the like

which was hard for Cleveland to deal with. It ruined his Democratic Party, giving the Republicans a

  • 3. Is Jay Gatsby in F. Scott FitzgeraldВґs The Great Gatsby, a... To decide whether Jay Gatsby is a good man or not, one must define what a good man really is. Although it is an extremely vague and layered term, a good man best fits the description of a man whose intentions are never meant to harm anyone. In addition, readers must remember that the Gatsby in the novel is Nick Carraway s version, and that is a very biased version. Yet, based off of the events depicted in The Great Gatsby, I believe that Jay Gatsbyis a good man. Gatsby is not formally introduced until chapter three, and due to his initial description, readers hold him in much higher regard than other characters in the novel. Nick introduces Gatsby in an extremely intriguing and flattering manner, saying, He smiled understandingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of how one would go about arguing how Jay Gatsby is not a good man , he is undeniably an embodiment of the American dream. Born James Gatz to two poor farmers in the Midwest, Gatsby s imaginations had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The truth was that Jay Gatsby ... sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. He was a son of God ... to this conception he was faithful to the end (98). The notion of the self made man alone is something that is honored within American society, and therefore, Jay Gatsby is an honorable person. Parallel to Benjamin Franklin, Gatsby envisioned the perfect man and left home with nothing in order to become that idealistic version of himself. Gatsby s similarity to Benjamin Franklin is highlighted by Mr. Gatz with Gatsby s childhood schedule seemingly based off of The Way to Wealth. Yet, being an honorable person alone does not make Gatsby a good man . What does make Gatsby a good man though, is his outstanding selflessness. Despite the immense wealth he gains, Jay Gatsby is always trying to do things for others, such as asking Nick on his boat, or giving a random party goer an entirely new dress after ruining their original dress at one of Gatsby s parties. Even in the case of Gatsby doing Nick favors, Gatsby does not expect anything in return from Nick, but he does hope for a reconnection with Daisy. Part of what really makes Gatsby a good ... • 4. Summary Of The Assassination Of Abraham Lincoln What was the most significant truth you learned from this book and what makes it so significant? How will you apply this new knowledge to your future? Abraham Lincoln supported the Civil war as he felt that it was necessary to prevent secession of the Southern States, even though the states had the right to secede. He was against the institution of slavery expanding and he grew up with a family that attended a Baptist church that opposed slavery. However, it is uncertain as to what Lincoln s views on African Americans truly were as he appealed to his voters, white men. The most significant truth I learned from Killing Lincoln was that there are horrible people from all walks of life; however, blind hatred should not be condoned. Blind hatred... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincolnwhile he was unarmed and sitting next to his wife watching a play. To most American citizens he was a crazed murderer without a conscience, but to others, such as the countless southern sympathizers as a result of the Civil War, he was a martyr for their cause. At the time of Lincoln s assassination the war was essentially over, Booth killed because he and his fellow southern sympathizers were sore losers. He did not murder to satisfy a sick perversion; he killed to atone for the sins of the union. Booth went to church, he was well educated, he was an actor, he had charisma, all of the traits of someone who should not have been a felon, but he was. He was not perfect, he was racist, and he fervently supported his opinions, which is not necessarily an evil action, but with freedom comes the potential for great actions of differing morals. He was politically motivated to assassinate Lincoln, he was not insane. He believed that the best country in the world was the United States before the Civil War, and like Lincoln did with his presidency and the Emancipation Proclamation, he made great efforts to enact changes in radical ways. However, I believe that the killing of another human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Auditing And Auditing Essay Introduction Employees today can see variation as an opportunity rather than a risk. Tim M. and Timboon F., were the ones who observed that change is truly in the present business environment and if done properly, it can aide the growth of business. When a person changes their job responsibilities, they need to be aware of what can be considered a reasonable change in the latitude of their position and what can constitute termination. Sensible changes are those that do not change the essential position. Below are examples of the unfair and fair job changes: An administrative staff member who is inquired to undertake lunch coverage of the reception duties or learn current system could be taken to fall within the scope of an Office Assistant. Moving the same Office Assistant into a role which contains basic of food and beverage service could constitute a redundancy situation. Implementing changes to an employee s job description may have risks, occurring most often when the employee claims the following: 1)Their position is redundant. 2)They have been efficiently and effectively dismissed unfairly. They have been unfavorably treated because of a protected characteristic. Types of Auditors and Audits Auditors are categorized by the kind of engagement. • 6. Effects Of Containment In The Korean War Containment in the Korean War With the help of militaristic and economic aid from Soviet Russia, North Korea had South Korea cornered in the Pusan Perimeter by September of 1950 and a communist victory looked inevitable. However, the United States ditched their policy of isolationism and joined the war effort alongside other United Nations forces and supported South Korea. Since the North Koreans now had to send their supplies all the way down to their soldiers in Pusan, General Douglas MacArthur took advantage of this and instead of using ground forces to fight the North Koreans in Pusan, MacArthur used the United States Navy to flank the supply line in the Battle of Inchon which occurred in September of 1950. This allowed the United States to take back the capital, Seoul, for South Korea which weakened the North Koreans on top of the blockaded supply line. After Inchon was destroyed, United States ground forces moved upwards. On September 25th of 1950, the North Koreans took back Seoul so the United States released an air raid on the North Koreans. By October 7th, the Unites States Forces crossed the pre war border. The North Koreans were pushed up close to the Chinese border when China threatened to send troops into Korea. MacArthur had similar ideals as Senator Joseph McCarthy in that they felt that the US was being too soft on communism and needed to do more about it (Mattingly). • 8. The Rise Of Interwar Fascism Did the rise of interwar fascism have more to do with the personalities of the leaders or the historical circumstances of the 1920s and the 1930s? Adolf Hitler s fascist Nazi party is one of the most resounding memories of the 20th Century. Nazi symbols still conjure images of horror and evil over 70 years after they spread across Europe. In the 1928 German Federal election the Nazi s polled 810,127 votes, just 2.6% of the total votes. By the 1932 election this number had jumped sharply to 13,765,781 votes, 37.3% of the national vote. It was off this platform that he successfully lobbied the German President, Paul Von Hindenburg, to make him chancellor of Germany. The question is, what caused this surge in Nazi support? And why did a democratically elected president hand over power to a clearly authoritarian man? The subject is complex and controversial. The collapse of the economy in 1929 lead to years of poverty in Germany. The failure of democracy to provide a solution lead to people looking elsewhere for a solution. The Nazi s capitalized on this through effective election campaigns. The undertaker of democracy was Hindenburg, whose decisions led to its dismantlement. It was the combination of these political, economic and electoral factors that lead to rise of fascism in interwar Germany. Political The Weimar Republicwas formed in 1918. The early years of the republic were punctuated by attempted Coup d Г©tats. It was only through the intervention of the army and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jfk, By John Fitzgerald Kennedy On the cold blustery snow covered day of January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK) participated in the 44th presidential inauguration, when he was sworn in as the 35th President of The United States of America. The inauguration was almost canceled, as a result of the nor easter, which pummeled the nation s capital hours before. In order for the inauguration to proceed as planned, The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, thousands of D.C. employees and almost 1,700 boy scouts worked feverously to clear the area and streets of snow that finished falling just hours before the occasion. The event went on as planned at the State Capital in front of an enormous crowd of family, friends, famous people and supporters of JFK. Among the most notable in attendance was JFK s wife Jackie, his mother Rose, Vice president Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight D. Eisenhower and 86 year old poet Robert Frost who recited poems. This was also the first time the presidential inauguration was televised in color. With extremely unbearable weather, and a Nor easter moving out of the area just hours before, a massive crowd gathered at the State Capital to participate witnessing history. A crowd, full of several emotions: including excitement, fear, and uncertainty surrounding the future and safety, not only for their great nation, but similarly the world. • 13. Adventures of Death Valley National Park This summer, Alice decided that she was going to go to Death Valley National Park in California. There was only one problem. When Alice asked her parents if she could go, they said no. Alice could only go if she could find at least two friends to go with her. Alice asked her two best friends, Lea and Rachel. They said yes! Alice was so excited, This is going to be the best summer ever! The three girls met up together at Alice s house to discuss what they were going to need to pack. What is the weather like so I know what to pack, Rachel questioned Alice? Well, since the climate is arid and hot, with dry air masses trapped in the valley because there are mountains on both sides, you would probably need shorts and a tank top to keep cool. Probably, you will need shorts, tank tops, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and sunglasses, Alice replied. A hat too, Lea inquired? Alice answered, Yes. Alice s friends didn t really know what Death Valleywas or why it was called Death Valley so she gave a little detail about it. Death Valley is the lowest point on the contiguous U.S, which is 282 feet below sea level. Death Valley is located near the highest point on the contiguous U.S., which is about 76 miles away. On February 11, 1933, President Herbert Hoover made Death Valley a national monument and in 1944 Death Valley was re designated as a national park, Alice told the girls. • 14. Dynamic Characterism In The Keeper Of The Virgins In The Keeper of the Virgins, Hanan Al Shaykh creates a dynamic character of the dwarf. While in the beginning of the story, the dwarf was an outcast from society and his family when he enters the convent he gains acceptance. His family was embarrassed by him, however, after he enters the convent, they begin to worry about him and his well being. Inside the convent walls, he finds a divine and an overwhelming acceptance, missing in the outside world and his family. In the convent he receives unconditional love from the nuns, unlike the hate and darkness outside. In The House Behind, Lydia Davis establishes a divide between social classes through the creation of the front house and the back house. Their separation is meaningful in that it represents the divide in society between the rich and the poor. It represents the difference in power. The setting does not change in the story, however the people s attitudes do. There s an increase in uneasiness from the house in front after the murder. Those in the house behind became ashamed by the actions of their neighbor. Through the association between front and superior there is an indirect connection established. The courtyard connects the two houses as a common ground for interaction, however, it seems to instead serve as a separator between the two. In Wilderness Tips, Margaret Atwood writes with a third person omniscient point of view. This allows the reader to understand all character s actions and emotions without a bias towards any one main character. Throughout the short story the point of view remains constant. By choosing this point of view, Atwood establishes each character (George, Portia, Prue, Pamela, and Roland), allowing the reader to understand the story through an unbiased perspective. The reader is able to establish their own opinion due to the lack of influence from the narrator on character bias. By focusing the narration on Portia s weakness towards George s consistent infidelity, she s able to establish the characterization until her breaking point, suicide. Similarly, in the narration about George the reader gains a deeper understanding into his persona. In The First Day, Edward P. Jones follows a largely chronological method of ... • 18. Persuasive Essay On National Security Today, Canadian s lives today are as translucent as ever. Most organizations especially the government constantly watches each and every one of our moves. From driving to the shopping mall to withdrawing money from the ATM machine, Canadians are being watched constantly. With Canada s commitment to advance technology and infrastructure in the 1960s, government surveillanceis much easier and much more prevalent than it was hundreds of years ago. Even as early as 1940s, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics used punch cards and machines to determine who is available for conscription in the military. Several ethnicity groups such as the Germans, the Italians, the Japanese, the Chinese and the Indians were removed from the military. Today, with the advancement of information technology such as the internet and high speed securitycameras, access to personal information by the government has never been much easier. For instance, airport security now uses finger printing, cameras, and electronic devices in passports that did not exist in the 1990s. For the majority of Canadians, this is a concern because it goes directly against their rights to freedom and privacy. For example, more than half of Canadians in 2012 said that they are against policeand intelligence services acquiring information on Canadians on social media sites. Two third of Canadians in the same year did not agree to the statement police and intelligence agencies should have more powers to ensure security even if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We do not think of the anguish and questions that the sight of deathbrings. But that s exactly what happens to six year old Antonio Marez in the novel Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. The Mood For Love, Urban Space, And Post Modernity In The Mood For Love, Urban Space, and Post Modernity Wong Kar Wai s Fa Yeung Nin Wa (2000), translated to In The Mood For Love, is an opening to the new millennium and homage to past genres of filmmaking. Deeply rooted in emotion and nostalgia, In The Mood For Love reads as a waltz throughout the entirety of the film. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan moves to the city with his wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives in his apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his loneliness and marital strife. Ironically, Ms. Chan s husband is also often away from business, and both realize their partners are having an affair with their respective spouses. Su and Chow begin a fantasy relationship with one another, pretending to be each other s spouse reenacting how their partners could have gotten together. The protagonists constantly push each other s boundaries of propriety; their combined desire for affection is an extension of the abandonment they feel from their spouses. Simultaneously a simulacrum of love and a reflection of genuine yearning, they imitate a relationship and inevitably fall for one another, but fear that they ll stoop to the infidelity of their partners. That explains why the Renaissance artist Botticelli depicted her on a giant scallop shell. In the books Candide, The Glass Menagerie, Their Eyes were Watching God, and My Name is Asher Lev written by Voltaire, Tennessee Williams, Zora Neale Hurston, and Chaim Potok, they are all discernibly different stories, yet they all appear to share the common theme of perseverance in varying degrees to find that happiness is not always awaiting them. I have found that the various symbolic language combined with each author s different style of writing not only makes each story unique, but they also affect each reader s perceptions. When I had finished reading each book once, each story appeared to have such contrasting meanings. For example, Candide initially gave me the impression that his innocence dwindles consistently as he experiences countless people who have suffered outrageous hardships, deceptions, and the people who dole out these miseries. The Glass Menagerie was a bit complex to understand because I was not accustomed to reading books in play format, but I thought that it was trying to establish the mother s relationship with her children. I could relate to this due to the fact that being a teenager along with my brother, we have disagreements on almost everything and what mothers may want best for their children. Also, Amanda mother to Laura and Tom tries her best to instill values she thinks is essential in Laura s gentleman caller and Tom due to her horrid experience with her husband who gave up his job with the telephone company and skipped ... • 38. Analysis Of Annabel Lee s A Kingdom By The Sea The turn of the nineteenth century for the newly formed United States was a time of nervous apprehension running alongside a giddy sense of adventure. The colonist had shirked the cloak of Britain and was a fledgling country of their own, similar to a young adult trying to figure out their way after leaving home. Nothing spoke of this like the Romantic writings in the early nineteenth century. The works tended to have a lot of good vs. evil and oppressor vs. oppressed. They tended to be optimistic, very democratic in their views, anti slavery, some even dipped into the early women s rights movement. The romantics were rebels with a cause, nonconforming individuals that think and stay true to how they see themselves. Along with the lofty language, the authors tended to write their prose they also managed to keep the details of their writings very generic. Such as Edgar Allen Poe, with his location description in Annabel Lee: In a kingdom by the sea. (Poe) The Romantic author also liked being a master of his or her fate. The Realist was different from the Romantic in as many areas. The Realist time was after the Civil War, many of them lived through the carnage, and it affected their views of life and the world. Realist writings usually consisted of a distinct time and place, unlike the Romantics generalizations. War Takes Over Everything in Walt Whitmanв Ђ™s Poem, Drum Taps The overall theme in Walt Whitman s Drum Taps is about the way war consumes everything and monopolizes every facet of life; particularly the land the war is fought on. When analyzing the poem, the first stanza talks about the movement of war from the farms, the second stanza talks about the progression of warfrom the farm to the city. In stanza three this journey continues through the battlefield, through the halls of power and finally into the homes, moving from the public to private spheres of life. Throughout the entire poem there is an emphasized pulse of drums that beats within the lines. This pulse of drums resonates throughout the entire poem and prompts me to wonder how Whitman intended to utilize this mechanism. Furthermore, I want to uncover if the sounds of these drums is symbolic in some way, and if they are, then I wonder if this symbolism represents a positive view or negative view on war. My first interpretation is that these drums represent Whitman s negative perspective on war. I feel that the use of the pulse of drums throughout the poem acts as a mechanism that Whitman uses in order to discourage war. I feel that these sounds are symbolic of the dire news at the time that consisted of the battles. It seems that Whitman is addressing this pulse of drums in attempt to highlight the effect this war will have on the country.
