Proposal
By Natasha Waterhouse
Main Product
My main product will be a music video. The
song I will be using is written by my friend
Lauren Lane and will be sung by her. The video
will feature her and my friend Ryan Taylor as he
will be acting as the boy she is singing about.
The song is about how she doesn’t like this boy
anymore but she still misses him and she is
confused by her feelings and the music video
will reflect this.
Subsidiary Products
In addition to my music video I will be creating a
digipak. It will contain a copy produced in
collaboration with the performer. The digipak will
also contain photos with the performer and the
location, lyrics, and a thank you message. I will
also be creating a magazine advert for the release
of the album.
Research
I have done an analysis on a few music videos
that I want mine to look like. I specifically
analysed “Beauty and a Beat” by Justin Bieber
featuring Nicki Minaj as it was written, directed
and shot by himself. I also carefully analysed
Taylor Swift as many of her songs are about
relationships and love and heartbreak which is
what mine contains.
What Have I Learnt?
I’ve learnt that the type of music video that I
wish mine to look like cuts to the rhythm of the
music. It also contains many close ups, extreme
close ups and mid shots of the performer, and it
also contains extreme long shots of the location
and surroundings. From analysing other music
videos I now know what I want my music video
to look like and how to reflect the song within
the performance of the performer.
Ideas / Words / Images
I’ve decided not to use words in my music video
as it would not combine correctly with the song
and the performer. The song is about how she
still misses this boy but doesn’t want to be with
him and therefore is confused so I am going to
try and reflect the lyrics using my skills. In the
next few slides it will contain screen shots from
other music videos which I wish mine to look
like.
Target Audiences / Focus Groups
The song will be classed as “mainstream” but
will also link into the indie / folk / acoustic
genre. My target audience will be for young
adults or for people who are interested in this
particular genre or who can relate to the meaning
behind the lyrics.
Locations
Most of my music video will be shot in woods /
fields / open grass area, I chose this as it will
hopefully reflect freedom. Part of the video will
also be shot in socialising areas such as a high
street as I wish to contain flashbacks of them
two, and it will be filmed as a documentary that
they have filmed themselves. Another location
will be in front of a fire, but this is also part of
the flashback.
Castings
I will have two main actors in my video which
will be Lauren Lane, the singer, and then Ryan
Taylor, the main actor. However, in scenes such
as in a high street it will contain passers-by.
Equipment / Skills
The only equipment I will need is a still camera
for the photo shoot and a video camera and
tripod to shoot my video. However, I will need
key skills in editing, camera work and the
software in order to make my music video look
professional and to the highest standard it can be.
What Would Make You Happy
I would like my music video to look as though a
professional has created it, and that it is within
the same standards as the music videos shown on
TV and on the internet.
