A Short Trip
Or so her father had always told her. Be careful out there, Margaret, he would say, his eyes hard and
sharp like ice. There are people who would take advantage of a pretty thing like you. Always keep
your guard up. This trip, as thrilling as it was, was also a little bit scary. People would eye her
curiously along her bus route. She kept her tickets clutched hard in her gloved hands, making sure no
one pilfered them. Although she had a feeling that her father meant something very different when he
was warning her against travelling alone, she still guarded against theft. Better safe than sorry. That
was her family s motto. Margie kept her drinking to one glass an evening. She kept all her things close
to her. She made sure never to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tiny glow of a lighter illuminated an unfamiliar face. The face was male and looked unhappy;
perhaps a cook or busboy. Margie finally relaxed enough to set down her glass on the bar, laughing at
herself for being afraid of the dark. What a goose she was! No matter; at least she didn t scream. The
same thing couldn t be said for the hostesses. Blinded by the sudden return of the lighting, it took
Margie s eyes a few seconds to readjust. The hostesses were holding each other s wrists, looking
around with their eyes a little too wide. They laughed after a moment, releasing each other and
giggling like fools. The handsome waiter stumbled into the room, blinking away the darkness. Is
everyone alright? he asked, his accent making the words nearly unintelligible. But Margie couldn t
hear him. She was staring at one of the booths to the left of her barstool. One of the stragglers in the
restaurant had his head pressed against the lacquered wood of his booth s table, like he was sleeping.
The long fingers of his hand were still wrapped around the stem of his wine glass. An ever expanding
puddle of blood spread across the table, sliding across the wood to drip to the luxurious carpet. Margie
screamed, her voice shaking the crystals in the chandelier. By the time the police showed up, Margie
had managed to gather herself together enough to get up off of the tiled floor where she

Before the Declaration of Independence that we know today was enforced, several revisions to the
document were made. One of the causes of these revisions that eventually was absent from the
Declaration of Independence was the mention of the abolition of slavery. Politicians of the time period
debated this key issue, as politicians differed between whether slavery should continue to exist in the
nation. The Declaration promised life, liberty and property to all those who lived in the United States,
however politicians knew that plantations and the agriculture business would not thrive without a
source of cheap labor.
During the late part of the eighteenth century as well as early part of the nineteenth century, the United
States drastically grew geographically. Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio were all admitted into the
union between 1791 1803. However, the rapid geographical growth was largely in part to the
Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between the United States and
France, a deal in which the U.S. acquired 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi. In
1787 slavery was barred in the Northwest Territory however, whether slavery would exist in the states
acquired through the Louisiana Purchase had not yet been decided. When Missouri,

Ethical And Ethical Theories Of Ethics
Ethical Analogy Opinions lead our society. Everyone is entitled to their reasoning and how strongly
they feel that their approach to life is the right way. Moral beliefs are the stone foundation behind the
way people think and their ethics. Look at morals as code of conduct. Each society has its own moral
beliefs but come to an understanding that everyone s entitled is clear. It s a rule that s not writing as a
law but more so the common way. The act of a person behavior all falls into their ethical belief.
Different people causes for different responds to a situation. Furthermore ethics is a way to solidify
the difference between good, bad or wrong and right. Morally and ethically there is a wrong and right
way to every issues we face however, no one can truly say what is right the proper behavioral
response due to emotions that move us. One approach used to helping with ethics is Utilitarism. It is
described as the means to an end. Created by John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham, this theory tries
to answer moral questions with emotion of one and religion. The outcome is for the greater good of all
or the most people. It s the idea of putting other before you. The moral good is defined as the greatest
happiness for the most amounts and the immoral would be the less good for the least amount. Kantian
another theory that is very opposite of, Utilitarism means to end. It s the law of not satisfying one s
own needs, created by Immanuel Kant. The two questions used as

Magnificent Seven Satire
Western and cowboy movies are two of the oldest types of movie genres ever made. People have long
had a fascination with the wild west and its lawlessness and often like to revisit it by watching these
kinds of movies. So many have been made that at times it might feel like nothing new can be added to
these stories and an attempt to do so is just revisiting old hat. The Magnificent Seven makes an
attempt at not only adding to the lineage of western movies but also retells a story of a movie
considered by some to be a classic. The Magnificent Seven might not live up to the original movie in
the minds of movie critics and typical western movie fans. To the nontypical western fan that did not
see the original it can still hit all the right notes of action, slight comedy, and violence to keep their
interest. Add to that fact we end up watching a truly diverse group of misfit cowboy grow together to
become heroes for a small western town. The total package is enough for ... Show more content on

The Magnificent Seven does its share to keep up that trend. Basically, the movie spends the whole
time building up to the climatic and the epic fight between Chisolm, and Bogue. The fight does not
disappoint in any way, shape or form either. It can feel a tad bit too violent, but it will keep you on the
edge of your seat. Aside from the final fight scene, there are plenty of other action packed, and violent
scenes to keep you interested like appetizers before the big feast. You could include the early scene
where one of Rose Creek is brutally killed by one of Bogue s henchmen with a tomahawk. It s a scene
that sets the tone for the violence that is to come. This movie isn t as much about the depth of its story
as it is about action and straddling the line of too much violence. It might be best described as one
movie critic for Rolling Stone writes It s two hours of hardcore, shoot em up pow and it s entertaining
as hell.

Premier Investment s Gross Profit Margin has increased slightly from 59.09% in 2010 to 59.51% in
2011. The increase is not huge, but the margin is pretty good, and it reflects that the company keeps
the cost under control. On the other hand, the Gross Profit Margin for David Jones has decreased from
39.73% in 2010 to 39.11% in 2011. This decrease is not very huge, but the overall figure reflects not a
very profitable condition. These margins are well below the profitability of Premier Investments. This
means that David Jones has a relatively poor cost control. Net Profit Margin The Net Profit Margin is
a more refined measure of profitability. Gross Margin reflects half of the costs, and does not include
the effect of operating costs. However, net profit margin includes the operating costs, as well (Vance
2003). Premier Investments Net Profit Margin has decreased from 16.11% in 2010 to 9.54% in 2011.
This is a significant decrease in profitability, since the net margin has decrease by over 5%. It reflects
that the company is unable to control its operating expenses. David Jones Limited, on the other hand,
had a net Profit Margin of 12.11% in 2010, which increased to 12.62% in 2011. The increase is not
very huge, but the overall Net Profit Margin is

General Mills
The company can trace its history to the Minneapolis Milling Company, an organization founded in
1856 by Illinois Congressman Robert Smith which leased power rights to mills operating along Saint
Anthony Falls on the Mississippi River. Cadwallader C. Washburn acquired the company shortly after
its founding and hired his brother, William D. Washburn to assist in the company s development. In
1866, the Washburns got into the business themselves, building the Washburn B Mill at the falls. At
the time, the building was considered to be so large and output so vast that it could not possibly
sustain itself. However, the company succeeded, and in 1874 he built the even bigger Washburn A

purchase of the company was substantial because it brought production costs down and tripled the

Beginning in 1959, General Mills sponsored the famous Rocky and His Friends television show,
which later prompted The Bullwinkle Show in 1961. Until 1968, Rocky and Bullwinkle were featured

General Mills came out with their Monster Cereals in the 1970s. Two of the cereals, Frute Brute and
Yummy Mummy, were discontinued from the Monster Cereal line in the 1980s.[citation needed]
In 1970, General Mills acquired a five unit restaurant company called Red Lobster and expanded it
nationwide. Soon, a division of General Mills titled General Mills Restaurants developed to take
charge of the Red Lobster chain. In 1982, General Mills Restaurants founded a new Italian themed
restaurant chain called Olive Garden. Another themed restaurant, China Coast, was added before the
entire group was spun off to General Mills shareholders in 1995 as Darden Restaurants.

Summary Of The City Of Pigs
In the book the Republic Socrates creates a city called the City of Pigs. Socrates refers to it as the true
city, the healthy ones. His companions do not like the idea of this city. They all come up with a city
that they all agree with called the City of Luxury. They believe this city is good and unbiased. I agree
with them, I think the City of Luxury is a better city and is overall more unbiased than the City of
Pigs.
The City of Pigs is a peaceful city. Everybody gets along and nobody causes trouble. Every citizen in
this city has their own craft. If the people have a lot of skill and ability to be really good at their craft
they will stay with that craft the rest of their life. There is no money in this society, everybody
contributes by using their craft to serve the community. There is no greed or envy towards one
another. The craftsman s class are made with builders, farmers, cobblers, carpenters, weavers,
shepherds, smiths, and traders. There is however some sort of currency for trading goods. This is for
everybody to be able to cover their needs of housing, clothing and food. The people in this city are
stable and healthy. Nobody overindulged or was unhealthy in this society. Socrates believe if people
ate healthy and felt good about themselves, people would strive in society and become more valuable
to the community. They believed that a healthy body and healthy mind equals a successful life. They
would feed themselves meals made of barley, flour and wheat, noble

Title: High concentrations of sodium diet causes kidney stones in the African American male
population?
Studies have shown that a person s sodium intake can contribute to an increase in blood pressure,
which can lead to heart disease and other health complications. Over the years many investigators
have continued to study the effects of sodium on the human body. African Americans living in the
United States have a higher risk of having diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease.
However, not much research investigated the effects of high salt consumption on the odds of
developing kidney stones in African American men. While this study will not build upon any currently

Roofing Services In Plano Case Study
For the first few decades after settlers began arriving in the area during the early 1840s, Plano
remained a sleepy little town. Since 1970, however, Plano has seen explosive growth decade after
decade. The increased population attracted new businesses to provide the services and goods needed.
Today, the homeowners and business owners in Plano frequently turn to Alpha Roofing for services
such as emergency roof repairs, commercial roof replacements, metal roofing systems, asphalt shingle

Psychological Effects of Television on Children’s...
Does violence on television have a negative effect on children and teenagers? The violence seen on
television has had surprising negative effect. Violence shown on television causes children and
teenagers to develop behavioral problems and learning disabilities. Such behavioral and learning
problems include; language development, school performance / learning, cognitive development and
their general behavior to others (Kinnear 27). In a study on the correlation between violence and
television done with 1,565 teenage boys over a six year period in London, William Belson, a British
psychologist, found that every time a child saw someone being shot or killed on television they

Children who watched television alone were 8.47 times more likely to have language delay when
compared to children who interacted with their caregivers during television viewing (Dorey 47). As
recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Children under the age of 2 should
watch no television at all, and after age 2 watch no more than one to two hours of quality
programming a day (Bettinghaus 57). Therefore, exposing such young children to television programs
should be discouraged. Parents should engage children in more conversational activities to avoid
television related delays to their children language development, which could impair their intellectual
performance (Dorey 47). Television can affect learning and school performance if it exceeds the time
kids need for their crucial for healthy physical and mental development. Most of children s free time,
especially during the early development years, should be spent in activities such as playing, reading,
exploring nature, learning about music or participating in sports. Research has shown that children s
exposure to television during the preschool years is predictive of academic outcomes during
adolescence. The most notable lesson about this

Book Report On Technology And The Internet
This book is different than other books of the similar topics. Normally, when the topic of a book is
about technology or internet , it is difficult for the book to be written in a fun way because let s face it;
this topic itself is a little tedious. However, this book showed us a brand new way of talking about
Internet and the influence it has brought to our life. The way the author quoted the researchers
sentences and theories helped us to feel more willing to continue reading this book.
We used to read books to absorb new information or just kill time. It was a traditional way for us to
obtain knowledge and ideas of people around the world. Sometimes we spend several hours or even
days reading an interesting book just because we were attracted by some new thoughts. However, the
occurrence of computer and the internet has changed this. We have lost our patience and interest in
reading long articles and books. Instead, we prefer searching keywords online to get what we want by
skipping all the way. This change has drawn huge influence on the development of the new
generations. As the author has pointed out in the book, it was more difficult to assign the students to
read a whole book nowadays. Also, since we do not need to actually write anything for most of time
all we do is typing, on the cell phone, on the computer, on the typewriter, and ect we forget words
spelling from time to time because we haven t written them for a log time. The effects of technology

Relationship Between Natural Environment And Human Exchange
The relationship between the natural environment and human exchange is one that has been an
ongoing battle of overconsumption and a regulation on natural goods. Human interaction during the
Industrial Revolution spanning from the nineteenth and twentieth century has several contrasting
principles. In the nineteenth century, the excuse of overconsumption was for industrial economic
profit. Humans believed that over using natural resource was acceptable due to the belief that natural
resources were God s gift to man, and God would replenish the natural goods. However, the overuse
of natural goods results in smog, pollution, and water contamination which has various damaging
health effects. In the 20th century, humans were more than aware of the effects that over consumption
produced, but neglected the environment for their own social status and profit. Nevertheless, during
the end of the 20th century, scientific evidence led to widespread awareness of the effects occurring to
the environment, prompting people to make policies to change and protect the environment. This
caused humans to create a relationship with the government and restrict overconsumption. Ultimately,
the first Industrial Revolution during the 19th century, the overuse of technology wasn t perceived as
harmful to the environment. However, in the second Industrial Revolution during the 20th century,
over consumption had external effects that were harmful to the environment, triggering intrusion from

in highway safty. A vehicle proximity warning collision avoidance system is being developed using
GPS and wireless local area networks to improve safety of off highway trucks in open pit
mines.System warnings should result in a minimum load on driver attention. The use of a single low
cost image sensor results in an affordable system which is simple to install. The control unit is
instructed from the remotely controlled device and the range sensors that are mounted on the front and
back sides. According to the required need, a specific operation is selected and performed. This is a
new phenomenon using this we can reduce the road accident in highway and saves millions of life.
The platoon system demonstrated a number of AHS features such as lane keeping, lane changing,
longitudinal space and speed regulation using proved enabling technologies. The purpose of this study
was to analyze if there is a regional variation in the risk of MVC death after controlling for injury
severity. The development of collision avoidance systems is motivated by their potential for increased

Art of the Egyptians and Africans
Art of the Egyptians and Africans
Art of the Egyptians and Africans express .............................In art, style is a characteristic, or a
number of characteristics that we can identify as constant, recurring, or coherent.(Art Terminology 1)
Artists express their emotions through their art making, their finished product will reflect that
emotion. They might also create a piece of art that makes the viewer create an emotional response.
Emotion is any strong agitation of the feelings actuated by experiencing love, hate, fear, etc.
(Dictionary 1)
Ancient Egyptian art is five thousand years old. It emerged and took shape in the ancient Egypt, the
civilization of the Nile Valley. Ancient Egyptian art was shown with emotion beautifully in painting
and sculpture, and was both highly symbolic and stylized. The exceptional traditions in Egypt is one
of the most important things in the history of art. The tombs and temples of the Egyptians have
expressed the grandeur of the kingdom of the Nile. Egyptian sculptors and painters began to formulate
patterns to represent figures and stories. Egyptians used the art to represent a continuation of life after
death, it was an important part of their culture. They believed that, in order for the spirit to live on, the
dead person s body had to be preserved, or mummified, and buried along with supplies of food and

Anna Of Byzantium Quotes
One of the biggest questions about someone s personality is if they would make a good leader. A great
book regarding this question is Anna of Byzantium, by Tracy Barrett. This book is based on a real girl,
Anna Comnena, who lived in royalty in the Byzantine Empire. Anna Comnena was the first born of
Emperor Alexius Comnenus and Empress Irene Ducas. In the book, Anna was the heir to throne of the
Byzantine empire and was living happily with her younger sister Maria when her troublemaking
brother John was born. After a series of mishaps, Anna s evil grandmother Anna Dalssenna convinced
Alexius to demote Anna and give her title of heir to John, who did not deserve it. Anna plotted
revenge, but got caught and was sent to a convent to spend the ... Show more content on

This concrete detail is evidence that Anna was passionate, because she had a very strong desire, or
passion, to overthrow or get rid of her brother and take the throne, which was rightfully hers. Readers
might argue that Anna was not passionate, but indifferent, as shown by, Each morning I rose from my
bed and attended services, Masses for the repose of my father s soul. I resisted the idea that he needed
any intercession to enter heaven, but participated as was expected of me (Barret 176). To some this
quote might show that Anna did not care for her father and had no reason to take the throne. However,
that is proven wrong in this quote, Under his guidance, I studied for hours every day, bending over the
books, with all different styles of writing, until my eyes glazed and my head swam...I would force
myself to read more until I was so weary that when I finally tumbled into bed, Sophia had to undress
my motionless form, and everynight I would sleep a deep, dreamless sleep (Barrett 122). This counter
evidence validates the fact that Anna was passionate and determined, and worked hard to surpass her

The Glorious Revolution in England of 1688
The Glorious Revolution in England of 1688 James II succession to the throne of England came
without protest of any kind. James II was the son of Charles I and younger brother to Charles II. In
January of 1649, Charles I, King of England, went on trial and was convicted as a Tyrant, Traitor,
Murderer, and public enemy to the good people of this nation. (Cannon, pg. 385) On 7 February 1649,
Charles II was proclaimed King of Great Britain. While Charles II was in office, he began to develop a
form of government that existed without the parliament. In 1685, when Charles II brother, James II,
took over, James continued with the trend in government that his brother set into action. From the
Restoration of Charles II in 1660 to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, the Glorious Revolution earned the name the Bloodless Revolution. This was the first
revolution where a king was dismounted without any bloodshed (Israel, pg. 432 40). As the Glorious
Revolution ended, England was forced into an immediate conflict with Louis XIV of France. James II,
a Catholic king, had been disposed of, and a Protestant king, William, husband of Mary, James s
daughter, had taken over. Louis and James were able to get along but William and Louis were not.
They began a war over what is now present day Belgium. Belgium was a key place for fortresses and
harbors (Kissinger, pg.71). Though the revolution itself may have been bloodless, it caused much
unrest in England. Old stresses between the King and Parliament, Church and Dissent, appeared to be
undiminished and were joined by bitter divisions over the succession of William III and Mary II. This
involved rebellion and war in Ireland and Scotland, and plots, riots, and insurrection in England
(Hoppit, pg. 2). It is very doubtful whether many of the revolutionaries of 1688 foresaw the
consequences of their actions in terms of England s relations with foreign powers. Before the

The War Of 1812 Was A Great Deal Of Curiosity
History has the tendency to cause a great deal of curiosity. For instance, someone may wonder what
the War of 1812 was and what difficulties the United States had in waging the War of 1812. They also
might ponder about why the War of 1812 was widely viewed as a victory for the United States or how
the war lead to an increasing pattern of diplomatic cooperation between the United States and Britain.
Our very own seventh president, Andrew Jackson, has meant a great deal in our history and some may
ask what it was about his presidency that distinguished him compared to his predecessors, or how he
refined the role of the president. Last but not least, there remains the important question about what
factors lead to the increasing production of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before getting to that point, we must first discuss the events that led to increasing tensions between
the United States and Britain. One of the difficulties that led to the War of 1812 was because of the
failure of economic sanctions. In 1810, congress had replaced the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s
Bill No. 2 in hopes of creating easier trading throughout the nations. Through this time, and with the
replacement of the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s Bill No. 2, Napoleon had promised to withdraw
decrees against U.S. shipping on the condition that if Britain should not follow suit, Madison would
have to force Britain to respect U.S. rights. Unfortunately, French seizures of U.S. ships continued and
by the time Napoleon s requests were clear, he had worsened Anglo American tensions. In November
of 1810, Madison had reimposed Nonintercourse against Britain which only caused the two nations to
have more conflicts. Another difficulty leading to the decision of war in 1812 was due to the frontier
and Indian resistance. Madison was also pushed toward a war against Britain because of mounting
frustrations in the South and West. Farm prices plunged when Jefferson s embargo shut off exports,
but stayed low after the embargo was lifted. Much of the blame for persistent agricultural depression
focused on the British and their hold on overseas trade after 1808. As we can see, Britain and the U.S.
had not been on good sides of the other. In fact, western

The Asian American Population On The Health Disparity...
In 2014, the Asian American population accounted for nearly 5.4% of the total United States (U.S)
population and is projected to increase to 9.3% by the year 2060.1 Currently, the cities with the largest
populations of Asian Americans include the major metropolitan and surrounding areas of Los Angeles,
New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Honolulu.1 In this report, the Asian
American population was defined as individuals who reported their race as Chinese, Japanese,
Korean, Asian Indian, Vietnamese, Filipino and/or other Asian to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010. As

Important factors that may influence these areas include biological, behavioral, and environmental, as
well as factors attributed to both cultural and societal barriers. These factors can create and expand
gaps in literature, inadequacies in community outreach, and insufficient improvements in mental

319 million to 417 million people between 2014 and 2016.1 Currently, the U.S. Census Bureau s 2014
National Projections Report has put an emphasis on the rapid growth of the American population due
to two factors; change in age structure and the shift of racial and ethnic compositions of the
population.1 With a significant growth in the American population, health disparities in regards to
race, ethnicity, gender, income and geographical location have risen tremendously, further creating a

Hegemonic Masculinity In American Culture
1. Hegemonic Masculinity is basically the idea of male dominance. This is important to American
Culture because, it helps to explain why males put themselves higher than females. In the American
culture it is easy to see that males have more power in the deciding aspects. One of the ways to see
this is in the government. If you look at the United States government you would see that the majority
of representatives are males. Additionally, if you look at the list of presidents you would see that they
have all been males. This goes to show that the male dominance is a real thing in terms of a glance.
When you dig deeper into the American culture you will begin to understand different ways that
Hegemonic Masculinity takes place. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most common would be insults. If you have a male on a baseball team and the coach tells
him he throws like a girl. The coach just told that male that they do not throw well and that they are
weak. One of the reason that we get this idea is because society has tried to convince us that females
are weak. They do this through branding and media. So when the coach tells the boy that he throws
like a girl the coach is really telling the boy that his throw is weak and needs to be stronger to make a
difference. Another saying that is used is boys don t cry . This puts into the male culture that men are
not supposed to cry or be weak. If you are a male and cry in public you are looked down upon and
seem to be not masculine. If a male feels unmasculine they will try to do everything that they can to be
more masculine. One of the great places use see this is in college. If you look at a lot of fraternity s
hazing rituals you see that most of them are trying to get the men to act more macho and strong. This
is to increase their Hegemonic Masculinity. They do this because they have been told from a young
age that being emotional and weak are female traits and if you fall into these trait then you are not a
real male. And so they go and do these things to fit into what society tells them to do, so that they can
be a dominate male in the

Trappie Research Paper
Crappie like most panfish consume many different food sources including baitfish, zooplankton,
insects, crustaceans and even the fry of their predators. A productive way of fishing crappie is to
nymph. I prefer using a non bead head Prince Nymph to allow for the nymph to sink slowly. You may
also swap out the Prince Nymph for any bead head or non bead head variation of a Mayfly Nymph,
Hares Ear Nymph or mix it up and see what works in your area. Crappie will feed up or out so you
will need to use a strike indicator when nymphing for crappie. If you are unsure of the water depth use
an indicator which can be quickly adjusted. A Corkie, Thingamabobber or Airlock indicator can be
easily moved up and down the leader to adjust for depth. Try tying your nymph as a dropper under a
foam fly. The foam fly will work as a strike indicator and will double your chances of catching a
crappie. Larger foam flies can support heavier nymphs, try to stick to something like a Chernobyl Ant,

The Tolkien The Hobbit
The Hobbit
The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien is novel about a hobbit who comes to the realization that there was more
to him than what meets the eye. In the Middle Earth, around the third age, Bilbo Baggins embarks on
the adventure of a lifetime. Throughout the obstacles and hardships of the adventure, Bilbo Baggins
transforms from a man of doubts and comfort to a hero with a newfound confidence and leadership.
The Hobbit, a book of fantasy and adventure, is likely to appeal to readers of any age. The author who
tells an entertaining story, offers all readers a chance to journey on an adventure with a magical
wizard, a hobbit and dwarves. In the beginning of the novel the author s tone transitions from
humorous to ominous and suspenseful. Humorously, the author talks about Bilbo s attitude towards
Gandalf s offer of an adventure stating, We don t want any adventures here, thank you! You might
want to try over the Hill or across the water. By this he meant the conversation was at end (6). As the
book progresses, the author s tone darkens, and the suspense of the novel rises. One example of
suspense in the novel is Bilbo s encounter with Gollum. Does it guess easy? It must have a
competition with us, my preciouss! If precious asks, and it doesn t answer, we eats it, my preciousss.
If it asks us and we don t answer, then we does what it wants, eh? We shows it the way out, yes! (70).

The Relations Between Native Americans and Colonists Essay
The Relations between Native Americans and Colonists
There are many reasons Native Americans and European Colonists did not have a good relationship.
The reason for conflict between Colonist and Indians was due to the Colonists insatiable greed for
power and land. Some of the reasons not only included physical mistreatment but also an ethical
mistreatment of the Native Americans. European Colonists not only brought with them many different
diseases that would later aid in the genocide of many Native American tribes, but also a mindset in
which they felt superior to there Native neighbors. This feeling of superiority led to an outbreak of
violence and many different civil wars. Due to the Native American and the Colonists irreconcilable ...

Another cause for poor relations between Native Americans and European Settlers was the constant
push for acquiring new land by the Colonists. The Native Americans did not just want to give up their
land and this resulted in war between the Indians and the Colonists. During this time Native
Americans were sold into slavery belittled and removed from their land, due to the fact that the
Colonists had more advanced technology and weapons. One of the major wars was the French and
Indian War which resulted in the removal of Native Americans from their land and many casualties on
both sides. Over time many battles were fought over land, even after America was an established
country with presidents, laws, and court systems. Native Americans were continually pushed out of
their land for hundreds of years while they were forced to move west. The constant push of Native
Americans out of their land would cause an event known as the Trail of Tears where thousands of
Indians were removed from their land by the Indian Removal Act. In 1830 the Congress of the United
States passed the Indian Removal Act. Although many Americans were against the act, most notably
Tennessee Congressman Davy Crockett, it passed anyway. President Jackson quickly signed the bill
into law. The Cherokees attempted to fight removal legally by challenging the removal laws in the

Because Six Sigma is applied to all aspects of the production and planning process, it may create

Within-Class Ability Grouping Argumentative Analysis
In order to grasp the effectiveness of ability groups, it is necessary to point out the differences
amongst them. Mathews (2013) states that ability grouping is classified into two categories which are
between class ability grouping and within class ability grouping. Between class ability grouping is
essentially leveled groups (high, medium, low) across the grade level and is also known as cluster
grouping. Each group is assigned to a particular classroom based on their academic ability or prior
performance (gifted, special needs, and language learners). Within class ability grouping is the
assignment of students to groups within each classroom based on interest, skill, ability, and various
other factors (Mathews, 2013, p. 82). Within class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They describe that overall the advantages of ability grouping outweigh the disadvantages of reduced
overall instructional time and unsupervised seatwork (Hallinan and Sorenson, 1987, p. 63). However,
Hallinan and Sorenson (1987) point out that many studies show that ability grouping favors students
in the high group and disadvantages those who are in the lowest group. This is because high ability
groups are characterized by students who have a positive attitude towards learning and who are highly
motivated; while, students in the lowest group are those who are easily distracted and have more
behavior problems. If the teacher is spending the group s instructional time on discipline and
redirecting, the group has a smaller amount of instructional time and as a result the amount of learning

The Van Allen belts consist of an inner and more concentrated belt of protons at a distance of 3,600
km and an outer and less concentrated belt of electrons at a distance of 10,000 km~cite{wilson}. In
the most intense regions of the inner belt, exposure can be lethal after a few tens of hours~cite{smart}.
This created uncertainty at NASA for whether or not humans could ever travel to the Moon and
beyond. In response, the scientist who discovered the Van Allen belts, James Van Allen, proposed a
controversial method of removing the trapped radiation. He suggested that a nuclear detonation in
space might cause the trapped protons to escape from the Earth s magnetic field. The theory was never
directly tested, but a similar test that detonated a 1.4 megaton bomb in the atmosphere showed that in
fact more radiation was added as a result~cite{popsci}.
The second source of space radiation is called a Solar Particle Event or SPE. This type of radiation
originates from solar ejections of charged particles, usually as X rays~cite{nasa}. The cause of an SPE
is generally attributed to a loss of ideal MHD (magnetohydrodynamics) or stability within the Sun s
atmosphere~cite{forbes}. Although SPE s can eject over a billion tons of matter into space, the Earths
magnetosphere can deflect most of the charged particles. Outside of the Earths magnetosphere,
though, the dosage of an SPE can be lethal in a matter of hours~cite{nasa, smart}. In 1972, when

Response To Conflict Research Paper
What is conflict? It is a word commonly used by humans, but some can t even define the word.
Conflict is a battle, fight, or struggle, and there are many ways that humans can respond to it.
However, the most effective way to respond is by compromising. Throughout history, compromise has
saved so many lives, and has kept peaceful relations between people. Even though war is a terrible
thing, there are times when it is necessary to effectively settle disputes, as shown by Elie Wiesel, who
survived a concentration camp, and Winston Churchill, who was struggling to defeat Nazi Germany.

On the battlefield, soldiers are hurt and killed every day. But, according to the Science Museum,
Soldiers not only suffered on the battlefield. Veterans often needed long term care owing to the
physical and psychological impact of war. Especially in the Vietnam War, since the soldiers were
constantly being attacked, but couldn t see their enemy. This messed with their minds, and the ones
still alive today have never been the same since they got back from Vietnam. War not only has
negative effects on soldiers, but also on the townspeople who live near war. The Science Museum also
writes, Civilians, particularly children, can also suffer the effects of trauma. Civilians don t only have
the constant fear of the war getting too close to them, but also the fear of bombs and harmful
chemicals. Again, in the Vietnam War, US forces used a chemical called agent orange to destroy the
foliage of forests so they could see their enemy better. This, though, has had a long term effect on
everyone who was exposed to the chemical by giving them radiation poisoning, or in some cases,
cancer. Also in the Vietnam War, the US dropped bombs on North Vietnam, and hit many houses,
villages, and fields where the civilians grew their food. Many people died who weren t even part of
the war. It can be very hard for countries to regain their strength and money once a long war is
finished. Take Germany, for example. After WW1, Germany s economy was very unstable, so the US
gave them reparation loans to rebuilt it. An article written by Wikipedia says, The German

I can say with certainty that the film adaptation did a much better job at presenting the tale of Eve
Harrington than the original short story did, primarily because the movie allowed me to feel for the
characters. In the short story, I didn t get to see what happened, but rather Margola telling what
happened. Unlike the film, there are no flashbacks to the story itself, so I wasn t really able to actually
visualize it. Most of the short story is just Margola talking to Karen inside the car, so in a sense, it s
neither telling nor showing. It s showing telling, and that isn t very entertaining to see or imagine.
Additionally, because the events surrounding Eve had already happened, I was also unable to witness
how they affected Margola. The

How Did Churchill s Iron Curtain Influence The Governance...
In a post WW2 era the world was carved up between two spheres of influence, between two super
powers with totally contrasting ideologies and two completely different views concerning the
governance of a state. In the USSR s areas of influence, state ownership and strict control was
commanded by Communists. In contrast, the US was striving for a political reorganisation and
liberalisation of the world in combination with a movement towards a free market economy.
The two opposing nations were hostile towards one another due to ideological distrust of communism
and a threat of expansion in the Western capitalist states. Stalin, who suffered from paranoia was
repeatedly skeptical towards his former allies, especially the most mighty one of them, ... Show more

This was in turn seen as signs of aggression and an upcoming expansion in the west and lead to the
aggravation of the conflict.
The next wave of frictions was caused by Churchill s Iron Curtain speech, which led to the escalation
of the struggle between East and West. In his speech, Churchill divided the world into East and West
after the descent of an Iron curtain . The speech reminded not only the powers which were involved in
the conflict, but the whole world about the ferocity and the continuous struggle between Communism
and Democracy. Moreover it send warning signals to Stalin who realised that the former allies, Great
Britain and the US were on good terms with each other and that both openly opposed Stalin s regime.
When the West suspected that the USSR extended its influence in Greece, which was scattered by
civill war and demanded naval bases in Turkey in 1946 47 Truman declared that containment was
about to start in the whole world. This later became known as the Truman Doctrine which meant the
end of any cooperation between the victorious powers from WW2. This marked the beginning of a
cold war, a conflict which never escalated to armed battles between the two superpowers, but led to
the complete breakdown of their

Lending a Helping Hand Essay
Lending a Helping Hand
There have always been organizations that provide help for the needy. Now the economy is going
through a downward spiral giving these institutions a greater importance in helping the lives of those
who need it. Miami County residents have seen firsthand that some people who live in this area really
need the help. The statistical evidence shows that Miami County, Indiana is being affected by the
economy. The average salary of a resident in Peru, Indiana ends up being $28,487. (Indiana) That
number may not seem profound, but when you have a family to support, the budget gets tight. The
normal wage annually for a resident in the state of Indiana is $45,434. (Indiana) That makes it roughly
38% more money than what Miami ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, hunger only makes up for a small part of the complications that poverty brings. Without enough
money, how does someone suppose to afford to live in a house? Though most Miami County residents
do not see homeless people, does not hide the fact we have people living without a home. Peru is not a
big city like New York, or Los Angeles, but no matter where you are at in America, there will always
be those who cannot afford to rent or own any type of housing.
Even if everyone could afford some type of housing to live in, it does not mean they can afford all the
necessary utilities. Air conditioning is not a necessity, but someone might not have enough money to
provide a fan. The cost for utilities such as electricity for a fan to keep the cool in the summer heat, or
simply having running water might be a problem for someone with little to no income. With winter
approaching even some people will have to go without heat in the Miami County area.
Helping Hands is a Non Government and Non Profit organization in Miami County. Hershel Manhart
was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul in Peru when he began to do research to determine if there was
a need for a food pantry. He started his research in 2000 and within two years determined there was
definitely a need for one. Helping Hands was founded in 2002 by Hershel. (Manhart) It is run by
volunteers from the area and provides many solutions to the dilemmas of poverty. Some of the
services they provide are feeding the

  • 2. A Short Trip Or so her father had always told her. Be careful out there, Margaret, he would say, his eyes hard and sharp like ice. There are people who would take advantage of a pretty thing like you. Always keep your guard up. This trip, as thrilling as it was, was also a little bit scary. People would eye her curiously along her bus route. She kept her tickets clutched hard in her gloved hands, making sure no one pilfered them. Although she had a feeling that her father meant something very different when he was warning her against travelling alone, she still guarded against theft. Better safe than sorry. That was her family s motto. Margie kept her drinking to one glass an evening. She kept all her things close to her. She made sure never to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tiny glow of a lighter illuminated an unfamiliar face. The face was male and looked unhappy; perhaps a cook or busboy. Margie finally relaxed enough to set down her glass on the bar, laughing at herself for being afraid of the dark. What a goose she was! No matter; at least she didn t scream. The same thing couldn t be said for the hostesses. Blinded by the sudden return of the lighting, it took Margie s eyes a few seconds to readjust. The hostesses were holding each other s wrists, looking around with their eyes a little too wide. They laughed after a moment, releasing each other and giggling like fools. The handsome waiter stumbled into the room, blinking away the darkness. Is everyone alright? he asked, his accent making the words nearly unintelligible. But Margie couldn t hear him. She was staring at one of the booths to the left of her barstool. One of the stragglers in the restaurant had his head pressed against the lacquered wood of his booth s table, like he was sleeping. The long fingers of his hand were still wrapped around the stem of his wine glass. An ever expanding puddle of blood spread across the table, sliding across the wood to drip to the luxurious carpet. Margie screamed, her voice shaking the crystals in the chandelier. By the time the police showed up, Margie had managed to gather herself together enough to get up off of the tiled floor where she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the Declaration of Independence that we know today was enforced, several revisions to the document were made. One of the causes of these revisions that eventually was absent from the Declaration of Independence was the mention of the abolition of slavery. Politicians of the time period debated this key issue, as politicians differed between whether slavery should continue to exist in the nation. The Declaration promised life, liberty and property to all those who lived in the United States, however politicians knew that plantations and the agriculture business would not thrive without a source of cheap labor. During the late part of the eighteenth century as well as early part of the nineteenth century, the United States drastically grew geographically. Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio were all admitted into the union between 1791 1803. However, the rapid geographical growth was largely in part to the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between the United States and France, a deal in which the U.S. acquired 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi. In 1787 slavery was barred in the Northwest Territory however, whether slavery would exist in the states acquired through the Louisiana Purchase had not yet been decided. When Missouri, ... • 5. Ethical And Ethical Theories Of Ethics Ethical Analogy Opinions lead our society. Everyone is entitled to their reasoning and how strongly they feel that their approach to life is the right way. Moral beliefs are the stone foundation behind the way people think and their ethics. Look at morals as code of conduct. Each society has its own moral beliefs but come to an understanding that everyone s entitled is clear. It s a rule that s not writing as a law but more so the common way. The act of a person behavior all falls into their ethical belief. Different people causes for different responds to a situation. Furthermore ethics is a way to solidify the difference between good, bad or wrong and right. Morally and ethically there is a wrong and right way to every issues we face however, no one can truly say what is right the proper behavioral response due to emotions that move us. One approach used to helping with ethics is Utilitarism. It is described as the means to an end. Created by John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham, this theory tries to answer moral questions with emotion of one and religion. The outcome is for the greater good of all or the most people. It s the idea of putting other before you. The moral good is defined as the greatest happiness for the most amounts and the immoral would be the less good for the least amount. • 6. Magnificent Seven Satire Western and cowboy movies are two of the oldest types of movie genres ever made. People have long had a fascination with the wild west and its lawlessness and often like to revisit it by watching these kinds of movies. So many have been made that at times it might feel like nothing new can be added to these stories and an attempt to do so is just revisiting old hat. The Magnificent Seven makes an attempt at not only adding to the lineage of western movies but also retells a story of a movie considered by some to be a classic. The Magnificent Seven might not live up to the original movie in the minds of movie critics and typical western movie fans. To the nontypical western fan that did not see the original it can still hit all the right notes of action, slight comedy, and violence to keep their interest. Add to that fact we end up watching a truly diverse group of misfit cowboy grow together to become heroes for a small western town. The total package is enough for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Magnificent Seven does its share to keep up that trend. Basically, the movie spends the whole time building up to the climatic and the epic fight between Chisolm, and Bogue. The fight does not disappoint in any way, shape or form either. It can feel a tad bit too violent, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Aside from the final fight scene, there are plenty of other action packed, and violent scenes to keep you interested like appetizers before the big feast. You could include the early scene where one of Rose Creek is brutally killed by one of Bogue s henchmen with a tomahawk. It s a scene that sets the tone for the violence that is to come. This movie isn t as much about the depth of its story as it is about action and straddling the line of too much violence. It might be best described as one movie critic for Rolling Stone writes It s two hours of hardcore, shoot em up pow and it s entertaining as hell. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The increase is not huge, but the margin is pretty good, and it reflects that the company keeps the cost under control. On the other hand, the Gross Profit Margin for David Jones has decreased from 39.73% in 2010 to 39.11% in 2011. This decrease is not very huge, but the overall figure reflects not a very profitable condition. These margins are well below the profitability of Premier Investments. This means that David Jones has a relatively poor cost control. Net Profit Margin The Net Profit Margin is a more refined measure of profitability. Human interaction during the Industrial Revolution spanning from the nineteenth and twentieth century has several contrasting principles. In the nineteenth century, the excuse of overconsumption was for industrial economic profit. Humans believed that over using natural resource was acceptable due to the belief that natural resources were God s gift to man, and God would replenish the natural goods. However, the overuse of natural goods results in smog, pollution, and water contamination which has various damaging health effects. In the 20th century, humans were more than aware of the effects that over consumption produced, but neglected the environment for their own social status and profit. Nevertheless, during the end of the 20th century, scientific evidence led to widespread awareness of the effects occurring to the environment, prompting people to make policies to change and protect the environment. This was the first revolution where a king was dismounted without any bloodshed (Israel, pg. 432 40). As the Glorious Revolution ended, England was forced into an immediate conflict with Louis XIV of France. James II, a Catholic king, had been disposed of, and a Protestant king, William, husband of Mary, James s daughter, had taken over. Louis and James were able to get along but William and Louis were not. They began a war over what is now present day Belgium. Belgium was a key place for fortresses and harbors (Kissinger, pg.71). Though the revolution itself may have been bloodless, it caused much unrest in England. Old stresses between the King and Parliament, Church and Dissent, appeared to be undiminished and were joined by bitter divisions over the succession of William III and Mary II. This involved rebellion and war in Ireland and Scotland, and plots, riots, and insurrection in England (Hoppit, pg. 2). Before getting to that point, we must first discuss the events that led to increasing tensions between the United States and Britain. One of the difficulties that led to the War of 1812 was because of the failure of economic sanctions. In 1810, congress had replaced the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s Bill No. 2 in hopes of creating easier trading throughout the nations. Through this time, and with the replacement of the Nonintercourse Act with Macon s Bill No. 2, Napoleon had promised to withdraw decrees against U.S. shipping on the condition that if Britain should not follow suit, Madison would have to force Britain to respect U.S. rights. Unfortunately, French seizures of U.S. ships continued and by the time Napoleon s requests were clear, he had worsened Anglo American tensions. In November of 1810, Madison had reimposed Nonintercourse against Britain which only caused the two nations to have more conflicts. Another difficulty leading to the decision of war in 1812 was due to the frontier and Indian resistance. Madison was also pushed toward a war against Britain because of mounting frustrations in the South and West. Farm prices plunged when Jefferson s embargo shut off exports, but stayed low after the embargo was lifted. Between class ability grouping is essentially leveled groups (high, medium, low) across the grade level and is also known as cluster grouping. Each group is assigned to a particular classroom based on their academic ability or prior performance (gifted, special needs, and language learners). Within class ability grouping is the assignment of students to groups within each classroom based on interest, skill, ability, and various other factors (Mathews, 2013, p. 82). Within class ... They describe that overall the advantages of ability grouping outweigh the disadvantages of reduced overall instructional time and unsupervised seatwork (Hallinan and Sorenson, 1987, p. 63). However, Hallinan and Sorenson (1987) point out that many studies show that ability grouping favors students in the high group and disadvantages those who are in the lowest group. This is because high ability groups are characterized by students who have a positive attitude towards learning and who are highly motivated; while, students in the lowest group are those who are easily distracted and have more behavior problems. If the teacher is spending the group s instructional time on discipline and redirecting, the group has a smaller amount of instructional time and as a result the amount of learning taking place is ... It will feature the events that unfold after the spacecraft comes into contact with a hypervelocity star (HVS). An HVS is defined as a star that is traveling faster than the escape velocity of the galaxy. In addition, the spacecraft will use a quantum vacuum plasma thruster (Q thruster) as its propulsion system as described by Dr. Harold White s research at NASA. As humans reach out further into space, the realities associated with astronomical dangers emerge. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Van Allen belts consist of an inner and more concentrated belt of protons at a distance of 3,600 km and an outer and less concentrated belt of electrons at a distance of 10,000 km~cite{wilson}. In the most intense regions of the inner belt, exposure can be lethal after a few tens of hours~cite{smart}. This created uncertainty at NASA for whether or not humans could ever travel to the Moon and beyond. In response, the scientist who discovered the Van Allen belts, James Van Allen, proposed a controversial method of removing the trapped radiation. He suggested that a nuclear detonation in space might cause the trapped protons to escape from the Earth s magnetic field. The theory was never directly tested, but a similar test that detonated a 1.4 megaton bomb in the atmosphere showed that in fact more radiation was added as a result~cite{popsci}. The second source of space radiation is called a Solar Particle Event or SPE. This type of radiation originates from solar ejections of charged particles, usually as X rays~cite{nasa}. The cause of an SPE is generally attributed to a loss of ideal MHD (magnetohydrodynamics) or stability within the Sun s atmosphere~cite{forbes}. Although SPE s can eject over a billion tons of matter into space, the Earths magnetosphere can deflect most of the charged particles. Outside of the Earths magnetosphere, though, the dosage of an SPE can be lethal in a matter of hours~cite{nasa, smart}. In 1972, when Apollo 17 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conflict is a battle, fight, or struggle, and there are many ways that humans can respond to it. However, the most effective way to respond is by compromising. Throughout history, compromise has saved so many lives, and has kept peaceful relations between people. Even though war is a terrible thing, there are times when it is necessary to effectively settle disputes, as shown by Elie Wiesel, who survived a concentration camp, and Winston Churchill, who was struggling to defeat Nazi Germany. Veterans often needed long term care owing to the physical and psychological impact of war. Especially in the Vietnam War, since the soldiers were constantly being attacked, but couldn t see their enemy. This messed with their minds, and the ones still alive today have never been the same since they got back from Vietnam. War not only has negative effects on soldiers, but also on the townspeople who live near war. The Science Museum also writes, Civilians, particularly children, can also suffer the effects of trauma. Civilians don t only have the constant fear of the war getting too close to them, but also the fear of bombs and harmful chemicals. Again, in the Vietnam War, US forces used a chemical called agent orange to destroy the foliage of forests so they could see their enemy better. This, though, has had a long term effect on everyone who was exposed to the chemical by giving them radiation poisoning, or in some cases, cancer. Also in the Vietnam War, the US dropped bombs on North Vietnam, and hit many houses, villages, and fields where the civilians grew their food. Many people died who weren t even part of the war. It can be very hard for countries to regain their strength and money once a long war is finished. Take Germany, for example. After WW1, Germany s economy was very unstable, so the US gave them reparation loans to rebuilt it.
