PUBLIC SPEAKING:
SPEECH PLANNING
Mrs. Mundy
We are all planners.
We just don’t do it in the same
way.
You have to find a
system that works for
you.
Some methods.
Planning a Speech
Sometimes we write everything
down.
 Word for word.
 Read it aloud to memorize it.
Sometimes we storyboard.
 Brainstorm on Post-
It Notes
 Move them around
into an order that
makes sense.
 See more here.
Sometimes we use speech
notes.
 Index cards work
well.
 One main idea per
card.
 Employ keywords.
 Write largely.
 Lots of white space.
 Use color.
 Number your cards.
 More detail here.
Sometimes we outline.
 Example
Similar to cue cards, only on
sheets of paper.
Sometime we use technology
tools.
 PowerPoint outlines.
Sometimes we rehearse.
Sometimes we memorize.
Sometimes we wing it. On
purpose.
Live news. Impromptu Speeches
Many times we do it all. We combine these
techniques to feel and be prepared.
Preparation builds confidence.
Confidence makes fear
disappear.
