Introduction Investigate the deceiving process of how Ohio school districts determine which schools are worthy of the “Blue Ribbon” award, accompanied by an excellent rating for an academic school year.
Problem The process of awarding a school with an Excellent rating or being named a Blue Ribbon School.   The Process (Monfort Heights Elementary): Choose 8 African American students who should pass OAA (Ohio Achievement Assessment) Choose 10 Economically Disadvantaged students who should pass OAA Each passing student earns points for the school School with the most points receives an Excellent rating

“Schools are responsible for ensuring that all students, including students with disabilities and students identified as English language learners, acquire the knowledge and skills expected at each grade level. Therefore, all students take the statewide Achievement Assessments. “Process is not reflective of the group Pressures biracial students to register as African American Does not measure school’s ability to function properly Are these schools really excellent?
