COURSE / WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE
To provide Shipyard Project Managers and Shipyard personnel
with project management tools for planning and controlling
projects, using recognized project management standards applied
on ship repair industry. Through this course learning experience
will be improved by practicing concepts through a real-world ship
repair project.

• Module 0. Project Management Standards and overview (1 hour): Definition of Project
Management. Project Management Standards, Knowledge Areas and Process groups. Project Management
in Shipyard industry overview.
• Module 1. WBS for Ship Repair Projects – (4 hours): What is a WBS?. Components of a WBS. Steps to
create a WBS for a ship repair project. WBS top 4 Benefits in Ship Repair industry. WBS Manual exercise.
Create the WBS for project QUEEN ANDREA using a WBS software.
• Module 2. Critical Path / Ms Project for Ship Repair Projects – (4 to 5 hours): Basic concepts for
project scheduling. What is critical path? How to use it in Ship Repair Projects. Critical path Top 5 benefits.
Aspects on which the Ship Repair Project Manager should focus in project scheduling. Critical Path Exercise.
Steps to Create a project schedule in Ms Project. How to monitor the schedule in Ms Project. Schedule
Accuracy level in ship repair projects based on uncertainty. Create the project schedule for project QUEEN
ANDREA using Ms Project.

• Module 3. Time and Cost Control with EVM Ship Repair Projects – (4 to 5 hours): What is EVM?.
EVM formulas (Variance, KPIs and Forecast). How to use EVM in Ship Repair Projects to control cost and time
(calculations and reports). Relationship between the WBS, Project Schedule (Ms Project) and EVM. Use EVM
calculations and reports for the project QUEEN ANDREA.
• Module 4. Risk Management in Ship Repair Projects – (4 hours): What is Risk Management?. Steps
for risk management in ship repair projects. Understanding the Risk Register and Risk Assessment Matrix for
Ship Repair Projects. Apply Risk Management for project QUEEN ANDREA.
• Module 5. Stakeholders Management in Ship Repair Projects – (4 hours): What is Stakeholder
Management?. Identify and analyze ship repair stakeholders. Manage ship repair stakeholders engagement.
Identify and analyze stakeholders for project QUEEN ANDREA.

• Module 6. Ship Repair Project Manager Soft Skills (1 to 2 hours): The 3 propeller blades of knowledge
for the Ship Repair Project Manager. Recognized Project Management Certifications. Coordination skills.
Overview on negotiation skills.
• Module 7. Multi-Projects (Program) Control using Ms-Project and EVM (3 to 4 hours): What is
Multi-Project / Program Management in the ship repair industry. Planning the Program. Controlling the
Program. The benefits of controlling the program. Then need of a Program or Project Management Manager
in the ship repair industry. Practical exercise using Ms Project and EVM

1. Identify Risks: Once the scope is known a risk identification can be performed. Risk can be identified during
project initiation till the end.
This are the most important aspects to consider when you are identifying Risk and Causes:
• The Risks must be identified based on the Project Objectives
• The Risks cannot be a constraint (a constraint is something that already exists and should be responded with
a contingency plan)
• When the risk is going to be identified you should ask yourself: What can go wrong that can impact the
project objectives?
• The cause of the risk could be a constraint, an assumption, requirement or condition that originates the
unwanted or wished event.
Example 1: Lack of man power, due to interference with other projects, impacting undocking date and departure
date.
Example 2: To not finish Hull blasting on planned date, due to extreme weather conditions on April, impacting
dry-docking time of the vessel
