Introduction
For professional development, I need to use evidence to analyse and incorporate the
experiences so that I can form an instructive part for my future practice and work.
Professional growth and development is strongly encouraged. So it is advised to become
involved with professional associations (Boyle, 2013, p.12). I should participate in
professional conferences. Involvement and attending in conferences, helps to develop in
professional skills as well as forming and maintaining professional relationship with
colleagues. Placement can put me at a distinct advantage when applying for future
employment.
Effective interpersonal relationships and team working
To live a challenging and successful life and enjoy pleasant relationship with people around
me is very useful. The life of the person is always connected with other and the relation with
the other person it depends on how I deal and treat them (Branham, 2012, p.25). While
dealing with people is dependent with many factors that influence the terms that includes
communication skills, the way I deal and interact with others.
Interpersonal relationship is important to live happy successful living in society. In every step
of life interpersonal skills are experienced and notified and those who have good
interpersonal skills are always successful in both professional and personal living. The
relation of the person with the other people around me is known as interpersonal
relation.Good interpersonal relationship and qualities are very necessary for living a
comfortable life with good social relations (Mayer, 2013, p.12). None born with social skills.
Everyone has to learn, observe and the way of dealing with the people. It is only basic place
from where people can learn with proper etiquettes, how to deal with people and the social
norms. “When a person enters the professional life” the social skills and interpersonal skills
of a person are experienced.
There are basic principles of interpersonal skills in team working:
Mutual Benefit Principle:
A strong interpersonal skill develops when people share same interest with others. This helps
them to form strong bonding and meet the social need for themselves and those are connected
and related with each other (Miller, 2014, p.15). A healthy interpersonal relationship brings
4
happiness to the people. To have a pleasant relationship both have to show a friendly
affection with acceptance towards others. This makes a good result when both parties share
and understand each other properly.
Credit Principle:
To make a relation with the people make it very important to make people feel that I am
useful (Boon, 2015, p.344). When people are treated this way, they value more important by
maintaining interpersonal relationship. There should be a mutual understanding and can be
understood through common honesty and good intention for each other. Such feelings will
grow good emotions and make the relation stronger, it does not matter what type of relation it
is.
Respect Principle:
When someone has to deal with the people generally there is always a presence of different
views. This keeps the environment safe, friendly, and healthy and everyone has an open-
mindedness to accept and hear other point of views (Kadiresan, 2012, p.60). Everyone has
right to speech and everyone has a right to share his or her thoughts. By tolerance and
respect, one can maintain good interpersonal relationships.
Tolerance Principle:
It means person does not care for the minor issues and keeping aside other disturbing issues
one can work together for a common goal and can negotiate the issues separately without
spoiling the environment and the others (Kim, 2012, p.257). Everyone has a different frame
of mind, which brings a different view, through tolerance that one can only deal with such
situations. If someone has shown harsh behaviour and hurts me then there are two things to
do, first give a complaint or plan revenge or try to forget the same
Process and Skills
Organizational skills are also required in organization to work effectively. Effective
employees get exciting projects, wins over clients, and well respected by their colleagues.
However, how can I become more effective, I should make sure that I should not miss out the
opportunities and be on focus.
5
To enhance my skills there are certain steps to identify:
Identify priorities
If someone asked me what is my job truly about, one of the most crucial steps in becoming
fully effective is to know the purpose at work. To identify the job’s true purpose and what I
need to achieve in my current position. This will help me to uncover the most important
objectives, so that I can start the job on priority basis.
Adopt a Good Attitude
People with a good attitude can take the initiative whenever they can. A good attitude at work
will do more than just earning respect for me. Setting a standard in my work and my
behaviour will gain my confidence level (Lewis, 2012p.23). The admirable mannerism is
very hard to find in an organization. However, demonstrating ethical decision-making and
integrity could open many doors for my future. So I should focus on adopting a good attitude
in my work and make positive decisions.
Build Essential Skills
One of the best ways of becoming more effective at work is to manage the time more
efficiently. The key areas include how to manage stress, improving my communication skills
and I can take proper decision in my career development. These will give an impact on my
effectiveness on my work.
Communication Skills
I can spend all day communicating with the people around us. This is why good
communication skills are very essential, especially when my goal is to work effectively.
Developing should start by active listening skills. That means I should understand what other
people are saying to me. Most important thing is I should not get distracted to what others are
saying and what is going around me and miscommunication can be avoided simply by
listening actively.
Strengths and areas for development
6
To succeed in life I have to extend my ability to some extent. Similarly I will go through the
problems, which I know, and what are my weaknesses. If I manage those weaknesses, it does
not matter what work I do.
SWOT analysis ia very useful method for understanding my strengths, weakness and the
threats which may face.
Strengths:
What advantages do I have that other doesn’t?
What better I can do than anyone?
What personal resources I can access?
What are the achievements I am most proud off?
Weaknesses:
What tasks do I usually avoid because I don’t feel confident doing them?
What are the people around me I see as my weakness?
Am I confidently confident in my education and skills?
Opportunities:
What new technology can help me?
Is industry growing? If so how I can take the advantage of the current market?
Once it is filled out the requirements there are two ways to analyze the information and build
a strategy. Matching means connecting two categories to decide a course of action. Matching
strengths to opportunities shows where to be aggressive and take action. On the other hand
matching weakness to threats, which exposes those areas one should work on, or situation to
avoid and it let know where to be more defensive in the position.
