A team of nurses at an adult acute medicine unit conducted a quality improvement project to better manage patient comfort and pain by developing a Comfort Menu listing non-pharmacological pain management options. They provided education to nurses on pain management best practices and evaluated nurse perceptions about pain. The team measured the success of the Comfort Menu by patient survey responses about pain control and hopes to see an improved Press Ganey score over 5%. Preliminary results found high patient usage and satisfaction with the Comfort Menu as well as improved patient responses about being included in their pain management plan and needs being met.
