Some of the new TV programs and feature films have adopted the key elements of YouTube aesthetics, including the found dotage device and hand – held camera work to influence the viewers of the authenticity of a viewpoint of character or of narrative (Snickars & Vonderau,2009). The following paper compares and contrasts the three recent feature films and TV programs, including 127 Hours, Paranormal Activity 3, and Blue Valentine. & Strange, 2011). The impact of YouTube can be seen in some recent TV programs and feature
films. Some of the new TV programs and feature films have adopted the key elements of
YouTube aesthetics, including the found dotage device and hand – held camera work to
influence the viewers of the authenticity of a viewpoint of character or of narrative (Snickars &
Vonderau,2009).
The following paper compares and contrasts the three recent feature films and TV programs,
including 127 Hours, Paranormal Activity 3, and Blue Valentine. Each of these movies utilized
the same element of YouTube aesthetics that is hand held camera work.
Discussion
The three chosen feature films or TV program involved the constant movements of the character
within certain scenes, thus the hand – held camera technique was the best available option at
those instances. Where the movie 127 Hours revolved on a single character with his hand stuck
under a rock, the hand – held camera technique helped in taking some influencing shots with the
consistent changes in the camera angles.
As within the hand – held camera work it is much easier to take random but clear shots, the same
was used within the Paranormal Activity 3. Paranormal Activity was a horror movie and thus
required a greater freedom of movements while filming the scenes. The hand – held camera work
was the best option as within the same, the camera is held in the hands of camera operator and is
conveniently sized.
Blue Valentine was a TV Program that also utilized the same technique to make the scenes much
more appealing. The fast pace movement of camera and inconsistent balance of light and visuals
gave some of the scenes a real life touch.
Thus, it is evident that rather it be a short movie or long TV programs, people associated with the
same are attempting to recognize the taste of public and the ways through which the people can

be offered with the real – life visuals and experiences (Lovink & Somers Miles, 2011). Other key
advantages that led the concerned movies and TV program to use the hand – held camera work
include lower costs, string effects, surprise element, and faster movements (Burgess, 2009). Each
of the chosen subject represented the different genre and had different concepts, but the use of
hand - held camera work efficiently refined the whole experience. Where 127 Hours used one of
the element of YouTube Aesthetics to make the viewer feel as if he / she are there with the
protagonist, Blue Valentine and Paranormal Activity 3 primarily used the same to enhance the
level of surprise elements.
Conclusion
The comparison in between the visuals and picturization of each of the chosen feature films and
TV program cleared the fact that the traditional media is strongly influenced by the social media
like YouTube to a greater extent. Hand – held camera work is just one of the many elements of
YouTube aesthetics like Found Footage to influence the viewers of the authenticity of a
viewpoint of character or of narrative.
