2. The advertisement that I found in ‘The Star’ newspaper, date of 17th of December 2014
(Wednesday) is about MONASH University Malaysia.
The reason I chose for the MONASH University Malaysia’s advertisement is because
this advertisement contain persuasion concept. What is the definition of persuasion
concept? Persuasion is a powerful force in daily life and has a major influence on society
and a whole. Politics, legal decisions, mass media, news and advertising are all
influenced by the power of persuasion, and influence us in turn.
Credible communicator is contained in this advertisement. It is because the two
communicators that are in the advertisement are excellent students in their own course’s
academic. Ameer Sobhan got his Best Graduate Award (Nov 2014) for Bachelor of Arts
whereas Jaina Umesh Chandwany got her Best Graduate Award (Nov 2014) for Bachelor
of Communication. Not only that, Ameer was an exchange student to University of North
Carolina whereas Jaina was an exchange student to Monash University Prato Centre.
Secondly, concept of attractive communicator is also included in the advertisement.
They were wearing smart casual such as Ameer wore long sleeve shirt, but not sleeveless
shirt. Both of them have a good looking, sweet smile and looked confidence in the
advertisement.
Lastly, the concept is contained in this advertisement is messages that do not appear to
change attitudes such as ‘Building global citizen’. This kind of message is used to
persuade the readers to study or choose MONASH University Malaysia.
