I designed this presentation (through the aid of a heavily tweaked template) to create an interactive introduction to professional communication for university level students.
The motivation behind many of my slides comes from Dale Carnegie's classic, "How To Win Friends and Influence People."
The presentation has also been adapted for university staff, meaning that it can be tailored to a variety of contexts.

If you knew you were going to miss a
class and wanted to alert your
professor, how might you write that
email? What about if you missed a
class and wanted to request an
extension on an assignment?
If you were requesting an appointment
to meet with a professor, an academic
advisor, a career counselor, or some
other academic support office, how
would you request this meeting? What
information would you be sure to
include?
If you were applying for a position that
required a recommendation letter or
letter of reference, how might you write
that email? To make it more realistic,
choose a professor whom you would
prefer to write this letter for you and
address it to them directly.
