• Psychoactive drugs are a chemicals that
changes brain function also alters perception,
Mood,Thinking and Behavior.
• Induce an altared state of consciousness.

Types of psychoactive drugs
• There are 4 main groups of psychoactive
drugs.
nStimulants("Uppers")
nDepressants ("Downers")

Stimulants
• Drugs that are speed up or arousal function of
the brain and body.
• Include; Cocaine, Caffeine, nicotine,and
Amphetamines.
• Large amount of Stimulants can cause physical
effects such as heart, blood vessels, and
seizure problems.
• Also large doses can Cause mental and
emotional effects such as extreme
nervousness, anxiety, and anger.
Cocaine
• White powder Stimulant derived from leaves
of the coca plants.
• Rapidly acting powerful Stimulant.
• Regular use can cause depression, weight
loss,physiological dependence,tissue damage
in nose and cardiac problems ( increase
chance of heart attack).
• Possibility of being infected with HIV.
• Cocaine can cause psychosis.
Caffeine
• Caffeine found in coffee, tea and Chocolate.
• Most people use caffeine in some everyday...it
considered the most popular and widely used
psychoactive drug.
• Increases attentiveness and improves mood
• It is physically addictive
¡Individuals can experience withdrawal
symptoms if stop intake (usually from afew
days up to week will have headaches,be
irritable, drowsy or be tired.

increase heart rate, decrease appetite and

Nicotine
• Nicotine found tobacco leaves, is one of the most
common Stimulant.
Amphetamines
• Amphetamines are stimulant drugs that have
an effect similar to that of the sympathetic
Nervous system.
• Some people use Amphetamines illegally to
stay awake and alert to improve athletic
performance or to lose weight.
• Physiological and psychological dependence
may occur.
• Tolerance to Amphetamines easily developed.
Depressants
• Depressants or Sedatives are drugs tend to slow
down functioning of the central nervous system.
• They can slow down heart rate,breathing
rate,and reduces blood pressure.

• The discomfort and distress that follow when
person who is dependent on drug discontinues
the use of the drug.
